Average Joe This is an excellent game for those of you who want a game that challenges you and makes you think about every move you make. As a matter of fact, I couldn't find a hint feature anywhere in this game so there won't be any handholding, you're on your own! Joe is a janitor for a large corporation, and no sooner does he reach level 2 security, he finds himself tangled in a web of a conspiracy. A dying man Joe comes in contact with tells him he's from the future (2012, vs. 1972) and gives him a solar powered time machine device. The is a pointandclick game so you will have to gently nudge Joe where you want him to go by pointing and clicking. If the crosshair icon turns to a circle, you can click on that item to either pick it up or investigate that area further, and Joe will tell you if something is needed in order to complete that area such as finding a key to unlock a door. There is a lot of back and forthing in this game, mostly because you missed something you didn't think was there or important enough. You will have to read or listen to the dialog to figure out what you are supposed to be doing, or just try using inventory items everywhere if you get stuck. If there seems to be nothing left to do, most likely you need to activate the time machine to travel back and forth, finding items and tasks in 2012 and using them in 1972 and vice versa. I think the game The Inner World is a much more interesting pointandclick game, but this is a game that grows on you, enjoy! September 1, 2015
Old's Cool! I really, really like this game. The artwork is simple but well done and the challenge is really good. You have to think about what you are doing instead of just clicking everywhere. Some things are intuitive and some are not. The music is fine and there are no HOGs (YAY!!!!). It is just a "simple" adventure game in the old style. It is very linear, and you cannot just "go around" an area until you complete what you need to do. I like the story line and the snarky hero (a lot of smart comments, especially when you do something "stupid".) Ha ha I don't want to give anything away here, but there is a trick to the game that makes it a little unique too. Overall, I am just having a great time. It's a little spooky and a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it too! BTW - If you are looking for the current HOG trend games with HOGs every two steps and mini-games, this may not be the one for you. But I am a little tired of those, so this was a refreshing change. August 17, 2015
My wish came true... :)...should be 7 stars! A huge tahnk you to BF for presenting a game like that. For me it is a perfect score on all aspecst of the game and I know that I will not be popular because I can see folks disliking exactly what I liked so here it goes: (After playing the demo to the end on Windows 7 with sound off) I enjoyed it so so much: I felt the pace was good, I enjoyed the fact that it was out of the ordinary, challenging me non-stop, with a sinister storyline, very atmospheric! I loved the graphics because the cartoon like character being plain and simple in their drawings made you focus better on the tasks and that clean, crisp style of drawing added also something sinister in the story where you feel you have to beat the system...loved it! The level of challenge!! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh....at long last! At last :no indication, no clues apart from the comments on the screen when you click wrongly to point you in a gentle way back to the task or where you should go next, heaven for experts...it made me think twice before wasting time to move the character between location A and B so thank you so so so much for that. Storyline: absolutely great, theme in tune with conspiracy theory, big companies having the power etc, modern storyline with a nice twist on the time travel device which helps to resolve the challenges. I have purchased it... I cannot wait until I can resume playing it, I suspect my joy won't last for hours and hours as it will probably be a "shortish" game, not sure....WOWWWWWWWW! Would suit better experts or high intermediate players August 17, 2015
Superb ! Finally a game that calls on your intellect and sets itself pleasantly apart from all those colorful, yet mindless HOG games which have flooded the casual gaming market for the last couple of years. I played the game all the way through and enjoyed it till the last minute. The game is full of suspense with a story line as a mixture of political thriller and worries about future of mankind. And still, all of this done without the shooting, fighting and killing as usually found in action thrillers. It is a quiet and thoughtful game. Sure, there will be many people out there who don't like this kind of more challenging game play but I would appreciate that their statements of facts would be correct - at least. For instance, there is not only a voice-over but also an excellence in voice acting that is hardly to be found in this genre. And there is very little on reading unless one clicks several times on a subject just to enjoy Joe's really smart and witty thoughts. And - oh yes, the character moves fast if double clicked. What A Breath Of Fresh Air - FINALLY - A Game - Completed Game GAME PLAY: Point/Click Adventure. Pure adventure. NO 360 MOVEMENT. There is no tutorial/instructions, hint/skip button, puzzles/mini games. HOS (hidden object scenes), map or journal. You find objectives (inventory) in the scenes and have to figure out how to use them to move forward in game. LOTS of back/forth (time travel) to this game. VISUAL/SOUND QUALITY: The reason some disliked this game is exactly why I liked it: This game isn't like the current releases at Big Fish. This is old school, cartoon like characters. The voices excellent. Some parts are just text reading with no voices. Can be clicked (speed up) to get through quicker. I didn't click to speed up. I read everything. I didn't want to miss anything. LEVEL OF CHALLENGE: There is no hint button as I mentioned but there are some helpful comments in the dialogue to give a nudge in the right direction. I thought the level of challenge was quite good. If you do get stuck you can do a search online the game title (The Silent Age) for a walk through. While I didn't use it but looked at it since