Surface: Alone in the Mist Collector's Edition 3.5 5 64 64
Happy Birthday Carol, If You Survive That Is! It's the morning of Carol Evan's sweet 16th birthday, and she's glad to see daylight, that was a horrible nightmare she had last night! But daylight isn't turning out any better that the night, everyone, her parents included, has disappeared without a trace! The town of Rocksberg is in a state of disarray, broken dishes, cars abandoned in the middle of the street, even the electrical wires are down. What happened? Where have all the adults disappeared to? Aren't you glad it isn't your 18th birthday?! Surface has done it again folks, and something tells me that Alone in the Mist has just scratched the surface of what's to come! Don't forget to collect those Red and White Flowers in each scene. Each flower you collect helps to unlock Characters in the Secret Room, and each Character will have a special favor to ask of you which sounds kinda creepy yet intriguing. There are Achievements to earn and Plus Signs on some of the inventory items indicating the need for further interaction before the item can be used such as combining that item with another inventory item. The Hidden Object Scenes are a mixture of Listed items, Silhouetted Shape finds, and even finding items that match the sentence being spoken on a tape recorder. The Mini Games range from simple puzzles where you click on icons until twin pictures are identical, to more complicated puzzles such as swapping key icons within a group of pictures until all picture images make sense. I really enjoyed the game requiring you to spell out the word POLICE, but you have to figure out the correct order to key in the numbers as they scramble to different locations with each letter entered. This Collector's Edition has Achievements, a Secret Room, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Screensavers, Collectible Red and White Flowers, Unlockable Characters, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Based on Full game HERE IS WHAT YOUR MISSING.... This demo lists what happens BEYOND THE DEMO.... AND BEYOND BONUS PLAY.. Contains spoilers................. Total gameplay for SE around 4.5 to 5hrs. Total gameplay for BONUS play took me 2 hrs. Total= around 6.5 to 7 hours for all gameplay, plus the secret room, I wasted 35 more minutes in trying to obtain enough stars for the 2nd SCREENSAVER. I never did unlock it, as you needed all the flowers and to replay the minigames & ho to collect stars for it. IF YOU WANT THAT 2ND SCREENSAVER, YOU MUST COLLECT ALL THE FLOWERS, SO GO BACK BEFORE SE ENDS! Because after the end of SE, there is no way to go back.... The "secret room" has 6 characters. Each Character asks you to re- play a ho game and a minigame. I only had enough flowers for 3 characters so I played and played until each character had 100% completion next to the stars. It wasn't enough, and it was frustrating. THE first SCREENSAVER is great though. Its of the area where the kid is in the tree in front of the orphanage, birds fly & wind whips....really cool, and the BEST thing is IT STAYS IN THE COMPUTER AFTER YOU REMOVE THE GAME!!! #Which is brilliant, because as I've mentioned before to developers.... It will be a reminder to me, EVERY time my screen sits idle....how much I loved this game and want to buy the next one....even if its a subliminal message!# SE story ends great and doesn't rely on the bonus story for completion. Either, SE or CE is a buy, buy. BONUS PLAY: Story: You meet a student named Andy who meets the Wishmaster, and the game play is the 3 different wishes Andy makes. These are the areas of gameplay in bonus according to the map. I have specified which areas are old and you are replaying an area, or new which is new gameplay. 1.New-The park, 2.Old-In amusement park 3. new- Ferris Wheel, 4. old- street 5.old- caf 6. old- parking lot 7. old- police station 8.old- park #outside orphanage again# 9.old- lobby 10.new- mysterious room 11.new- square 12.new- chessboard 13.new- way to exit HO 1 is the list type- my favorite- but with a twist; you match up 2 parts of an object. I loved it and can't believe all hop aren't designed this way! IN BONUS CONTINUE COLLECTING FLOWERS! and when nearing the end via the wtg make sure you have them all! I counted 4 ho scenes and 6 mini-games. THE FIRST MINIGAME IS A BLAST.... As you enter the park there is an 80's style video game console. This is one of the best mini-games I've played and I feel its worth the bonus play all by itself. You collect