Haunted Legends: The Dark Wishes Collector's Edition 3.7 5 46 46
The Threads Of Fate Roberto the Duke of Florence was to marry Lucia, and they planned on using the Philosophers Stone to grant the wishes of the citizens. But that evil little man who has ruined so many lives, is at it again and his interference may cost Lucia her life! Lucia has been accused of murdering Roberto and will be executed within hours if you aren't able to help your favorite students from the school of magic! You won't have to go it alone, the Three Fates will guide you every step of the way, Professor, the fate of the world rests upon your shoulders, you must save Roberto and Lucia, before history is rewritten forever! What beautiful hand drawn artistry this newest edition of Haunted Legends has to offer! One thing I love about this series is the abundance of areas of interest, every scene has several inventory items to find, trinkets and intricate locks that are missing pieces, you just can't become bored. Because you are a Mage, you have a Magic Staff and the Orb attached needs energy from magical threads, which is in the form of a Mini game of course! There are several Achievements to earn and Collectible Pigeons to find and visit at the Pigeonry. The Hidden Object Scenes usually require you to find several items such as fleur de lis, which then opens up the list items to find. I actually enjoyed the HOP that required you to select flowers and foliage that reveals a fragment, and you had to choose two identical fragments hidden underneath. The only complaint I have is that the scenes are repeated. The Mini Games are available in Casual or Hard, my favorite one was guiding birds to the correct spot, however they could only fly in the path they were facing, so you have to use other birds to nudge them into the correct flight path. This Collectors Edition has re-playable HOP's and Mini Games, Photos, Movies, Music, Concept Art, Wallpapers, Screensavers, Collectible Pigeons, Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! The bunny team is hopping with another good one There is one warning I like to say first. One scene is really gruesome. It's after the trial ends, so I don't want to spoil it. Just warn. Well the rabbit team did it again with another outstanding game. I am enjoying this immensely. The VO's are awesome and are done very well. The acting is superb. You will be visiting five cities on your journey. And thank goodness this team didn't go overboard with the collectibles. You have only 16 pigeons to find. So far no little animal helper. You do get a magic staff that when you see colored electricity you use your staff and do a mini H0G to collect magic into it. Story: That little evil man (the devil's right hand man) St. Germaine is at once again. Someone should hog tie that little imbecile and put him out of his misery. Starts off Roberto is writing the professor (the man you play as) a letter for help when you are interrupted by a knock at the door and in walks this sinister being and stabs and kills Roberto. Off course they blame Lucia for it. So she finishes Roberto's letter asking the professor for help and telling him they are blaming her for the death of Roberto. So he quickly packs his things and heads on out to her aid. And then you can continue on with the rest of the story from there. Graphics: To me even the rabbit team outdid themselves on this one. Absolutely gorgeous! There is quite a bit of 3D in there. Music: Very well done and adds to the spookiness factor of the game. Mini Games: All original. Seems they are made strictly for this game. I hadn't had to use the guide yet, but that's not saying I won't have to. H0GS: Nice variety. Put four symbols down to get the word list for the main item. Another was find the matching pairs, and another I had was the straight list no extra steps. They're fun. Map: Grey medallion-Lock location, Black rook-You're here, Red medallion-Scene incomplete, and Blue Medallion-Scene complete. Yes it's a jump map. Again, kudos to this team for another outstanding game. I highly recommend it. May 7, 2015
Follow the Threads of Fate to Save Roberto and Lucia Duke Roberto of Florence is about to marry his love Lucia when he gives her a fine gift, a beautiful pendant that is actually the Philosopher?s Stone in disguise. Fearing that someone will try to steal the stone he pen?s a letter to his old professor from the Venetian School for Mages, asking for his assistance. No sooner does he present his fine gift to his beloved than someone murders him and poor Lucia is arrested for his murder. Now you professor, are on a mission to save Lucia and find out the true fate of Roberto. The game has all the wonderful artwork and absolutely gorgeous graphics that we have come to expect from this developer. The sound track, complete with lip-synced voiceovers is quite good. We find the standard tools that