Awesome .. for me anyway! Wow! What another great mid-week game, even better because I could use one of my coupons! I do love that BFG are bringing out some really good games of late inbetween their CE games ... ones we can use our coupons on and buying CE games, my list is quite long but some running out of time! I loved this game and most particularly, because not one single Hidden Object moment! Awesome! HO's are the bug-bear of my existence! I want challenging moments, challenging "where to next" moments, what and where do I find that elusive item to continue, a "did I miss something" moment and "why can't I move on" moment! No finding that needed object in a quick HO moment, naahh, in this game you have to "seek and find" it, fantastic! Love it! I thought it was going to be short and sweet given is was only just over a 200MB download but NO, it is a good, long challenging game, having to visit 4 x places, find 4 x blue crystals and each level is well thought out, items to find in unusual places, unusual puzzles and therefore, each section does take a while to complete! To boot and what did surprise me was that it has an inbuilt guide should you absolutely get stuck ... usually only found in CE games. So ... what a treasure this game is ... a real gem of an offering! Perhaps not for those who love HO moments as there are none in this game but for those, like me, who would rather take the hard and long way to solve a game, this is perfect! I did one SKIP, so frustrating in the end but the rest of the puzzles were challenging and fun, just wouldn't and didn't give up ... and a great feeling in the end to finally solve it! So loved this game ... to recap, no HO moments, purely a puzzle adventure, some easy, some medium and some quite hard, challenging puzzles/moments ... but infinite pleasure in conquering them! Well done to the DEVS .. perhaps continue and work towards a CE game with lots of puzzles/challenges and no HO moments ... now that would be a game I would buy no matter the cost! I thoroughly recommend this game to those who love these sort of challenges, would urge those who haven't tried to give it a go and as to the rest ... well you do have a 60 minute "try before you buy" option. So go for it and see what you think ... I do believe you will be pleasantly surprised and will want to challenge it all! Especially if you have a coupon or two "sitting around"! September 24, 2015
An excellent workout for The Little Grey Cells Based on the 60 minute try out. What a brilliant game. Everything needs a puzzle to solve. Inventory items are used quickly. Excellent black bar comments. The guide being always on hand is a real bonus but I'm trying very hard not to use it although I needed a hint as to where to go next. Features like this are usually only found in more expensive games. No sparkles all over the place except in the tutorial so if you like that aspect you'll be disappointed. The music is a gentle 'Egyptian snake charmer' type and fits perfectly well with the game. As for time - in my 60 minutes I got as far as solving the pyramid puzzle on the boat so with possibly more to play, plus another 4 levels I would estimate a good five hours in all. We shall see as I went straight to the BUY button!!! Thank you Big Fish for yet another opportunity to purchase a brilliantly refreshing game. October 3, 2015
A game for puzzlers 100%!! This game was just clever and innovative with its puzzles and riddles! There are like 4 big places where you go seperately to find 4 crystals for a staff to 'defeat and win the ultimate monster of all times'.The puzzles were very tricky and the Skip button with the pyramid and the godess just took too much time to load! For puzzlers it might be their favourite game, because I bet there are more than 30 puzzles and I doubt if I'm wrong The graphics were decent and liked that they pictured Egypt's landscape with all of its places and whereabouts. Also I really liked that there's no a PLAY BUTTON(LOL)there's just a map and you decide where to go.It was a pretty different way to start the game, because I always look for a BIG RED BUTTON saying ''PLAY'' and I was worried that there was no game at all! So I reccomend the game and wish the best to the dev that made it! November 7, 2015
No Stinking HOP's At last a game with puzzles ONLY. I stopped playing these games over a year ago because I got so tired of the endless, senseless, ridiculous, stupid, Hidden Object Puzzles. Even now a game that is labeled a "Puzzle" game in still riddled with this pointless, time-wasting, annoying, junk . The Blue Tea series has things to find but at least you are creating an element that is used in the game. This game may lack other things but it's like a drop of water in the desert when it comes to relief from those dreaded HOPs. PLEASE, someone create MORE. October 1, 2015