coins for this console and play an action video game with sounds etc. similar to Donkey Kong of old. WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS GAME, WOW, ADDICTING!! AND SOOOOOO FUN!!! A++++++++++ AND I THANK YOU! I have to admit, I actually liked the xtra bonus gameplay BETTER than the main game. It is worth the extra credit to go back and purchase the CE if you decide initially you only want the SE.... but remember you will be missing out!! DEAR ELEPHANT GAMES.............. First and foremost, you hear so many people complain, and you obviously put SO MUCH love, sweat and tears into these games in hopes to please us. I just wanted to take the time to let you know how great this game was-- and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a HUGE fan of SCREENSAVERS and 9 times out of 10 I will buy a game that has them. But next time....pretty please let us have all the screensavers up front #like in Grim Tales, bloody mary#. Also, we want to see BEHIND THE SCENES... so instead of the secret room or concept art.... please introduce yourselves to us, we big fishers see you as stars and want to know you! I am one that NEVER replays the ho or mini-gm in a CE because I just have way too many games I've purchased to play instead of re-doing ho & mini games I've already done....so keep in mind your target audience -- the members who buy and buy..... and I hope you will take these suggestions to heart. Also, the best storylines are the paranormal type, best I've seen is the reincarnation series, paranormal pursuit, & Mysteries of the mind-COMA... CAN YOU GIVE US MORE LIKE THAT?? I even loved the music in this game. I liked that it was a little spooky, you guys nailed it. Thank you again!! June 17, 2015
Allie is Beyond Creepy - Alone in the Mist - EXCELLENT I know there must be a time that every kid wishes their parents would just disappear but when it actually happens it is frightening. When Carol awakens on the morning of her sixteenth birthday she soon discovers that she is alone and her parents seemed to have vanished. This latest game in the Surface series comes to us from our mammoth friends who have created some really creepy games and this one is no exception as it definitely reminds me of a Grim Tales game from a few years ago ? another series from this team. The graphics are excellent and, at least on my computer, are crisp and clear. The eerie sound effects are just perfect for this game. If I was in that orphanage, Allie is certainly not a kid I would choose to buddy up with on a scavenger hunt. All I can say is that the artists have captured her to perfection. The tools in the game are basic and it seems like the interactive transporter type map is the only one we have except for a notebook. For just a brief time I thought I was going to acquire a pet helper but that turned out not to be the case as "my pet" soon left. The HOPs are varied with some having minimal interaction at times. During the demo the HOPs included a silhouette type, matching type and a standard list type. Although the first HOP seemed very cluttered, I didn?t have any difficulty spotting the items. The puzzles are very easy and minimal at best. I am hoping to find a more complicated Rube-Goldberg type puzzle later in the game since our mammoth friends are very fond of those type puzzles. Keeping my fingers crossed that the puzzles become more difficult as the game progresses. As with all the other Surface games we will collect flowers that are found in each scene. Aside from collecting flowers and the ?Secret Room? I didn?t find many extras that would make this a CE worthy game. I found the storyline to be very interesting and possibly one of the best in the Surface series. I couldn?t wait to see how the story plays out so the game was an instant purchase for me. I want to know more about Allie ? who she is and why she is the ?demon? child that she appears to be in this game. The storyline actually seems to be a departure from the other games in this series and that is okay with me; although I am wondering why this one actually turned out to be a Surface game when it would have been an excellent addition to that other series. Maybe the reason will become apparent as I play through the game. Even though I really like this game and think it is excellent you might not agree with me. At any rate, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. June 4, 2015
