Myths of the World: The Whispering Marsh 4.1 5 19 19
Hold Your Breath There's a legend here in the Whispering Marsh, of a mysterious and frightening man who loathes any form or merriment, they call him the Lantern Man (insert dramatic music). Careless people who laugh and sing or even the foolish who dare taunt the Lantern Man, have disappeared into the foggy marsh, never to return! It is said, that if you can hold your breath when he shines his lantern upon you, your soul will be spared. So many good people have disappeared, prompting an investigation by the County Bounder, surely this legend was created to to frighten misbehaving children, but just in case........HOLD YOUR BREATH! The graphics are fantastic, crisp, and well defined, exactly what you'd expect in a quiet town nestled near an eerie marsh, especially a Whispering Marsh. Top the graphics off with theater quality video cinematics that draw you into the storyline, hook, line and sinker, and you get another superior Myths of the World episode. Many of the inventory items you collect are complex items that require some form of interaction before they can be used, such as combining it with another item. The Collector's Edition has the addition of Achievements to earn, Hidden Acorns to find, and even Morphing Objects within the HOP's! Personally, I love Morphs in the game itself with very slow morphing features that aren't linear, putting an occasional morph into a HOP doesn't thrill me as much. The Hidden Object Scenes are pretty lengthy, some have interactive list finds followed by duel pictures that require you to find the item associated when combines such as a mirror image of a womans silhouette is a mirror. One of my favorite HOP was an extremely interactive and progressive silhouetted shape find where you find the first item matching the silhouetted shape and then use that item in the scene to expose the next item and so forth. There was also one that tasked you with finding 5 birds and 5 keys on a stone mural, which would combine to a pigeon and a large key that is used to eat bird seed and open a lock uncovering a list of items, I enjoyed the variety. There are also small HOP's within zoomed in zones where you find a handful of the same type of item such as 6 petals. Both this Standard Edition and the Collector's Edition offer an alternate game of Mahjong, but the HOP's are really entertaining and way more exciting than a tile matching game. I didn't come across anything new as far as the puzzle or mini games went, I'll list a few of the games that stand out: 1) Navigating through obstacles on a map using a directional compass arrow. 2) Sliding 4 shells to open a bookshelf, some shells also affect others. 3) Matching pairs of symbols by turning over two symbols at a time. 4) Using a lockpick to open 3 different lock tumblers, rotating the top pick until correctly placed and pushing in on the bottom pick. 5) Connecting gears from the top left to the bottom right using chains of different lengths, blue chains connect two fields, red chains connect a single field. 6) Several increasingly difficult Lantern puzzles where you make connections to enclose all of the symbols in a continuous line, however you cannot directly connect two identical symbols you have to alternate them. The Collector's Edition has 13 Achievements, 42 Hidden Acorns, 16 Morphing Objects within the HOP's, 18 Puzzles or Mini Games, an alternate game of Mahjong, a Souvenir Room, Lore Book, 10 Soundtracks, the Making of, Videos, 8 Concept Art pictures, 8 Wallpapers, 16 replayable HOP's, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy....... and remember to hold your breath when the Lantern Man shines his lantern upon you! Whispering Surprise & Happiness RETURNED!!!! THANK YOU EIPIX!!!!!!! You have finally come back to the standard we all expect from ya'll & I for one appreciate it!!! It was a great surprise to be able to understand & make sense of this game all the way thru. The story line was great, the challenge was so much better even if some of the HOS were the same as before ya'll changed them up to include FROGS & silhouettes, put aways & regular HOS & the mini games were really good & the explanations for the games were perfect. I loved the lantern games & enjoyed the fact they got relatively harder each use of the lantern & it was fun as well. I was happy, surprised & excited to play this game once I saw that it was not gonna be like the previous 2 games & how some of ya'lls others turned out. Please keep up the great work you have come back to & I don't care if you only put out 2-3 games a yr as long as they are awesome games that make sense, have a great story line & are not anywhere near what ya'll have been doing lately. Better to put a few great games out rather then many awful games Beginning to end this game was great, graphics were beautiful & well done, & tho I didn't get the CE I think it would be worth it for CEs in all the series except Dark Rose & Heart of Desolation, those 2 games are not even worth getting at all January 18, 2016
Fantastic! This game has everything, including great music! I found the puzzles different and challenging. The HOS's were varied and never boring. Voiceovers were some of the best. Graphics were awesome. I liked everything about this game. Big Fish, you've been offering some great games recently. Please keep it up! Eipix and ERS are still favorites, but Mad Head is quickly catching up! October 22, 2015
another great game in the series. a custom level, an interactive map. you are the county bounder that is brought in to stop the disappearance of the people of the village. when you found out that the weird lights are being controlled by an evil entity then that gives you something to work on. the HO scenes are varied. sequel....i feel sure. Spirits! A lantern! A county bounder! Interesting indeed! (SE) Another great game in this series. The story, graphics, and music are great. The puzzles are not overly challenging in regular mode. I did like the lantern puzzles, different twist, and they got more challenging as the game progressed. October 10, 2015
IS HE REAL OR A CHILDREN?S FABLE As the County Bounder you certainly have your hands full this time. Are you chasing after a fantasy or is something much worse going on in the Whispering Marsh. Your help is needed because many citizens of the town have gone missing in the forest around Whispering Marsh and now it is up to you to figure it out and to stop the disappearances. But before you even start you have an accident as you are approaching the town. Not only is your carriage disabled, your coachman has now drowned in the marsh. Not a very auspicious beginning to your investigation. Once you reach the town you find there is a curfew and the citizens are in a panic. The sheriff is now among the missing and things seem to be getting worse all the time. You learn that there is a local legend of the ?Lantern Man? who whisks away those who enjoy laughter, dancing and merriment. Some say it was a bedtime story to frighten misbehaving children but maybe he isn?t a fable at all. Just beware ? you mustn?t laugh or have any fun while playing or you just might go missing too. One look at the devs name on this game and you know the graphics will be excellent. The sound package in the game is quite good with voiceovers that okay but not the best I have heard in a game. Technical Aspects of the game include four modes of gameplay: Explorer, Professor, County Bounder, and the custom mode ? Swamp Dweller where you can fiddle with settings so you can play the game the way you like. In the Swamp Dweller mode the hints can be set in a range of 10 to 120 seconds and the skips from 10 to 400 seconds in the custom level you can also turn off the penalty setting for random clicking in the HOPS. : You have an interactive transporter type map that is found very early in the game. Yes there is a gimmick ? a lantern that you acquire early in the game. You will use the lantern to drive away the swamp lights but you must charge it by playing a mini-puzzle before it is ready to be used. The HOPS included the standard interactive variety of scenes that we now see in HOPA games so there is nothing new or earth-shaking here. That being said the HOPS are very good with items that are fairly easy to spot. If you don?t want to search for items in the HOP scenes you may choose the option of playing the alternate game of Mah-jongg. In my humble opinion, some of the puzzles seem to be getting better and have a bit more challenge in recent games. I am hopeful that the trend continues in Myths of the World The Whispering Marsh but initially I didn?t encounter any that were too difficult. I know that the puzzles generally become progressively more difficult as a game progresses so I hope that is the case with The Whispering Marsh. Myths of the World is one of my favorite game series and The Whispering Marsh is a game I have been eagerly awaiting. This developer knows how to formulate a great story and this one definitely captured my interest. Even though I couldn?t wait to hit that buy button, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like October 2, 2015

Myths of the World: The Whispering Marsh

The twinkling lights in the marsh look pretty, but they hold a mysterious power. Whatever you do... do not follow them!
