If You Think Your Mother-In-Law Is Bad Check Out Abigail! Clearly Ellie is going to have problems with her mom to be, this woman's ruthless! When Daniel was just a baby, his father passed away and his mother Abigail became a wee bit overprotective to say the least. When Daniel became ill, Abigail vowed to find a cure, and indeed she did find a cure, in dark magic! Ellie has invited you to visit her in Alaska and visit her fiance Daniel, but Abigail has no intentions of losing Daniel to another woman, and you have no intentions of losing your sister Ellie to this cold hearted woman! The local shaman has foreseen your arrival, and has given you a powerful amulet. This amulet can be used upon any animal totem to magically transform you into the animal totem, temporarily of course. Each time you become one with the animal, you will play a mini game as seen through that animals eyes, such as guiding a mouse through a maze using directional arrows, or soaring through the skies as an owl and finding objects shown through a viewfinder you control. Because you are a wildlife photographer, you have a digital camera that allows you to photograph any wildlife you come across, however, there is no indication to alert you (at least in custom mode) so you will have to pay attention. There are Plus Sign inventory items to tinker with and 22 Achievements to earn, and there are 11 Collectible Character Figurines to find throughout the game. There is a Snowflake icon located on the left of the screen that will allow you to make it snow, either no snow at all, or practically a blizzard. The Hidden Object Puzzles are varied and are usually presented in three stages. Some have Morphing Objects to find followed by interactive list finds, silhouetted shape finds, fragment finds or finding 3 items of each picture shown. There is an alternate Match 3 game available if you aren't into HOP's. There are 13 HOP's available throughout the game. The Mini Games are fun, however they really aren't new and they are very easy puzzles. Tiles to rotate to complete an image but some tiles affect other tiles, untangling a rope by moving the knots to different areas until none of the rope segments overlap, and navigating a boat and using the boats light to find 3 jellyfish, 5 squid and 5 fish, and then clicking on each colored sections to change the color to match them. This Collector's Edition has 10 Concept Art pictures, 5 Soundtracks, 11 Character Figurines, 11 Wildlife photos, 22 Achievements, 13 replayable HOP's, 23 replayable Mini Games, 21 Cutscenes, 11 Wallpapers, and 5 Personality Quiz Questions that will match your answers to 5 different characters personalities, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! DEAR ABBY: HELP! I NEED ADVICE! MY SISTER?S FUTURE MOTHER-IN-LAW IS A ?WITCH? North to Alaska you go to visit your recently engaged sister who needs your support in meeting and dealing with her future mother-in-law, (AKA - ?witch-in-law?). This mother-in-law is a little ?unbalanced? and is brewing up trouble for this bride-to-be and Mother Nature as well! This is a decent low 5-star game. The storyline is well-written; the graphics are cartoon-like with realistic looking characters. The HOP scenes are varied with some multi-step ones and there is the option to play a Match 3 game instead. The mini-games are easy but somewhat innovative and there is one multi-step puzzle in the demo. You have a ?snow thermostat? to regulate the amount of snow seen in the game. Very creative. You also receive a magic amulet to change inanimate objects into animals. You have the usual achievements (22 of them), collectibles (11 figurines), a camera for ?shooting? some wildlife (11 photos ? which unlock a bubble game), some morphing objects (in HOP scenes) and the ability to replay 16 HOP scenes and 17 mini-games. You can also take a Personality Test to connect with your True Self. There is also some nice eye candy in this game as both the future bride and groom in this game are both ?hot? looking bringing a little warmth to a cold climate! LOL I like - not love this game. I give it the full 5 stars because of the creative aspects of some of the HOP scenes and puzzles. Since I am tired of the ?Frozen? winter settings in this summer?s games, this game did not excite me as many others. Paraphrasing Elsa from the movie ?Frozen? - ?Let it go, Let it go ? Get rid of the ice and snow.? Compounding the ?blizzard? of winter games ? this summer - imagine the ?avalanche? of winter games coming this winter! Do you think we can use the ?snow thermostat? from this game to turn off the ice and snow in future games? HOP SCENES: They are varied and contain multi-step ones. In the demo they consist of lists of items to locate, story sequences in which you search for items to place into the proper location in the scenes, silhouette items, morphing objects which open up a list of items to locate MINI GAMES: To me, this is the weakest part of the game. In the demo, the puzzles are extremely easy. However, the saving grace for me was the creative repackaging of the puzzles. There is also one multi-step puzzle in the demo. They consist of variations of a maze puzzle (one is literally a mouse maze), matching, untangling ropes so that they do not intersect (a puzzle not seen in quite a while), and moving tiles INVENTORY: Puzzle-like with some mini-puzzles you must play to create an inventory item LEVELS: Casual Moose, Expert Wolf, Hardcore Grizzly, Wise Owl (Custom) Hints and Skips 15 to 90 seconds GRAPHICS: Cartoon-like with brilliant colors and realistic looking characters. