Customer Reviews
Red Riding Hood: Star-Crossed Lovers is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An interesting twist on an ancient story This review is based upon my having purchased and played the entire game. I loved the little notes (shown as wolf holograms or shadows) telling us the history of Little Red Riding Hood in various countries and forms. As a previous reviewer stated the game is heavy on HOS with some puzzles. A note to the confusion about the flowers: the fleur-de-lis is definitely a flower, fleur being French for flower and lis being lily or sometimes called an iris. Some of the music reminded me of the old game show The Match Game which other old-timers will recognize. The graphics were great, the game itself was great, hint system worked well, no nonsense and fun. I do wish it had been concluded with the marriage of the werewolf and Red, but all in all, I'm very happy with the game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HO HO HO! 'Tis the season for hidden objects... Red Riding Hood-Star crossed lovers is all about the HOs. It is one scene after another and it is just fine for me, and others that can't get enough of this genre. The quality of this game is quite good actually. This game is part of a series of games from same Developers and they are pretty much the same. Relaxing, good graphics, lots of HO scenes and extra image to locate to obtain some inside tips. There are also easy to solve puzzles and find an object and place it somewhere scenes as well. Hint recharges fast enough, though I hardly use it as the objects are clear enough to notice. The music is OK and ambient sounds are well placed in the background. The story is refreshing, new twist on the good old story of Little Red Riding Hood, the dialog leaves much to be desired though. The game runs smooth and it does not get my laptop to overheat, which some heavy duty games on bigfish usually like to do. Reason why I gave it only 4 stars: dialog is not smart and the font they chose for the list is annoyingly annoying. I do recommend to at least try and see for yourself, but for people that like relaxing HOs games, this will be another one to have fun with.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Old style game, but tolerably fun Instead of the Big Bad Wolf wanting to eat Red Riding Hood, he wants to marry her. It's awfully simplistic. Old-school. And there's an awful lot of talk talk talk. In writing. But sometimes it's pretty and sometimes even beautiful. Except for the big white icons and arrows that are always on the screen. Two of the musical themes were great, the little one that starts out sounding line a music box and the piano one. Except for the HOPs, it is click and drag, not just click. Which is not so good for my elderly elbow. Hint recharge is at least 30 seconds, which was semi-OK mostly. But in one HOS, things were invisible, so then, waiting for the hint seemed interminable. Too many HOS and not enough puzzles for me. The inventory stayed hidden unless you clicked on it. Great feature. HOPS: ==HOPs are just word lists, so not that interesting. But it's good that I can just click on everything and get through them. ==There is a click penalty, though it is not too annoying because you have to click fast & close together to set it off. ==Some items were oddly named, I thought. The one I remember=I was supposed to find 2 flowers. One I never saw, the other was a fleur de lis. Didn't think to click on it because, despite its name, it is a symbol of French royalty to me, not a daisy or a rose. MINI-GAMES =Directions to mini-game #1 were not really correct. The puzzles was not "grouping the symbols" so much as it was chaining them together. What characteristic to use to order them was, at first, unclear, but I figured it out. Though easy, it was fun. =Mini-game #2 was impossible, though, and I skipped it. =I never found mini-game #3 before the demo time ran out. Did I say not enough mini-games? But despite all these quibbles, I had a good time. That's why 4 stars. Try it, you might like it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Hidden Object game, but truncated ending Pros: good story, good HOS, easy puzzles/mini games I enjoyed reading trivia about the Red Riding Hood story--how it developed, its origins, and the many riffs on the tale through the centuries Cons: no voiceovers--all dialogue between characters must be read. Music is repetitive and not particularly great Minimal movie action, except towards the end I would have given this 4 stars, except the "ending" is not really an ending and ends without satisfactory conclusion, resulting in an incomplete story. This is an old school HO game. You have to download Direct X for it to work. Each time you see a "wolf" imprint in the scene and click on the symbol, a pop-up bubble appears giving you trivia about Red Riding Hood the fairytale. A blinking eye symbol indicates an HOS. An arrow indicates transition to another location. A swirling arrow indicates an action can be performed with an inventory item. A jigsaw puzzle piece indicate a mini game. Very straightforward. The HOS can be a bit challenging, but straightforward format. There is a hint button on lower right. Some hidden items are highlighted and requires clicking on the werewolf button (lower left) so you can see those items. A good game for beginners or someone who wants a straightforward hidden object treasure hunt.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Way Below Average ... Graphics OK, Sound Very Average With No Thrills Or Frills ... Scenes OK With Lots Of Repeating HOG's ... Probably The Lowest Quality New Release Of The Year ... If You Have A Voucher To Use Up It's Worth A Go ...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Werewolf Doggie in Love This is a very short game. The artwork is simplistic, Here are the + and -. Pros: Many wolf icons to find with everything you ever did (or not) want to know about the fairy tale Red Riding Hood. Very good HOS, well hidden objects which suited the game Funny expressions on the Were-Wolfs face as he tries to sort out his feelings for Red. Very funny witch character that helps the pair to escape Cons: As the game constantly reminds us this is one of the oldest tales in the world, so no real surprises. VERY short game. Animation is very amateurish and stiff. If you really like HOS, and courses in world literature/myths this has a definite appeal. What saves it is a sense of humor around the Wolf, and the weird old witch. I recommend saving this for a free credit: but try it first!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had potential Had fun playing this, it's a pleasant game to play when you don't want too much of a challenge. Would have been better if it had voices instead of having to read the script. My biggest issue with this game was how incredibly short it was. Only took a little over the one hour trial, which made me feel a bit bummed that i paid for it...even with a discount. I enjoyed the refreshing take on the little red riding hood story. So i would recommend playing the trial, but not to buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mixed feelings on this one I like hidden object games and this has a lot of HOS - along with mini games which aren't my favorite mainly because I buy games for the HOS not to get bogged down with MG's. The constant chat was annoying as was the music in some of the scenes. Possibly a foreign developer since ladybugs were referred to in the HOS as "ladybirds," and some objects were very hard to find. Hint button loaded as expected. Not too clear on a few of the scenes just what was wanted or needed. So am not going to recommend or not recommend - just give my take on it. This game like all games will appeal to some and not others so you just have to roll the dice and take a chance it's your cup of tea so to speak.