WELCOME TO THE LAND OF THE ENIGMATIC SPHINX - PUZZLEMANIA ? EGYPTIAN STYLE Here?s my cheer - Ah! Man! Rah! The Sphinx is shining down on me today with an enigmatic game with puzzle after puzzle. I LOVE this game! This is a mini-adventure game chock full of puzzles. There are NO HOP scenes ? only puzzles! The ones I played in the demo vary in difficulty from easy to moderately difficult. This is puzzle maniac?s dream game. You literally solve one puzzle after another. The setting is somewhat like the game ?Luxur.? You have different locations designated on the map to which you must travel to complete the game. A BIG THANK YOU to BFG for providing this game for the minority of us who love puzzles. This game is not for everyone. If you are a ?puzzlemeister?, like ?moi,? you will love it. If you hate puzzles ? you will definitely hate this game. This company tries to provide games which appeal to about everyone?s tastes. GRAPHCS: They are old school and were slightly fuzzy on my computer. The ?muzac? has an Egyptian flavor. The guys will probably enjoy the eye candy provided by the ?hottie? Egyptian lotus blossom. LEVELS: There are NO levels of difficulty. However, if you have trouble with the puzzles ? you can skip the puzzle. There are also no times allotted to skip a puzzle. MAP: You will be guided in your quest throughout Egypt. As you complete one level, the map will indicate to you where to go next. GUIDE: You are provided a strategy guide with this game. PUZZLES: There are a variety of sliding tiles, moving tiles, mathematical puzzles, sequential, weight and balance puzzles. I only played the demo and this is what I encountered: THE FOLLOWING ARE DETAILS (AKA SPOILERS) ABOUT THE PUZZLES ENCOUNTERED IN THE DEMO: A. Variation of a sliding tiles game. Move numbered balls into correct position to open a lock. B. Variation of a matching game. Match up boats by color and design. C. Variation of a sequential puzzle. Find the correct sequence to turn on lights. D. Variation of a sequential puzzle. Step on correct rungs to avoid being eaten by a rascally crocodile E. Variation of a weights and balances puzzle. Balance a scale with equal weights on both sides. F. Variation of a moving tiles puzzle. Slide tiles to create a picture. G. Variation of a mathematical puzzle. Count the squares in a figure. H. Variation of a moving tiles puzzle. Move colored marbles to match up with the correct colored slots. I. Variation of a moving tiles game. Move tiles and rotate them to create a picture. A WONDERFUL PUZZLE ADVENTURE TYPE GAME After 3000 years, in the year 1932 an evil entity has been accidentally released during an excavation in Egypt and now in order to stop the predicted apocalypse, you must find four crystals of energy in order to prevent disaster. With that direction your adventure begins. The graphics are very lovely and colorful and, at least on my laptop, they are crystal clear. The game automatically opened in the widescreen mode and completely filled my 28? monitor. Yes, the music is a bit redundant and some will find it annoying but there is an option to turn the music off. There are voiceovers but no lip-sync. Aside from the sliders for sound there are no other options to customize or even select a mode of gameplay. At the beginning of the game the screen shows a map with various areas and to start the game you click on the unlocked area. The game has an in-game strategy guide that is a helpful step by step walkthrough if you get stuck and need some direction. Riddles of Egypt might have originally been intended for CE release because I do see achievements that can be earned but there are no other extras aside from the strategy guide. The game is more of an adventure/puzzle type game and because I love puzzles, Riddles of Egypt was an instant purchase for me. The first puzzle was a bit tricky but once I figured it out, the solution was easy. Riddles of Egypt might not be for everyone but I suggest that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. September 23, 2015
Nothing But Puzzles And Mini Games Although there are a few inventory items to pick up and use throughout the game, this game is made up entirely of Puzzles and Mini Games. The graphics are so-so and there's not much to the storyline, but that's okay, I really enjoyed the endless puzzles. The goal of the game is to find hidden gems to an ancient amulet, one is located in the Port, one in the Oasis, one in the Temple and the final piece in the Pyramid. The Egyptians were able to defeat the evil darkness that threatened to destroy the world, they buried the darkness deep within the ground but someone unearthed the darkness which unleashed the darkness once more. An egyptian woman appears to warn that you must find the hidden gems to stop the darkness and prevent an apocalypse. Many of the Mini Games require you to search for clues located throughout the scene, such as color sequence and placement before you can solve the puzzle. Some of the games are easy to solve, some are a bit more frustrating, but there is a built in Strategy guide if you get stuck. Below are a list of the games encountered in the demo only: 1) Place ships in the correct order according to color and shapes according to the clues you have found elsewhere. 2) Take balls from the upper line and place them on the bottom in the opposite order using one empty space. 3) Place all weights on both scales so that the scales are even on both sides. 