Calling all parents...I repeat...calling all parents! My God is this team busy! Between this team and another team, we won't be in a short supply of games, that's for sure! This game is off the hook! This team couldn't of done any better with it. The story is awesome as so is the VO's. Our little main character Carol is such a breath of fresh air and really a true delight. The mechanics in this game run very smoothly. There are no permanent animal helpers, but there is one time you have to use a dog and she leaves after. In the beta version the only 'gadget' you get is a camera that you take pics of codes, or whatever needs to be remembered. No special abilities in beta. In the game your collectibles are 60 flowers. And from what it looks like, you get little gifts from collecting them. My advice please is to look at the strategy guide for the locations of the flowers. The reason being is like in the beginning of the game if you don't get the one on the birthday card, you will miss it. You'll either have to go on with the game, or restart the game to collect it. Also click on different items in and out of H0GS to get a little background of that object or a cutscene. Story: You may be nice and cozy in your bed sleeping, but the dream you're having is a nightmare. A nightmare of an orphan girl named Allie Rice who becomes your worst nightmare in real life. Your clock reminds you it's your birthday, and you just turned sweet 16. But as your day goes on, there will nothing sweet about it. You open the present your mom and dad gave you and you go downstairs and see all the things ready for a party. The only problem is, no mom and dad. A friend of yours comes over and asks if your parents are home and you find out neither are hers or any other kids in the city. So off you go on a search for them, and when you step outside you get another surprise. And on the story goes. Graphics: Superior. Crisp and clear even in the H0GS. Beautifully done. Music: I especially love the music at the main menu in the game, and the in game music really adds to the creepiness factor. Mini Games: There was quite a few mini games and a very nice variety. I found that there was more mini games than H0GS, which I don't mind in the least. H0GS: There is a variety of H0GS, silhouettes, and others. Map: Question mark-Unexplored, Checkmark-Area complete, Exclamation Point-Task to do there, and Lock-Blocked Area. It's a jump map. All in all I am just loving this game. Interesting story and really fun to play. Kudos to this team! Superior job. June 4, 2015
A Slow Starter in the Demo but it did improve a lot.. I gave this game 5 stars because I enjoyed it and the Bonus Chapter which is different to the main game except for the WishMaster. Maybe he will come back in a sequel? For some unknown reason when the WishMaster appeared in the main game I got goose bumps! I have no idea why because he did not frighten me at all, but the little girl did. Excellent graphics, music and voiceovers. Levels 4 - Easy to Custom Length: 5 Chapters plus the Bonus Game. HOS: Exceptionally easy and no challenge at all really. Mini Games/Puzzles: Also relatively easy to do but they were interesting. Collectibles: Flowers as usual and I am not complaining. I have all the Surface games and have never once found all of the collectibles, so it?s time for me to ?grab a grandchild or two? to help me finally get into the devs Secret Room with the full collection. If you want an easy game with collectibles I would recommend this game. June 4, 2015
Are you ready to be an adult? Run, don't walk, to purchase this creepy seventh edition to a fantastic series! it is your 16th birthday, and your present seems to be the fact that all the adults in town have disappeared. Little orphan Allie, whose parents have also disappeared under mysterious circumstances, has somehow managed to gather all the adults to the orphanage, including your parents, and now they are gone! Wow, what a story line. The HOS are quite fun - each one is unique. There are lists, and silhouettes, and multi-part lists with a puzzle to assemble. My favorite had clues from a tape recorder that indicated what item in the picture was required. The mini-games are fairly easy, but fun, and fit with the theme of the game. The best part of this game is the creepy child Allie, whose appearance and haunting voice really set the theme. CE Bling includes the Secret Room, and Flowers to find that eventually let you "purchase" a person who gives you a task that lets you earn more flowers. The achievements are carnival features sitting in Allie's hair - so perhaps there is a carnival later in the game. This is a wonderful game with a good story and excellent thematic elements. I can't wait to buy it! June 4, 2015
