Scary, Mystic, Ghastly & Demonic!
Awsome game.
Great Quality.
Weird storyline at the start, but you begin to uncover it more and more.
A bit too challenging at some places.
Nice sound.

Good puzzles, integral story
I'm kind of tired of hidden object games and gruesome, but when I played the trial for this the story elements and the puzzles made me mentally mark this as a "buy sometime anyway".
And I'm glad I did. I felt Glasya's review said it well: storyline, humor, varied puzzles. I liked that the responses weren't negative if I did something wrong (I've had some games suggest that I'm stupid, which doesn't endear them to me).
The end had a little twist or I just didn't expect it, quite, and I liked it.

Fun and entertaining, although not perfect.
Despite being a little rough around the edges, there was something that really intrigued me about this game. After playing through the demo, I decided that I'd risk a purchase to see where it would go.
I'd have to say the thing I liked best about Nightmare Adventures: Witch's Prison is that it's not your standard Haunted Asylum game. The story goes in an unexpected direction early on and keeps you guessing all the way up to the cliffhanger ending. The story ends with quite a few questions unanswered, which I assume would be addressed in a sequel, so here's to hoping we get one.
The gameplay is your typical adventure fare tasking you to find items, solve puzzles, and uncover the story through random notes and books, but without any hidden object scenes to work through. The complexity of the puzzles vary from pretty easy (I ended up accidentally solving a few by randomly clicking on things while trying to figure out the method) to challenging, but most seemed on the easier side once I put a bit of my mind to it, although the puzzle difficulty ramps up a bit towards the end. I think my favorite aspect of the game were the riddle clues; they weren't incredibly hard to figure out, but fun to work through nonetheless. I also loved the fact that the puzzles were not explained to you and you had to figure out how they worked. Without a difficulty setting, this helped stretch the gameplay out a bit for me, especially since I refuse to use the Hint and Skip buttons unless I'm completely stuck.
Speaking of difficulty, there is one challenge level to the game, and as such, no sparkles or any visual indicators of areas of interest outside of mousing over items. This may be frustrating for the more casual player who prefers easier game settings, but the Hint button refills quickly and gives detailed clues that won't leave you guessing, and of course there's a Skip button for all of the puzzles.
As for the graphics, they aren't groundbreaking by any means and did not detract from or hurt the gameplay at all. Nothing really stood out to me in either a good or bad way, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I liked the more stylistic and cartoon-ish cut scene images which I think worked well with the story and characters (this isn't meant to be incredibly dark and scary, at least I didn't think so).
One thing that really stood out to me was the flavor text on just about every item in a room/area. Many items even offer additional comments and descriptions if you click on them more than once. This added a lot of detail to the game's surroundings as well as quite a bit of humor to Kiera's character. I wish more games would put in the effort to add more flavor text as it was a real treat here.
The game is not without its flaws, however. There is very little music played outside of the cut scenes, which isn't a horrible thing if the background sounds fit in well and help build atmosphere, but even ambient noises and sound effects are completely missing from some scenes. I found myself checking my speakers and sound volume a few times because there just wasn't any noise at all coming out of the game in some rooms. The "item find" jingle seemed out of place for this type of game and was quite annoying, but I got used to it as I played. I wasn't particularly fond of the UI either, as I found having to actively click on the X buttons to leave the Journal/Clues boxes a bit tedious and sometimes frustrating when I would try clicking outside of them to close them out, but to no avail. And, again, a few of the puzzles were just too easy to figure out, some only requiring 3 or 4 steps to solve which removed any sense of accomplishment of having worked through them.
That said, I still really enjoyed Nightmare Adventures: The Witch's Prison and feel it's worth picking up (especially if you catch it on the Daily Deal). I can't say it's the most polished adventure game I've ever played, but it does enough things right that I was able to overlook its flaws and appreciate the game for the entertaining, and often amusing, journey that it is.

did not enjoy
Puzzles had no clues at all as to what
to do. you were on your own to try
and figure out what to do with them.
Even the hints gave you nothing. Had
to skip a lot of them. No music or sound
hardly at all.

