Geared toward young girls, still fun for adults. The theme of this game is definitely girly. Flowers, fairies and unicorns abound. But the design and illustrations are nicely done and not cloying-cute, so the girly factor isn't a turn off. Most mini-games are simple (such as matching pairs of objects, simple color mixing), as they should be for the younger set, but not boringly simplistic. A few are actually rather challenging. Puzzles and tasks are straight-forward, with ample clues and not much back-and-forth looking for items. Generally, items needed for a task or puzzle are found in the same room as the puzzle. There seems to be no over-click penalty. There is no task list to refer to, but the simplicity of the tasks mean that such a list is not really missed. Gameplay hints are pretty unhelpful, as they are not contextual but simply seem to point out areas of interest (which you've probably already found yourself). November 21, 2011
Mayzy's Review- Awakening: The Dreamless Castle The Dreamless Castle is the first of the Awakening series. Imagine that you wake up and realize that you've been asleep for 100 years and not a single hair is out of place. That's when you realize that you must be a princess in a fantasy kingdom. The fairies and goblins help, too. The game follows Princess Sophia as she attempts to free herself from the castle in which she's been sleeping, with the help of her cute little Tinkerbell-esque fairy, Mira (aka 'The Hint Button') The game is gorgeous. The art is light-hearted, full of fantasy and femininity, without being utterly girly. The Awakening series, in general, is one of the most visually appealing that I've come across. If you play through all of the Awakening series (currently there are three), you will definitely note a progression in the complexity of the plot and puzzles. This first game is fairly straightforward and honestly pretty easy. Good if you just want to relax. There are not a lot of hidden object scenes and you will find a lot of adventure-type quests. Overall, this is a splendid game for a younger audience and might be a great way to introduce a daughter or niece to puzzle games. November 27, 2011
No Professor Layton, but it's definately worth playing Awakening: The Dreamless Castle is a puzzle game with a story that makes you want to know more. The characters are interesting, but nowhere near Layton's character depth, for those who have played the series. However, ATDC does not dissapoint when it comes to puzzles and brain-teasers. The Graphics are superb, while the music on the other hand is good, but it's not much variety. However, once you hear the theme you know that you are "back" in the castle. It gets a very high grade from me, I loved it and just beat it spending 5 hours. November 10, 2011
Beautiful, fanciful game One of my favorites in the genre. It's very easy, but sometimes it's fun to play easy games, especially when you feel stressed out and aren't really looking for a challenge, just want to relax and have fun. I'd say it should also be good for children as well. The art is beautiful and it is lighthearted. November 21, 2011
an objective 3 out of 5 stars, but for fun and puzzles 4 stars This is a charming little game from boomzap, what I call a filler game, an easier game to be played between harder games. It is by far the easiest in the series but I found it to be the most enjoyable. If you play the others you can see that this is the first in the series and they have progressed in length, graphics and hardness. I love the graphics and the fairytale story, it is certainly a game that you could give to your young daughter to play. I love how the puzzles were one after another but they were sadly super easy, but they were a bit different, there wasn?t a pipe or gear puzzle to be found. If you love hidden object games then this isn?t for you as they are few and far between and a different kind (thankfully!) from the normal junk pile you usually see, but they were really well done. It was short 3hrs for me and I?m not a fast player, but I didn?t feel cheated. I love at the end in the main menu how there is a mah-jong game you can play and apparently there is a further part of the story upon completing it (non vital). I don?t like the game, but I appreciate the thought of putting it in. It may appear dated compared with modern HOPAs but for a fun, different lighthearted game with loads of puzzles it?s a very good B- from me. A laid back easier, relaxing Sunday a?noon game or for your kids. March 14, 2012
Absolutely Gorgeous! GAME COMPLETED SEVERAL TIMES Story: After awakening in a mysterious castle, it?s up to you to prove yourself worthy of the legendary Light In The Dark, escape the castle and save all the kingdoms. Developer: BoomZap Release Date: Feb 2010 Extras: Game Timer, Unlimited GoblinJong, Faerie Companion I am embarrassed to admit that all four times I?ve started this game I have had to resort to the walkthrough in the beginning. Later, the game seems to make more sense . After all, the story is simple enough, the problem is getting a handle on a different style of HOs. There are only a couple of HOs with lists, yet almost everything that needs doing means looking around in the location for the ?10 map pieces? etc. And many of the items are quite difficult to find, and occasionally too small. There are by far many more puzzles, but without exception they are well within my amateur grasp. The artwork is the real reason I like the games in this series. The entire Awakening series are glorious visually. They?re just so darned pretty I could spend all day happily plodding along. Now I think about that?s pretty much what I?ve just done. And by the way,who was that mysterious goblin? February 22, 2013
good game and fun One of the better games. Just a good all around good and fun game to play. March 30, 2013
Soooo Much Fun!!! I actually purchased this game to play with my grand-daughter. However, it was so much fun, that I play it when she is not here. The storyline is full of fun and adventure, and the hidden objects are not too difficult. This is just a Fun game to play with family and friends. Not scary or creepy so the kids won't have nightmares after playing. And best of all.....You will enjoy playing it. November 27, 2011
I loved this game! The Awakening series are great, relaxing games. They are not as complicated as some games, but you will thoroughly enjoy playing this one from beginning to end. The puzzles are fun and you get to go from one beautiful scene to the next as you encounter some interesting characters. November 18, 2011
OK game for a younger crowd This game is best for teenage girls or younger. It was a bit too juvenile and "girly" for me with a few too many hearts, flowers and unicorns. The scenes are beautifully done and the story is interesting. However if you like hidden object games this is not for you. There are very few hidden object scenes. This is mostly collecting objects and solving mini puzzles. Unfortunately, the mini puzzles are not very challenging and some require no thought at all. If you are looking to chill out and not work too hard they are good for that. There are many jigsaw puzzle mini puzzles such as moving tiles to complete the picture so if you favor those you'll enjoy the number in this game. The Fairie "hints" are completely useless. The music gets a bit annoying so I turned it off about half way through the game. Overall, it's a beautiful game but does not score high on difficulty level and is too juvenile for my taste.