Love it! Elephant Games is one of my favorite developers and this time they come back with another Surface game. I admit the last few Surface games haven't been so great. I was quite disappointed but this time I think they are trying harder to deliver better games. The storyline is not the most original, again, another orphanage theme. But I like how the game goes smoothly and fast with no unnecessary actions. There are lots of cutscenes so if you don't like them, you might not like this game.. I found them bearable.. the atmosphere is dark and gloomy, the setting I like, making the game creepy. The map and hint are useful, map is not really needed as the hint will transport you to places you need to go. Graphic is fine, no longer super crisp like the ones they had previously, probably that's why makin the game less heavy to play. They no longer use live actors, which is a shame, the characters look cartonnish.. I think I will purchase this game but I will wait until the SE come out :) June 6, 2015
HAPPY SWEET 16! BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! ENJOY A "MEMORABLE PARTY" PLANNED FOR YOU BY A " BLACK- EYED CHILD" BASED ON THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAME - 3 CHAPTERS - THE ACTUAL GAME GETS BETTER Happy Creepy 16th Birthday! Awakening out of a nightmare you will soon get your "dream come true" a birthday party with weird "black eyed child" - Allie Rice! This game is AN EXCELLENT CREEPSTER! I LOVE the chilling, spooky storyline. The graphics are very dark and gothic. Our black-eyed child, Allie is BEYOND CREEPY! The inventory is interactive and puzzle-like; he HOP scenes are frather well done; the puzzles are numerous and most are extremely easy - but there are a few which are moderately difficult. THE HOP SCENES AND PUZZLES GET BETTER AS YOU PLAY INTO THE ACTUAL GAME. What is the story behind creepy Allie? With her classmates terrified of her, her teacher missing, and all the adults missing as well - what birthday present awaits you from this black eyed Susan? AND WHAT IS THE FORCE THAT IS MOTIVATING ALLIE? 5 CHAPTERS PLUS A BONUS CHAPTER LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore, Customized Hints and Skips range from 15 to 90 seconds GRAPHICS: Very dark - gothic. Realistic and beautifully done as usual for this dev. EXTRAS A. Achievements? Not certain Difficult to perceive B. Map is provided at beginning of the game C. Collect 130 flowers WOW! That is quite a birthday bouquet! D. The usual bonus game, wallpaper, music, screensaver as in all games E. There is a Secret Room of collectibles INVENTORY: Interactive and puzzle-like Well done and creative HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE GAME: HOP SCENES: THERE ARE NOT SUPER HOP SCENES IN THE DEMO BUT THERE ARE IN THE ACTUAL GAME. The HOP scenes include silhouette, storybook - finding items highlighted in large letters while telling a story, standard junk piles uncovering jigsaw pieces, place items back into a storybook, and a variation of a FROG - finding fragments of items to complete a list item FAVORITE HOP SCENE: SUPER HOP SCENE in which you place silhouette items in slots which opens up a list of items to locate which gives you parts of a jigsaw puzzle for a crow opening up a box for a gift PUZZLES: Most of the puzzles are EXTREMELY EASY. THERE ARE NO SUPER PUZZLES. However, in the demo, I found a couple of moderate difficulty. Most of the puzzles were variations of matching puzzles, placing items in correct locations, coloring in letters based on a diagram, finding differences between two almost identical scenes, and a variation of a jigsaw puzzle, sewing FAVORITE PUZZLE: Letter path game. A variation of a maze puzzle. To access a computer you must enter the letters in a certain sequence which is not straightforward. A little tricky here! LEAST FAVORITE PUZZLE: Catching fireflies to put into a jar! VERY HARD TO MANEUVER! BTW - IS ALLIE RICE ANY RELATION TO ANNE RICE??? June 4, 2015
Worth buying the CE Although the last few Surface games that I've played haven't been so great. But Elephant Games is one of my favorite developers and this time they come back with another great Surface game. The map and hint are useful, map is not really needed as the hint will transport you to places you need to go. Graphics are good. June 26, 2015

All the adults have vanished. Is this a child's dream, or nightmare?