are available in this type of game but the one that is unique to this game is the magic staff that you will use to absorb energy. Aside from your staff there is an interactive, transporter type map that does indicate the areas that have not been completed as you play the game. There are various types of interactive HOPs, and I found them to be quite enjoyable. The puzzles are extremely easy and required hardly any thought at all to complete. I should mention that this relates to the puzzles in the demo only and I do know that this developer makes its puzzles more difficult as the game progresses, so I am holding out hope for a bit more challenge later in the game. There is only one type of collectible to find in the game and not all of them are easy to find. Unfortunately, this developer does not add a lot of extra content to its games but there is the inclusion of the SG that would normally be an extra charge. However, the game seems so easy that I doubt the SG is necessary unless one is new to playing this type of game. As a final thought, although many of the glaring time period references are unbelievable, I still find that this developer always creates games that are, IMHO, very enjoyable and entertaining. HOPA games seem much easier now than they did in the past but that might only be because I have played so many of them that after a while they all seem very much the same. That being said, I love the genre and rarely find a game that I dislike, and since I find the storyline in The Dark Wishes is interesting and has a mystery that I want to solve, the game was an instant buy for me. I hope to see Roberto and Lucia reunited in the end, which is that hopeless romantic in me that longs for the happy ending. Even though I couldn?t wait for the SE and jumped right in to purchase the CE, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. May 7, 2015
A GAME WHICH WEAVES A "THREAD" OF SUSPENSE Holy Machiavelli! We travel to Florence where a set of star-crossed lovers, Lucia and Roberto, are in entrapped in the machinations of some evil scheme in a story with multiple thread winding its way around Florence. The graphics are beautiful with muted colors; there are four levels of play, the HOP scenes I encountered in the demo consisted of mini puzzles to fuel a magical orb and two scenes with silhouettes followed by a list of items to locate resulting in an inventory item. The puzzles ranged from ridiculously easy to those which had the choice of casual and hard settings. The storyline is engaging; however, with subplots which are interwoven together. This is a good offering from this dev and much better than their last game. No helpers in this game but a flock of pigeons await you to furnish your pigeon house. Well - at least they can carry "messages" for you if the internet goes down. RATING: An average CE. Decent - not stellar. Easy to maneuver. 5 star game on the lower end of 5 stars. HERE ARE THE DETAILS (AKA SPOILERS) FROM THE SHORT DEMO: In a story with multiple threads, you play the Professor of Mages trying save two of your former students, Roberto and Lucia. It seems that Lucia is being framed for the murder of her fianc, Roberto on the eve of their wedding. (I guess that is one of the 50 ways to get rid of your lover). However, is he really dead? Seemingly he has just disappeared. Going through a magical portal, you arrive in Florence on the eve of Lucias execution. Poor Lucia - What a wedding present - instead of a ring and a crowd out for a wedding feast - she gets an axe and a crowd out for her head! The Three Fates which spin the Thread of Life relating to the fate of man appear to you indicating that if Lucia is killed, the whole balance of power will be changed and not for the good. They are counting on you to locate the stolen Philosopher's Stone so that evil can be vanquished and those who are good can have their dreams come true. But that is NOT going to be easy. The creepy dwarf is back in this sequel. As he weaves his way around Florence, he is one step ahead of you. It seems his sneaky, grunting self is behind some of the mischief in this story. Also intertwined in this story is another thread concerning the Inquisitor who convinces you he is on your side. But is he? Why does he want you to help him save Lucia when he out to commit the bloody deed - or does he actually want to save Lucia? And how does the character of St. Germaine figure into this story? Somehow the story of St. Germaine has a familiar "ring" to it. Good luck in this game. All the threads of this game have my mind "spinning." LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hard, Custom Hints and Skips 5 range from seconds to 200 seconds. There is an optional ability to be penalized for misclicks GRAPHICS : Realistic, sharp imaging and nicely done. HOP SCENES: I found only 3 in the demo and some mini HOP scenes. A. Cryptic