Fantastic scary game with tricky puzzles and a great ending
Absolutely loved this game!!! It is billed as a Hidden Object Game but there were no tiresome junk scenes, just lots and lots of exploring of scary environments, searching for missing parts/keys/tiles etc. in order to solve puzzles. A few of the puzzles are similar to ones I've seen before but many are quite novel. None of them are particularly hard, but some were tricky and exercised the little grey cells a bit. If you can't work out what you're meant to be doing, the HINT button provides some guidance but doesn't give you the answer. There's also a SKIP button to use if a puzzle defeats you.
The graphics are well drawn and the music is superb. I particularly enjoyed the ending. Some games end rather abruptly, as though the developers have run out of budget and ideas and are glad to finish it; this one ended with interesting and surprising cut scenes and stirring music.
It appears this game was developed by a small company, and if so, it is particularly impressive. I'll be looking for more.

Very challenging and attention holding
Like a HOS game, but no time-consuming HOs to find before you get the next object needed.
You just get on with the game, finding clues to help you with the puzzles which when cracked will unlock more areas.
You are confined to about 3 or 4 rooms / areas until all puzzles are complete, only then do you move on to the next section of the game, so you are not continually going from one end of a map to another to use the object you have just found and lose your orientation as in most HOS games.
Great thought has been to the making of this game, and I only hope they will produce more like this.
There were loads of puzzles to get your brain thinking to work them out - loads I have not come accross before.
Hints are there to help you to get started if you are really stuck.

Great game, great puzzles
The puzzles in this game are amazing, challenging and fun. The storyline was totally over the top, but it was all done with humor. Good script writing. Not having Hidden Object scenes made for a refreshing change! Just a lot of fun to play,Getting out of a scene was sometimes difficult with the cursor and getting into inventory also sometimes a problem but these were minor issues. Overall a great original game.

Can't wait for the sequel!
I got this game on sale. The opening cutscenes (more like drawings) made me a bit suspicious but it quickly became one of my faves!
The storyline is fascinating, and there are no HO scenes. I am an adventure game person, I play for the story. I tolerate HO scenes, at best. Not having them can make a game too simplistic but the devs did a good job of mixing puzzles with collecting tools so that I never felt like my tasks were handed to me.
The story line is filled in with drawings (no animation) and text. It is unimpressive but if they had limited funds I'm glad they put them where they did - into the game itself. I am grateful that there were no voice overs. Nothing annoys more than a low budget voice over.
My favorite thing about this game, the little extra something that sets it apart from the rest, is the little sarcastic comments the character makes throughout. Hilarious. Exactly the sort of thing that would be going through my mind if I were really investigating. The game tells you to click everything and you really should.

Extremely Well Done HOG--- Instant Fave
This is a puzzling, beautifully done HOG that gives the spine-tingling chills a hard-core HOG junkie like myself needs.
I literally had to cover my eyes at one point thinking something would pop-out at me.
The puzzles are extremely challenging, and there are no hidden object games, which makes this unique. Without the HOS's, this game challenges you to look for clues and notice the most minute details.
My only negative comments are that the movement/inventory takes some getting used too, and the plot is a little weak. Other then that prepare to be sucked in on an adventure that I'm desperately waiting for a sequel for!

Good spooky adventure game...
For me, there's not a worse nightmare than to be caught in an insane asylum and accused of being insane. It definitely has the creepy feel and great story and puzzles throughout. I tolerate hidden object games, but when there are adventure games that don't have them throughout, I am in HEAVEN. I just don't have the patience and it's just not that fun for me, but I will play especially if it's a good game with graphics and storyline. So when I can find a really good game without HO scenes, I enjoy them even more. I personally liked the easy navagational controls. It's easy to understand (eye-see, foot prints-walk, and hand to grab or take things). Overall, a good game play and worth the buy.
