Dark Realm: Princess of Ice 4.5 5 22 22
FIRE AND ICE COMBINE TO WIN YOUR HEART IN A WONDERFUL GAME Dark Realm: Princess of Ice begins with a cutscene that was worthy of any epic big-screen production and most likely one of the best I have seen in a casual game. This icy fantasy begins when you suddenly awaken with a huge `bear in your room who tells you that Princess Marissa has been trapped in a frozen tower and that you must rescue her. I don?t know about you but if a huge bear roars at me in the middle of the night and then swipes at me with a gigantic paw, you can bet I would do what he asks. So begins your journey to the Kingdom of Nypha to rescue the princess. The game offers four modes of gameplay with catchy names: Frost, Snowfall, Blizzard, and Custom. If you select the custom mode you can choose your own settings. The hint and skip buttons can be set from 15 ? 90 seconds. Princess of Ice has wonderful crisp and clear graphics that are a mix of hand drawn artwork scenes along with some live actors for the characters. I think the Mad Hatters must have had an inside joke when your character?s female advisor, Myrina, was obviously a man. Too funny! The overall sound package is excellent with lip-synced voiceovers that are very good. If they give out awards for sound in games then Princess of Ice would have my vote for best sound package in a game this year. Tools include a bracelet that we acquire from the bear early in the game and it is linked to another ?gift? that we receive as well. I don?t want to fill in all the details on what to do with the bracelet but it will help us in iffy situations. The interactive transporter type map that is available at the beginning of the game and it will help us travel quickly from one area to another. The HOPS are varied in nature with some being multi-level. There is also some interaction required in most HOPS to locate several items. The puzzles also have quite a bit of variety but I have to admit that early on there is one of the type that I dislike where we must avoid obstacles as we speed race along a path. I manage to crash into every obstacle along the way in these types of puzzles so I generally hit the skip button as soon as I can. Princess of Ice grabbed me from that opening cutscene and there was enough momentum that kept me intrigued and wanting more. I found the storyline to be very good and, although the theme is redundant and has been presented many times, I knew right away that Princess of Ice would be a game that I would love. As always, I recommend that you try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. September 18, 2015
Fantastic Fantasy Adventure with Outstanding Game Play... This sequel was an instabuy for me. A Death grip of cold is coming to your kingdom from Nypha, so you will have to travel there and use your fire-wielder medallion to remove the icy curse from Princess of Nypha! Dark Realm 2: Princess of Ice CE and SE. Created by the twisted and incredible imagination of Mad Head Games. Get ready to embark on a remarkable journey as you play the role of Queen Valera in search of a runaway princess who poses as a boy and steals a Magic Saber in the quest against evil. With the help of a young apprentice named Borivor who sacrifices his human form to also aid in saving the princess, Chob'Ahn the wizard, and Myrina your spiritual guide, you make your way to the Den of Awakening. There King Iret awaits you and HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO COMPLETE THE SABER AND RELEASE IT'S POWER. You: Who are you? What are you doi? Bear: You must get to the princess, or we?re all doomed! You: What?s happening? Where did this snow come from? What?s going on? It?s never snowed in my kingdom before! You: I just had the strangest dream! The bear?s mark is glowing! Oh, and didn?t it drop a bracelet around here? It?s that bracelet the bear left on my bed! Soon your magic bracelet becomes a Frozen Claw which has many uses thru the course of the quest. Drag and connect gems of same color to destroy objects game (which gains different uses of the Frozen Claw). It's big at around four or more hours long for the average play, it's gorgeous with beautifully illustrated characters and environments, and it's packed with puzzles, mini-games, and cut scenes galore. Admittedly, there are times when the game might lean a bit too hard on gimmicks over actual thinky puzzles, such as repeatedly having you time clicks to hit a certain section of a circle to succeed at acts of skill throughout the game, but there's just so much going on it's hard to really mind. Backtracking exists but is happily kept to a minimum, and the game moves you to new locations often enough that it always keeps your interest. This is an terrific follow up to the Dark Realm: Queen of Flames. September 18, 2015
Great game I liked this one so well I bought another Dark Realm game! September 23, 2015
This is what a 5 star game looks like!! Best game I've played in a very long time, I'd give it 10 stars if I could. I almost didn't play it because I'm so tired of icy this, and snowy that, but considering the reviews I decided to demo it, once I started playing the game I had to have it! Everything about this game was top notch, you can tell the developers poured their heart and soul into this game! You meet and interact with other people through out the game which I love, the voice overs and music where perfect, the visuals were stunning, the hogs and mini games were fun and challenging. It has a custom level so you can have skips and hints in 15 seconds, I love this because I have no problem hitting hint and told exactly which way I should go, saves my shoulder and neck from undo pain from clicking all over the place. I also have no problem skipping mini games but I didn't do that in this game because they were all so much fun! I was so sad when this game ended I would have loved to play for many more hours! Try it I think you'll like it. I loved it! January 1, 2016
Spellbinding! Dark Realm: Princess of Ice had some of the clearest, colorful graphics that I have seen in a while. Loved the light, shadows and 3D effects. The characters and scenes were so well thought out and clever. Hats off to the animators, graphic designers and everyone at Mad Hat for a stellar game. Loved the train driving dwarf and his wife and the characters in the tavern. The dungeon scenes and the dungeon guard very creative. Great gameplay and storyline. I am just sorry the apprentice did not get his human form back. Maybe in the sequel. Mad Hat you are my favorite of the developers. I have to go back and look at some of the other games by Mad Hat I may have not purchased yet. I am sure I have most of them. December 28, 2015
awwsome game! It is the usual storyline found in these type of games with a twist. There are an assortment of other well liked games within it. I enjoyed it from the first few minutes of the trial and immediately purchased it. It took about 3 hours to complete but was well worth the time. The graphics are great. Would certainly recommend this one. This producer is doing big things. This is about the third from them that I really enjoyed. October 4, 2015
Game of the Year! See my title. That's all I need to say. October 20, 2015
Wow! Such a beautiful game! The music is incredible, the graphics are absolutely beautiful (including the back story drawings/puzzles), the voices are well done. I wanted to hear my character talk more! :) I love their faces! Good story and humorous, the puzzles were interestingly different...all perfect! I am in awe. January 16, 2016
Best game for a very long time! This game had me intrigued from the start. It didn't really give alot of instructions which at first was a little annoying but I came to see that as the challenge and enjoyed it even more. It seems to incroporate all the aspects of HO games that make them enjoyable and it certainly taxes the brain. What I loved most (and this is silly really), but it wrapped it all up nicely at the end and completed the story!! It didn't just end in mid air like most of them do. January 22, 2016
another great game in the "dark realm" series you play as princess valera trying to save your friend (another princess) that has gone missing and stolen a very valuable artifacrt. her father has asked you to find her and bring her and the artifact back. the artifact, the ice sword, will give the one in possession of it a great deal of power. there is a custom level and an interactive map. the types of HO scenes vary and keep things from getting boring. sometimes the itmes are rather small. sequel....................oh, i believe so. it is set up to be one.
