Not even comparable to their other games. I thought It was terrible after having played the Red Riding Hood Sisters. Not worth paying for. November 12, 2012
I hate this game I am several hours into this game. I will likely quit. Graphics are great. Story is not interesting. It is very non linear. You have to go all over the place to find things. The HO are the worst ever. A beautiful picture, but instead of a list to find there are three boxes with shards or scraps you must find. No objects just junky pieces. I lose interest and do care if I find them or not. Use a hint and you can't believe what it claims is a piece. There are tons of these HO scenes and I don't want to see any more. On the other hand the puzzles are very clever and unique. Not many so far. Buy at your own risk. October 13, 2012
Nice FROG, but short This game is quite dark. The objects in the FROS are not easy to find. But still, I like it. The storyline is good. The puzzles are quite easy. There is a good map, showing active locations, and also a journal, summary of the story. Finding morphing objects helps recharging the hints quicker. You can play in Hard mode only after finishing the Normal mode. The game is pretty short. It took me a bit more than 1 1/2 hour to finish... But I still recommend it, as well as the other "Dark Parables". November 10, 2012
Disappointed I was looking forward to playing this game after reading all the positive reviews, but I had a different experience. Although the graphics were well done, the story was just like a hundred other stories but without the interactions with the characters to keep it interesting. There were way, way, way too many HO games which require you to find bits and pieces of an inventory object. I didn't have to look at the pics. of what I needed, I just went around the scene clicking on likely looking objects. I only needed the Hint when the pieces were too small to see. All of this HO hunting really took me out of the story. I felt no connection at all. Added to this was the fact that there was no map. I spent some frustrating time backtracking. Surprisingly, none of the objects, hiding places, etc., were magnified when you worked on one so you didn't really feel part of what was happening. I usually only comment when I've loved a game and want others to enjoy it, too. With this game, I want other gamers to save their money. I was so glad to be finished with it and sorry that I wasted two credits on it. November 1, 2012
Great Story I really like the "twisted fairy tale" aspect of the Dark Parables games. I came a little late to the series and actually played the newer ones first. Because of that, I found that this game was (understandably) lacking the polish in game mechanics and storytelling that the later games posses. However, it is still an engaging and challenging game that offers a great deal of enjoyment and entertainment. Definitely try it out! October 30, 2012
GREAT...WONDERFUL...TERRIFIC This line of games is superb. Blue tea games has done a wonderful job. The music is hauntingly beautiful. This is the first in the series and not as crisp as the sequels but still a game well worth playing. PROS: beautiful music long game play with loads to do this is a FROG (fragmented object) game great storyline The only con is some graininess in the graphics. I got use to it and was able to find what I needed to find. This entire series is worth buying and playing again and again. October 9, 2012
Beautiful and Fun Hidden Object Game! With an air of mystery and beautiful graphics, this game doesn't disappoint! As the first of the Dark Parables games, you are introduced into a world of real fairy tale princesses and godmothers with a darker twist. The game itself is pretty long and any bonus with collector's editions is worth it. Briar Rose was the first Dark Parables game I played and I fell in love with the graphics and the stories and I've played the others with just as much enthusiasm. The challenge could be a little higher, but the game is still entertaining. The ending is a good lead-in to the second game in the series. Expect to "use" each hidden object scene twice, so if you're stuck, just check the scenes you haven't visited in a while to see if they're active. Beginner or expert, this game is fun and you'll probably end up finishing it in one sitting. October 2, 2012
So boring I quit! This game was my lesson never to buy without going through the trial first. I bought it site unseen because Big Fish kept telling me I'd love it based on my other purchases, and so many people on the forums praised it. Ugh! What a dull and repetitive game! The storyline and interaction with any characters was nearly non-existent. So basically you just wander around yourself. The games are almost all HO where you search for broken pieces of an item, then go use it somewhere. Move to the next room, put together another slew of broken pieces then use the item. Do this over and over ad-nauseum and seemingly never get anywhere. And if that wasn't bad enough, the HOS aren't the least bit interesting or challenging. It's pretty much like looking for a bunch of rocks, and most are so obvious you don't even have to check the item list. Lessons learned. I now look for other game recommendations from the people who reviewed this game and hated it. And still, I won't waste money without downloading the trial first! November 10, 2012
Do not buy. Theres no afford put in the game. Visual-poor. April 9, 2013
The beginning of a different type of series I'm reviewing a bunch of diff games I've played long after buying/playing them. That being said, this is just a couple weeks after "The Final Cinderella" (or the fifth in this series# came out that I'm doing this, just so you know if I say anything comparative, lol... The graphics are....well, dark. Not blurry or grainy. They're good, for sure. One thing is for sure, Dark Parables screws with your eyes with the 'morphing objects' you find throughout the game. You don't have to have CE for this- these are SE objects. You don't even HAVE to collect them; but if you are one of the elite with extraordinary eyesight you'll feel great about yourself. The puzzles are medium. You can skip on easy...which is the only mode available in the beginning. But, play through the second time with the same name, and the hint/skip is locked completely and all puzzles are upped level wise...I think they're hard second time around, but that's me. The music is good, not overly annoying #like we know some games can be, lol# and when you get into more intense scenes it'll change. The storyline is good- you're the detective, solving the mystery of the briars. You just get whopped with something else along the way. The cutscenes are good. I might be slightly misjudging them at the moment though, after playing 4 other newer ones today. Which leads to length of game- I've played this game quite a few times, as well as the others, so know my around. It took me three or three and a half hours without skipping ahead, though, the first time. And, all Dark Parables give you the added bonus of a hint at the end of your game of what/where your going next :) May 31, 2013