4) Guess the correct sequence to light up several lights. 5) Step on the logs in the correct order so that you don't disturb the alligator. 6) Rotate rings to complete an image. 7) Figure out how many squares are in 3 different diagrams that you have found elsewhere in the game. 8) Slide several color coded gems to their matching slots. 9) Swap tiles and rotate to complete an image. 10) Click in the direction you want all symbols to move until they all slide into the matching shaped slot within 4 moves. 11) Move tiles with 4 different shapes into the correct columns using one empty space. 12) Jump balls over each other until only one ball remains in the center of a Chinese Checkers type board. 13) Click on strings lacing up tent flaps in the correct order. 14) Find and drag the correct shaped stamps to the image shown. 15) Move the wheel to enter the correct password. The answer is a sequence of moves not numbers. If you are looking for a Hidden Object game, you will be out of luck here, but if you want to play endless puzzles and mini games and are willing to overlook the imperfections and lack of bling with this game (other than Achievements and a built in Strategy Guide) you might just enjoy it. PUZZLES, PUZZLES AND MORE PUZZLES Love this game. I do like puzzles, but I found a couple of these impossible to do. I too, found myself using the guide quite frequently, due to lack of direction or instruction with this game. I also found myself completing tasks out of order due to that same lack of direction, I did hit 2 snags though. Not sure if it is a problem with the game itself or my system. One in the Oasis with the lights in the basement, I fixed them, went back up to connect to battery and the wires disappeared. I ended up completing the tasks in the dark. I had the same problem in the sphynx with the lantern. From across the room, the alcove was lit up, but when I went to it, the lamp was out. Again I completed the items in the dark. All in all it is a great game, although I would assume, not for everyone. Definitely give it a try though, you may be pleasantly surprised. I am more a HO game person, but enjoyed this one. SWEEEEEET!!!!! If you're looking for an incredible storyline and character development, this isn't for you. If you're looking for HO scenes after HO scenes, this isn't for you. If you're looking for meaningful dialogue, this isn't for you. BUT, if you're looking for a game with loads of puzzles, one after another, that makes you think; AND, if you're looking for a challenge with very little handholding (unless you want it); AND if you're looking for a really fun, amazing game with lots of variety, this game is for you. A wonderful gem of a game and a positive change from the usual. Give it a try. September 24, 2015
DIDN'T GRAB MY INTEREST I played the demo and did not get done with the first location, the Port. Perhaps further game play would have changed my opinion. After 3000 years of dormancy, a terrible force has been unleashed in 1932 Egypt that is capable of destroying the known world. You must go to four locations and find the object in each location that, combined together, will defeat this force. Nothing about this storyline made me particularly curious about how the game ends. So the game play, for me, must carry the game, as the storyline does not. There is a built-in guide with step by step instructions, unusual for a SE game. The hint is a pyramid and I did not find the recharge time as any kind of hindrance. I actually used the guide more than the hint. I did not seen any place to select a difficulty level, but I saw no sparkles anywhere during the hour I played. The graphics are crisp, clear and colorful. The game cursor is pretty small so you have to be careful not to move too fast or you will miss when it changes to a hand or to gears, which gives you clues as to what to do next. This is the worst thing about the game that I found during the demo. I did not see any standard HOS. You pick up items here and there which are added to your inventory to be used later for mini puzzle solutions. I played the tutorial which was pretty standard. I did not find the game play very linear and it was not always obvious where to go next. For this reason and for help on the mini puzzles, I used the guide several times. The built-in guide was excellent. Its icon is right at the bottom left of the screen and clicking on it opens it in the same window which made it very convenient. It does not take up the whole screen when it opens so you can still see where you are and what you need to do. There is some back and forth within the location but I am guessing that once a location is finished, you will not have to come back to it. Again, that is just a guess. There are lots of achievements to be won but I didn't win a single one while I played. Many of them are based on time and I am just not a fast player or very quick with my cursor movement. Be sure to play the demo before purchase. This is an OK game for a coupon purchase if you have one that you need to use right away. It just does not stand out from the crowd. September 23, 2015