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE SNOWFALL! YEAH! NONE FOR ME, PLEASE! EXTRAS: Map is given to you at the start of the game 22 Achievements Collect 11Figurines Camera ? to ?shoot? 11 wildlife photos. If you locate all the animals you activate a bubble game Magical Amulet to help you change inanimate objects to animals Take a Personality Quiz! Answer questions to determine what kind of person you are Morphing objects ? used in the HOP scenes Strategy guide Usual wallpaper, bonus game, replay of HOP scenes and 17 puzzles, music, art HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFO ON THE HOP SCENES AND MINI-GAMES: HOP SCENES: You have the option to play a theme-related Match 3 game instead A. Multi-step HOP scene. A list of a specific number of items to locate followed by a list of items to locate B. Locate jigsaw pieces of a totem pole to end up with the final product ? a totem pole! C. Story HOP scene. Locate items within the scenes and return them to the proper locations D. Multi-step HOP scene. List of items to locate followed by silhouette items to create an inventory item E. Multi-step HOP scene. First locate all morphing objects to unlock a scene with a list of objects in which you must locate a specific number of each object in the scene. MINI-GAMES: A. Literally a mouse maze. Guide the little critter to the center of a maze EASY B. Fix a camera by placing pieces in the correct location to ?shoot? wildlife (pictures). EXTREMELY EASY C. Moving tiles jigsaw puzzle. Move tiles to create a picture. Moving one affects the others in the puzzles. MODERATELY DIFFICULT D. Untangle ropes so that none touch each other EASY E. Multi-step puzzle. Locate 3 colorful jellyfish to remove from a pond followed by a variation of a matching game clicking on the tentacles until they match the color of the jellyfish Do the same for squids and fish VERY CREATIVE AND EASY F. Variation of matching. Push buttons in a sketch with buttons to open a passage in a statue. EXTREMELY EASY G. COMBO HOP SCENE AND PUZZLE: The game considers it a puzzle ? but I see it as both a puzzle and a HOP scene. Using a viewfinder and rotating the image? locate a group of items EASY August 29, 2015
OMG I DIDNT WANT IT TO END!!!!!! sometimes near the end of a game, although I love the game I get a lil blah near the end because the story didn't keep my attention etc but this game I didn't want to end..what a wonderful fun game with a great storyline terrific graphics nice and clear and colorful. I liked how you could control the amount of snow falling. I really really really recommend this game!!!! put your feet up and take a ride to Alaska and help save your dear sister from her witch in law to be...and don't forget to take photos of animals you see along the way September 1, 2015
Great game Its rare for me I have to buy a game as soon as i played the demo, its even rarer I put in a review. I had to with this one - really good graphics, interesting story, and good varied hidden scenes and collectibles to gather. I recommend this game. August 29, 2015
An Inuit Adventure! TITLE: MYSTERY TALES: ALASKAN WILD, CE DEV: BIG FISH/Domini Games STORY LINE: You come to an Alaskan village to help out when there is a mysterious disappearance of two young women. SPECIAL ASPECTS: I found the Inuit tales and cultural items fascinating, although I know very little of Inuit culture. Having someone with that background (Inuit/Alaskan expert ect.) would be a great addition to these reviews. Also the voice overs were excellent and fitted the characters perfectly, although I did find the young man a little wimpy, but at least it was consistent with his story line! HOW MANY SETTINGS? 4 GRAPHICS: Outstanding (with the caveat below in "My Take") MORPHING OBJECTS Yes, sometime a HOS is exclusively morphs! Fun. COLLECTIONS? Figurines of the characters in the game. Also you?re given a camera and need to find 11 animals to take. ALT.GAME: I think it?s a match-3. PETS/HELPERS: No, but some cute animals on the way in the game. MAP: Yes, interactive PUZZLES: I actually did quite well on these. Most of the puzzles were integrated into the game too, like finding runes. MY TAKE: An absolutely great game. There was one area, early on when the screen froze and it wouldn?t let me play the HOG, but I could bypass it with the alternate game. I don't think it is a big issue as I could bypass it. Hopefully by the time I?m ready to play this again they will have a patch for that one area (next to the museum, when you talk to this old guy named Ralph, I think) Anyway, I STILL give give this my very high personal 5.8 rating:) and look forward to more games like this. It is a keeper! LAST PLAYED: September 9, 2015 September 9, 2015