clues. As you use a magic orb to collect energy which you collect by playing mini-HOP scenes with clues to the items B. Silhouette . Find fleur de lis symbols each of which opens up a list of items to locate in the puzzle. Finding each of the items locates pieces of an inventory item. Same scene used twice in the demo LOL Press the hog's nose for "good luck" and he squeals - So cool! C. Matching. Matching items to find parts of an inventory item PUZZLES: Not many provided in the demo. There are more puzzles than HOP scenes. Some of the puzzles allow you to choose between "casual" and "hard" modes. In the demo I found only 5 puzzles. A. Create a useful item from pieces in a variation of a jigsaw puzzle B. Variations of a tile and jigsaw puzzles - theme related C. Phase of the moon puzzle - placing them in correct order - Beyond easy - pieces light up as you place them in correct locations D. Moving objects into their correct locations. EXTRA GOODIES: A. Map - Is provided as you play the game B. Strategy Guide C. Orb to help in your quest to dispel negative energy D. 18 Achievements if I counted right BUT I AM NOT CERTAIN. VERY DIFFICULT TO ASCERTAIN E. Collect different types of pigeons - they wanted to get rid of them from the city SO THEY JUST GAVE THEM TO YOU TO COLLECT! HOWEVER, THEY CAN TAKE "MESSAGES " FOR YOU. F. Usual extras - Music, Art. Wallpaper, Screen savers, Photos, Movies and more HOP puzzles May 7, 2015
The evil little man is back -- again! No matter how many times you defeat him, the evil little man keeps returning like a bad penny! This time he's stolen the Philosopher's Stone from the Three Fates, which fulfills wishes. Unfortunately, the stone is sapping his strength because he is evil, and he goes to your pupil, Mage Robert, for help. But the stone has a mind of its own, and seeks safety with Robert, who melted it into a golden bird pendant for his bride-to-be Lucia, also one of your pupils. So the evil little man - St. Germaine - "kills" Robert and makes him vanish. Lucia gets blamed for his death and is about to be executed.............and the demo ends! Did you follow all that? What a convoluted storyline! This game is filled with nice touches. You are the Professor of Magic, and you have invented a transportation portal which gets you to Florence to help save Roberto and Lucia. You also invented "magic threads" which can only be removed by a magical staff - and a simple mini-game. You meet the Fates, who provide you with background and tips once you find their Threads of Fate. The city of Florence is drawn quite well, and each scene has multiple items to find and use. There are only 10 collectible birds - pigeons, yuck! And the map is a teleporting one, but doesn't show activities currently available. There were only two HOS in the demo, both using the same scene and the same multi-part "find the flower" then find more items. Not typical of this developer. The mini-games were also pretty easy, with a few "move this part into its slot" type scenarios. Despite a few flaws, this is still an excellent game, if only for the intricate storyline. There doesn't seem to be a lot of unique CE bling, so perhaps I may wait for the SE version - or a sale! May 7, 2015
Foil the Dwarf and Save the Prince and his lovely intended. Based on both the CE and SE demos. Roberto and Lucia are to be married in Florence. But, they are in danger and have, therefore, called upon their friend, your character, a Professor and Mage, to help them. The graphics were amazing --- even with the over-use of golds and browns. Voice overs were down very well except for Lucia's voice. It reminded me of what a doll sounds like when you pull the string. Hello, my name is Lucia and I love you. NO! She doesn't REALLY say that - lmao! Sound FX were....OMGosh! Crickets, a cat meowing and a dark barking off screen ..... just amazing. Music were very unobtrusive. DEFINITELY play with the sound on. 4 modes of difficulty, including 'custom'. You are armed with the customary transportable map .... took me a bit to figure it out .... doh! A task lit, a Magic Orb which absorbs energy threads and a Magic Shield which protects precious gems. HOGs (hidden object games) -- You have to find items to put into the 'inventory list' of the HOG but the area where you put them is so black on black (shadowed) and I had a LOT of difficulty even seeing them. I initially thought - WHAT! There's nothing there!! There's also NO instruction explaining that to you. Once you place these items, the actual 'item list' shows up. Not very interactive. Mini Games: So much fun!!!! Some new. Some a bit difficult. You had a choice of playing them on 'casual' or 'hard'. CE Bling: Besides the customary wallpapers, music, replayable games, etc., there are ........................ * 14 collectible bird statues That's it. The EVIL DWARF is b-a-c-k and wreaking more havoc! I LOVE the Magic Boar! FIND HIM to experience a great smile! You have to touch ...... nah ..... it's more fun when you figure it out! I fell in love with this demo. I loved it even more when I played the 2nd demo. The storyline is amazing and all the characters really draw you in. I highly recommend it for all expertise levels. This is a DEFINITE purchase for me. Although I don't think it's very CE-worthy. Join me in interfering with the Dwarf's havoc and rescuing Roberto and Lucia and, as always .... ENJOY! June 10, 2015
