A really good puzzle game I recently replayed this game (after the sequel came out) so thought I'd write a review. Replaying confirms that it is indeed an excellent puzzle game of the sort you have to figure out how to use the various objects you find to solve puzzles that take you forward. And these puzzles are challenging! However, there is always something which will give you a good hint -- you just have to find that something! The story is told as a kind of episodic flashback "this is what happened". From the game-play point of view this enables it to be broken up into segments, so there's none of the great amount of walking back and forth you get in other games; you have to solve the 'level' and then you move on. I really like the way that the story slowly unfolds, with many questions along the way. The only thing I thought very slightly detracted were some of the visuals. Not the scenes themselves but the portrayal of people when they are talking to each other. But highly recommended. May 10, 2013
dissappointing sometimes I wonder whether the reviews on here are genuine and not just written to get more game sales. This game started well in the cottage and cemetery but once at the asylum gates laboratory and on, I just found it more and more irritating. The story line is good and some scary scenes and ideas but so many inane puzzles slowed the story and just became tedious, I just didnt feel I was getting anywhere just repeating clicking my mouse and watching coins or eyeballs whatever spin. Watched walkthrough on you tube and also noted no dramatic ending so what is the point of this game? I didnt feel motivated to finish it so feel I completely wasted my money. April 27, 2013
Frustrating Started out liking the game, but found that the "clues" or "hints" didn't help much. Some of the tools didn't seem to work. The Hint button took forever to "reload". Got tired of going to the Walkthrough for clues. April 19, 2013
So so game It was ok game, it has some interesting moments but story wasn't so interesting to me. I recomend this game for those who love the surprising moments April 18, 2013
"Fun Hidden Object Game!" coooooooooooooooooooooooooool :))))))))))) April 18, 2013
Not at all good omg!!! This game was boring. I mean I didn't understand much about it, the hint button was no use at all. I couldn't figure out how to do anything. I'm so glad I only played the hour long version cause it really isn't worth the money to play. April 15, 2013
Great game with excellent tricky and frequent puzzles We loved this game, some of the puzzles were very challenging but do-able and the challenging aspect made the game more fun and entertaining. Story line was great and spooky in parts. You don't have to walk around endlessly and are contained within an area until completed. Very well thought out game. I bought the sequel as I enjoyed this game so much, but the sequel was neither as challenging nor enjoyable as this game. I absolutely recommend this game it's fab! More games with this level of challenge please Big Fish. March 31, 2013
Spooky in a fun way This game was great fun for me all around. There were a lot of minigames and puzzles throughout and all were challenging without being too difficult. I really enjoyed coming across the puzzles while exploring the graveyard and mausoleum because the setting was so beautiful, and it built up the suspense for when you finally get into the asylum. This is more of an adventure game, which I prefer anyway, and the hidden object scenes were not as plentiful but were balanced well with the fun minigames that were prevalent throughout. The mystery surrounding what A.R.C.A.N.E is added to the intrigue and the story is very well-written and spooky but in a fun way. It is a smart game with gorgeous graphics and comments that are frequently very funny. And there's no penalty for misclicking either! I found there was a lot to do and I had a lot of fun doing it. Much Better Than Expected I liked that this game was all adventure, with no HOS included; I don't mind HOS but these kinds of games are more challenging and more fun. Other pluses included the variety of mini-games and puzzles; the funny comments the main character makes to respond to your actions (it's much more thorough and creative than most games in this respect!); and that while you are working on a particular area, you can only search within that limited area for clues and items. It's always confusing when you can return to every area in the entire game, even when you don't need to! Negative points: There are no instructions for the mini-games and puzzles. Clicking "Hint" merely tells you the answer or part of the answer, whereas with some of them I just wanted to know what to do! Also, there is no indication of when you are finished with a particular area; I do prefer when games will tell you that you no longer need to look around in certain screens. However, these are minor complaints for a game that is far above the usual game quality in so many other respects. Definitely recommended for the adventure players who like a certain level of challenge! March 26, 2013