Your sister's mother-in-law to be is a witch! Another snow and ice story, but this time the setting is Alaska, and it really feels like you are there! You can even make it snow harder, if you want to! The Alaskan Wild is a big part of the story, almost a character by itself. The voice overs are unique to Alaska - you feel like you are right there, talking to the Eskimo shaman. What a great game! Your sister Ellie invites you to visit her in Alaska, and meet her fianc Daniel, and Daniel's mother Abigal. It seems Abigal plays "mommy dearest" with all of Daniel's fiancs, plus she's a witch with power over the ice and other natural resources in Alaska. She's taken Ellie away, froze Daniel up in his house, and removed the bridge over the river so you can't follow! Aha -- but you are a clever sister and manage to free Daniel, collect an amulet that turns you into various creatures temporarily, and off you go to rescue Ellie. It seems Daniel's previous fianc Claire is also missing............ As part of the CE Bling, you can take a Personality test #I am Inupik, the shaman#. You can find 11 figurines of people in the story. If you take 11 wildlife photos with your camera, you open up a Bubble mini-game. The voice overs are excellent, as are the graphics - and the snow! The HOS are interesting - find objects in the snow, or find morphing items then find scarves and hats and snowflakes. All very on point in Alaska. The mini-games are not hard, but fun. To cross the river, you have to find jellyfish, and fish, and a third sea critter, then match the colors on each before your boat can cross. This game is a lot of fun, with a unique setting that is carried through all facets of the game. Cannot wait to buy! August 29, 2015
SHADES OF JACK LONDON AND MOMMY DEAREST It has been a while since you have seen your sister Ellie who lives in Alaska and she really wants you to come for a visit. Since you are a writer, it doesn?t take much for Ellie to convince you that your next book could be about Alaska so with that as an extra incentive you soon find yourself on a flight to Alaska for a long overdue visit. When you arrive at the airport Ellie is glowing and you learn her secret as she invites to a special dinner with her fianc Daniel. As you and Ellie arrive for dinner at Daniel?s home you get to meet our villainess, a real mommy dearest, who is sure to be the mother-in-law from you know where. Abigail uses some powerful magic and whisks Ellie away so now you must rescue sis and finally put Abigail in her place. As you trek across the glorious wild vistas of Alaska you encounter wild wolves, huge bears, and some very interesting characters. Just as a note, the game did not automatically open in widescreen on my laptop and I had to click the widescreen button to get the black side bars to disappear. The game offers four modes of gameplay with catchy little names: Casual Moose, Expert Wolf, Hardcore Grizzly and my favorite ? Wise Owl, where you can fiddle with all sorts of settings so that you can set up the game for the way you like to play. The sound package includes lip-synced voiceovers that are generally very good and special sound effects that are awesome. One of the effects that I particularly enjoyed was the realism created by the howling winter wind as it was blowing through the trees. The graphics are amazingly beautiful and colorful despite all of the white, snowy vistas that we move through. After all the recent winter themed games it seems like BFG wants to give us something to cool the blistering hot days of summer. Of course this is fine with me since winter is my favorite time of year. In Alaska Wild we get to enjoy the beauty of the frosty northern tundra and the special delight of those wonderful Northern Lights, something I would like to experience first-hand. In the user interface area you will find your inventory and other tools. You have a compass that when clicked opens your interactive, transporter type that will indicate areas where there are available tasks depending on your mode of gameplay. Other tools include a special amulet that you receive early in the game that allows you to animate animal totems. You also have a camera so that you can take photos of any animals you that will be stored in an album. The HOPS are really gorgeous with a great variety but all of them are multi-level, combo type scenes. I found them quite a bit of fun and enjoyed them more than usual. During the demo there was one storybook type where we find and replace items on the page but most of the others are more traditional. If you really don?t want to complete the HOPS then you can choose play an alternate Match 3 game if you prefer. I am so excited that the game has more mini-games than HOPS with 23 mini-games to 13 HOPS. Some examples of the mini-games include: rotate tiles to complete a picture, untangle ropes to clear them, push buttons in a specific order to open a cache, get a boat to safety by completing mini-puzzles. This just lists a few of the puzzles and there are many more. Some were very easy but others are a bit more difficult. I haven?t yet found one that is just plain frustrating. The CE version of the game includes collectibles and achievements to be earned along with the standard extras such as replay of mini-games, HOPS, Wallpapers, Cutscenes, Concept Art, Strategy Guide, Bonus Game, Wildlife Photos and a Personality Quiz. There is also a Wildlife Album where you will store photos that you take during your Wild Alaskan adventure. Even though for some more seasoned HOPA players the game might seem fairly easy, the game is one that I truly enjoy. The developer has created a gorgeous winter masterpiece with absolutely beautiful graphics. I think the storyline is quite good even though it might make some future brides-to-be cringe and want to take a closer look at their soon to be MILs. If you don?t mind the easy gameplay, the HOPS and mini-games add a lot to the game and will most likely increase in challenge as is normally the case. Although the game is an instant buy for me, as always, I suggest you try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. August 29, 2015