this game is listed as a "puzzle" game which it's not. It's very well put together. Step by step instruction for each chapter. STORY LINE: While the time travel is definitely nothing new I still found this to be a breath of fresh air. This has both humor and a suspenseful plot twist to it. I really liked the charters and story. This story really had my attention. GAME LENGTH: 10 chapters. This was about 9 hours for me. Definitely long enough. May be more/less for you. FUN FACTOR: It's been almost a year since I've reviewed/purchased games. I got tired of the same old games the current offerings. I must also say I almost passed this game up since it was listed under "puzzle" genre. Something kept bringing me back to this game. I'm so glad/happy I decided to try and then purchase this gem of a game. This is my current favorite game. I would love to see more point/click pure adventure games like this one. I was hooked to this game right from the get go and played it straight through. RECOMMEND: I recommend this to those who like these old school point/click pure adventure games. If you are one looking for a game like the current offerings at Big Fish with HOS, puzzles/mini games, etc., this won't be your game. As always give it a whirl and decide for yourself. Different than anything else on Big Fish Games I played this game previously on my Kindle so decided to buy it to play on my computer for the larger screen. It's got that old-style point-and-click features that I love and the plot is actually gripping and well paced. The 1970s timeline feels authentic (yes, I was around in the 70s!) and the graphics, though simple, are well done. It makes you think and at times can be frustrating. But stay with it. If you're bored with the same old hidden object games I would give this a try as it won't be like anything you've played on here before. August 17, 2015
Retro is still alive The older folks will understand, and the young-uns will not get it. Companies have figured out that some older style games, have that wonderful nostalgic quality that makes us yearn for the days that we need not fear entering a public place. This is a game for the time that you see a red splotch and know someone got hurt, without the details of the trauma. Stop thinking inside the modern day box, and venture, for a time back to the days when computer life was simple, and much less high res. It is refreshing to play these old style games on modern computer tech.. I haven't gotten far into the game yet, so I'll leave the progress of it to those who have. But my initial experience is that I will love playing it again, and again when I need an old (fun time) nostalgia trip. Thanks for bringing this to us older folks who remember this great old time computer gaming. You younger kids, give it a try. Touch some old school fun. August 18, 2015
Brilliant -- I didn't know they still made them this good I almost can't think of enough good things to say about this game. I haven't been this engrossed in a game since ... well, the 90s at least. Riveting, moving, thought-provoking, and with enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the screen. The graphics are simple, but very effective. The puzzles are all tied to the story -- "How do I get through this locked door?" rather than the usual "This box has a key shaped like a trombone" nonsense -- and they all require a little quirk of your mind to solve, but none of them are impossible. Massively cool and intelligent, and now I want to play it again to see what I missed the first time. And the plot -- well, I guarantee I'll be thinking about it for quite a while. I'd like to say please give us more like this, but this one is unique. Please give us more that are this good! August 20, 2015
A Welcome Change! This is my first review even though I have played hundreds of games from Big Fish, because I want to balance out all the negative reviews of this game. No, it doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of the majority of games coming out at the moment, which honestly more often than not are very similar in storyline and mostly bore me to tears. This game is a breath of fresh air, a fun challenge and extremely entertaining. It might not be your cup of tea, but try it with an open mind, you just might like it! August 19, 2015
FAR OUT MAN! TRIPPING THROUGH TIME WITH AN AVERAGE JOE TO SAVE THE PLANET Let?s ?disco? back to the 1970?s America, the Nixon era, and into the deep, dark secret vaults of ?The Company.? You, as an average Joe, a maintenance man, (having just been promoted to head maintenance man) have the ability to save the world from the brink of extinction. Contacted by a wizened old scientist from 2012, you are told that rascally old ?greedsters? (in their 40?s and 50?s ? ancient fonts of wisdom) from 2012 are trying to destroy civilization. Gasp! Horror! Using a ?solar powered? time machine (so funny), you travel back-and-forth between 1972 and 2012 to save the world. ?Far out, man!? As others have stated, there are no HOP scenes, puzzles, morphing objects nor collectibles ? just some good old fashioned adventure game fun. This game contains some satirical humor throughout. It is very easy to play this game as the inventory objects needed almost jump out at you. You also have a ?time machine? button to allow you to trip the light fantastic (faster than the speed of light) between time periods. To me, the humorous aspect of the game is what I enjoyed most. Although you can jump through back-and-forth between 1972 and 2012, there is no ?jump? map within the scenes, which, to me became annoying. I played this game principally for the humor. It did tend to get a little ?draggy.? You can make your average Joe run a little faster by double clicking your mouse, however. To me, the only reason I purchased the game was for the tongue-in-cheek humor. (Oh, I also forgot to mention that I also had a golden BFG coupon which had not ?timed? out) Joe makes comments throughout the game which are hilarious. This game is satirical in reference to the two eras of the 1970?s and 2012 and, to me, adventure games as well. This game is not for everyone. However, if you have ever played an adventure game (which I love no matter how ?old school? they are) or like satirical humor, you will love this game. August 17, 2015
