Hard to know what to do next... While I may be new to this genre of games, I have played enough to know what is good and I've of course played computer games in general for 30 years. I love the story and how it is presented. It's interesting and has enough content to keep me focused and know what the general idea is. However, the problem is that the game often leaves you wondering where to go next and what to do to move the story/game forward. I found this to be frustrating enough to come and write a review about it. I am very surprised to find 52 reviews that don't mention this flaw.. so may be it is just me.. but I do need some directional information on what to do next when I find a new clue rather than stumbling almost blindly around until I accidentally come across something to do. Still would recommend the game for its production values and decently challenging puzzles. February 16, 2013
Spooky Enough To Play, But Not As Great As Its Fellow Games Let's just say Dire Grove overall proved spooky enough to play, but not as great as its fellow games. Purely because of its ending conclusion with the banshee. Play to find out why... January 3, 2013
In the minority. Most reviewers here seem to love this game. I found it almost painfully boring. Graphics are very good in the CE edition but sound was very choppy, music irritating, plot line disconnected. Hated all the jumping back and forth, found it hard to navigate from one scene to another, My rating is more generous than I'm feeling, given that I could have bought a couple of good games with the money I threw away on this one! I was in dire need to uninstall this game First off, I normally find that the reviews here on Big Fish are quite accurate - but this is an exception. This is one of the worst HOGs I have played here on BFG and I've played A LOT. Let's start with the good things - the graphics are exceptional. There is an achievement system and morphing objects to collect. But that's the only good. For a CE, this game falls far short. For one, the strategy guide is NOT integrated - you have to exit to the main menu to view it and it isn't that good a guide. The worst parts of the game are that you have no 'instructions' on where to go and the hint button does NOT work outside of the HO scenes. There is no map to refer too nor and explanation on the puzzles. You can check the guide for an 'idea' but you really have to guess what the puzzle is and then try to solve it. I was considering getting this game during the 2 for the price of 1 sale, but it wasn't even worth that. If you are looking for a game that's a waste of money, time and extremely frustrating - this is the game for you. I was sad to see such inaccurate reviews here. Five stars? Really? Not even close IMO. April 12, 2014
I don't get it??? I own this game and have tried to play it over and over again and get so bored with it. I don't get what everyone likes about this game. Way to many HO scenes and I just never seem to want to finish it. What is so exciting about this game. UGH November 26, 2012
NOT worth CE price OMG..after reading all the reviews I thought this would be a fantastic game. Glad I played the demo before rushing in to buy. It is obvious that people haven't played MCF 13th skull, as it is the best of all...I am going to save my money on this one. PS...there were no voice overs in the I don't know what all the hype is...