Beautiful Scenery, Great Story. As others have pointed out the story is very interesting with the evil mother-in-law to be focused on saving her son's life and not so concerned about anyone else but with a bit of a twist in the end of both the CE and the standard versions. The scenery was very pleasurable, there were gorgeous winter landscapes with sparkling snow and northern lights. No dark, dreary, depressing scenes here. Voice overs were well done. Some of the puzzles were very easy but I don't mind that, it makes the game flow faster it also makes it a good game for beginners. The personality test in the CE version is a lot of fun and different from the usual extras. This is definitely a good one. February 14, 2016
I think you'll like this a lot! Wow, what a great game. It's been a long time since I liked something this much. I am a bit tired of the HOGs but I of course buy a ton. I have bought less because it's the same stuff and while I appreciate the work that goes into the games, some strike me as if they're being done on cookie-cutter assembly lines lately. This one is so full of creative twists and extra effort at every turn I just have to say I'm impressed. Others have gone on and on (an on) about the story so I won't. I'm not trying to get a job writing for "Wired", I'm trying to say if the game is worth spending your money on. It is. I think this CE is worth it because while I never care at all about the music and screen savers or concept art (I see that as the developer's homage to their ego; it's not extras for ME, it's their extra stuff. Do you really put annoying, looped game tracks on your iPod? hah. ) This game truly has extras for US. Here's the bullet points: Colors, artwork, workings: Really great and crisp and pretty. Lots of little details in every corner. A few random things I clicked on did things when they didn't have to. I love extra thought that's put into a game because i can tell the Devs just had fun making the game. Heads on the people are real heads. Gramma looks like a real Gramma. Voice overs are real people speaking like real people, not hammy voice actors making you cringe. The mouths move like mouths. I usually turn the voices off because face it, my dog can do better, but these are nice. No one looks like they were up partying the night before and too tired to be there. Chris the Fiance is cute. His Mother, the evil person in the game, is a witch with a "B" and when she showed up I said, "OMG what a biat..." at the monitor and she didn't disappoint. There is no sniveling child who should have been in bed long ago and no one acting so stupid that I didn't care if they were eaten by the evil red eyed Thing, which there also are none. You are not standing at a door you can't open with a bomb, a flame thrower and a front loader. Yay. Match 3 game can be played instead of hidden object game. Many mini-games and hidden object games have a game-within-a-game. Hidden object game might start out by finding 3 of 4 items (3 books, 3 glasses, 3 gifts) which then unlocks a hidden object list. They're junk piles but well done and again, artwork is pretty. You have a camera with which you take 11 wildlife photos of slightly hidden animals through the game when you spot them in any scene. Map can indicate if you forgot to do this and need to go back. You can turn this feature on or off via the map at any time. There are 11 collectible figurines hidden in the game that you must collect. This can be turned on or off via the map, too Settings: By "slider" you can set the : music - effects - environment -voices and check: wide screen- custom icons - full screen - special effects You can choose to view the whole tutorial or just the part of the tutorial for the "special" features Play modes: Casual - Active Zones highlighted, skip for games and hint refill quick Expert: Active Zones not highlighted, skip for games and hint refill slow Hardcore - No highlights, no tutorial Custom: set yourself: tutorial (all or just the special features), active area indicator wanted?, active area sparkles?, Hidden object sparkles?, Hint refill and puzzle skip - set to between 15-90 seconds Interactive jump map lets you access, via pop-up on same page, your achievements so far and collected items so far. Map indicates where you are, what locations are available and which have a task available. You can turn that feature on or off via the map at any time. Strategy guide stays open to the page you last left it at. Mini games are clever, many are new. Demo was 90 minutes. Extras: concept art (10), music (5), Bonus game, Wildlife photos (11), 10 question personality quiz to see which game character you're most like, game achievements (22 - some are timed like find 5 HO items in 5 seconds or finish a puzzle in a minute. Some are things you do just playing the game. They are all obtainable) There's a Bubbles mini game and Match 3 mini game to play once you get all 11 animal photos. Off to buy. I think you'll like this. Lot's of extra care behind this one. When they enjoy it, it shows, and then I think we enjoy it! August 30, 2015
Great Game! Love this game! Beautifull graphics. The voices were so right on for Alaskans or Indians. Good story. The game moved right along with no wondering where things go. Probably a good one for beginners of Hidden Object games. September 3, 2015