Magic and Mayham This game is excellent; I have played other Haunted Legends but this is better than any of them. Graphics are good as always with Ers games; voice overs real and hint button helps you out. Add Doves, unusual puzzles and scary bits - you will not be disappointed. May 19, 2015
HAUNTED LEGENDS 6 RIPS THE EARS OFF ERS BUNNY!!! ERS and Bigfish bring another edition of the cult classic series Haunted Legends: The Dark Wishes Collector's Edition. Evil Saint Germaine returns as you play the role of the Professor. You must save two of your former students from a terrible destiny... Their names are Roberto and Lucia, and after they graduated from the Venetian University of Magic where you were their teacher, former students left Venice and travelled to Florence. There Roberto reached political success and became the Duke of Florence. In the same time Lucia advanced in magic and wizardry and finally created Philosopher?s Stone entrusted to Duke Roberto. They even invited you to their wedding, but looks like wedding will be cancelled! Lucia was found in Roberto?s house covered with blood and no sign of Roberto was found! Now she?s falsely accused of Roberto?s murder and only you can prevent her execution! You only have until Midnight before Lucia is beheaded. This installment of Haunted Legends is my favorite, yet I love and have played all of them. This point and click game is graphic, sinister, has perfect voice overs and excellent production values. I think fans will be blown away by the story...I totally loved it!!! May 8, 2015
Strange Magic The latest installment of Haunted Legends is the most satisfying since Haunted Legends: Queen of Spades. I loved the artwork, soundtrack and magical special effects. The creepy dwarf SG seeks immortality and power once again at the expense of Roberto and Lucia, university students in possession of the philosophers stone. You play their professor, who is also a mage and capable of battling evil. The only action I didn't enjoy in the game was the use of a magic staff, which takes the place of a journal or diary. You read a paragraph with a clue word in all caps and then select it from a small hidden object scene. Finding these objects charges your staff. It is not at all challenging, so I would rather go back and read details in a journal. This game is much more gore-filled than others, which lends a more dramatic air to the story. A wraith-like woman is one of the main characters to interact with. She requires you to find different colored yarn balls for her to continue opening portals to different sections of Florence, Italy. The landscape artwork is stunning! Water effects on a washed out bridge and the character's realism certainly added to the story, especially SG. I could actually see his facial hair -- his face is that close to yours! I am a fan of the traditional list hidden objects scene, and this game offers several stunning scenes, like a wild boar in a shop window who squeals when you click on his snout. Another is a drawer opening with a skull drawing. Several items are more difficult to find in this illustration. A couple of highlights for the mini games are a realistic version or rock, paper, scissors, which was fun to play with a random solution, and a game where you collect several pearls that are later placed in a crypt mural. These pearls must be used to touch several other items like in a spider web design. This one took me a while to complete. The game is not particularly long with six medium-length chapters, but the bonus chapter adds enough game play for me. Extras include: 18 replayable mini-games, 12 HOGS, 5 photos of game designers immersed in different scenes, 10 "movies" cutscenes, 3 songs, concept art, 8 wallpapers, and 4 screensavers. There are 16 pigeons hidden through the game, none in the bonus chapter. You have a pigeonry where you can click on individual birds and learn little factoids about them. This is preferable to a random collection of items. Your achievement room is a magical display of everything from a flower stem with a blue eyeball to a rug. Accolades are given for something easy like listening to all the dialogue, to finding 3 objects in 3 seconds. Really a standout game, great actors for voiceovers, artwork, music. It all came together for a magical yarn that promises to be an intriguing continuing series for ERS. May 8, 2015
