Rite of Passage: Heart of the Storm Collector's Edition 3.9 5 50 50
Excellent game, new story line... Hi all! Well, here I am, getting my review in late in the day again. Too much to do, too little time. As always, I review on the game play and not the story, but this one is a really good and different story. I have been waiting for this game to come out since I beta tested it back in October. This makes #5 in this series...yep, got them all. The game play is excellent, no problems at all and the scenes fit my large screen completely. I really liked the graphics, which include very nice animation and even appropriate facial movements, depending on what is happening and being said at the time. Colors are a little washed out while you are in the storm, but I think that gives more credibility to the storm. Once you are inside, they are very clear and true. Voice overs are excellent and fit the character very well. Especially like the sound FX. I'm not hot on thunder and lightning storms, but these sound FX are done very well and are very realistic. HOPs are a combination of interactive HOPs, lists, find this number of that, etc., and are nicely done. They are very clean and clear and items are not difficult to find, but you do have to use your brain on a couple of them. They are different and fun. There is also a morphing item in each HOP, so be on the lookout, as it morphs fairly quickly. Puzzles were interesting and somewhat different as well. They are not terribly challenging, but they are nicely done and as I said, somewhat different. Hint system is very helpful, but I did not see a transport feature in this game. The jump map is very helpful as well, and areas of interest are clearly marked. This is a time saver, as you do a lot of back-tracking in this game. Didn't even look at the SG, since it doesn't have much and didn't list collectibles. The only collectibles I found so far are a cloud with a lightning bolt running through it. These are quite large and easy to see. They can be in solid form or an outline, so watch for them. As I said, I have been waiting for this one to come out. The story is different enough and the game is challenging enough to keep me interested and wanting more. I have the need to play this one out and see what happens. I think this one will appeal to all levels of players. I don't give 5 stars easily, a game has to be exceptional to get them from me, but this one came close. Wish we could do quarter marks on reviews, as I would give this one a 4.75. Since I can't, I'll give it 5 stars, even though it's just a bit lower. Of course I'm going to add this to my collection. It is well worth the price of a CE. As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Beautiful Story What a gorgeous game, with such a beautiful story. I was sad when the game ended because I wasn't yet ready to let it go. The story is different than the usual stuff we get in these games, and had me drawn in from the beginning. A few twists and turns, with redemption in the end. I loved the first Rite of Passage game; the last one I was quite ambivalent about. Again it's usually the story that draws me in and makes a difference whether it's run of the mill, forgettable, or memorable. This one will certainly stay with me, and I wish we could see more in future of Omni. Graphics were as usual with this developer top-notch. I did not see any comparison in screens to the Beyond game (which I enjoyed as well, but IMO this game is much better). Outside of a silo and barn, there is no comparison at all, nor with the storyline. I personally enjoyed this game much better because the Beyond game felt more like an interactive movie. This one, to me, is a very good adventure style game, and not nearly the kind of character dialogue seen in the Beyond game. (I tried the dialogue on both settings available in the options, and frankly didn't find any significant difference between them). Cutscenes were not particularly long, added to the story, and did not feel like they were added to lengthen the game at the expense of the gaming itself. The game was not particularly difficult, but the level of challenge in the puzzles was enough to make me ponder in a few of them and use my noggin, and although there were a few that were very easy, for the most part I still felt satisfied after solving the majority. The developer continues to be innovative, providing interactivity in HOPS and types of puzzles that we have not seen before. Well done! Definitely a strong point of this developer, and a strong point in this game as well. I've been a BF member since around 2008 or earlier, have played hundreds of HOPS and adventure games, and rarely write a review or comment. But, this one deserves it. I continue to appreciate what this developer brings out, and though there were a couple games they made in last year or so which I thought were perhaps becoming a bit like all the rest mass offerings in this genre, I feel in this latest Rite of Passage installment they are right back on track. Thank you for a very enjoyable last couple days in interacting with this lovely story. Definitely recommended. January 17, 2016
Great game Almost the only thing i can complain about is that it starts with an airplanecrash, this happened too often in the games i played up to now. But everything else is very entertaining and interesting! The music equals the dramatic atmosphere, the graphics are of course gorgeous and it feels that this game has much more depth and truthfulness - hard to explain, it just feels solidly built and well done - than many others. The story is very surprising - at least, i was surprised and it made one wanting to go on with playing after the demo. For me this is one of the better games of the last time and i am glad, i bought it. January 17, 2016
THIS ADVENTURE ISN'T ANYTHING LIKE THE GAME BEYOND!!! Mad Head delivers another installment of Rite of Passage 5. In Rite of Passage: Heart of the Storm Collector?s Edition Professor Mann sends an e-mail to Chelsea (You), asking her to come and bring his suitcase to the small town he lives ASAP. Chelsea hoped into her plane and rushed there, but when she gets close to her destination "Murdered? carving showed onto the glass of her cockpit and then a ghost destroyed the plane, trying to get the relic from Mann?s suitcase! Chelsea saved the relic and jumped off the plane. She managed to get to the Professor despite the most aggressive storm she had ever seen. The Professor needed the relic for his storm catcher, the only thing able to stop the unnatural weather disaster. Someone was murdered here, burned alive, and his suffering caused the storm to appear, a storm with the vengeful ghosts in its heart! Now you must help Professor Mann set the things right in this epic Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure! I was left amazed and dazed. The gorgeous graphics and flawless voice overs only compliment this original and unique story of changing a negative unfortunate circumstance into an enlightened and positive conclusion. This is a compelling story that will keep you engaged from start to finish because its a captivating and astounding game with loads of intricate obstacles, bonuses and additional tasks. This adventure was relaxing to play and effortless to navigate, which can sometimes be refreshing, when similar games in the genre whose puzzles are so difficult and frustrating you just end up hitting the SKIP button. The creative team deserves recognition for their skills and devotion in developing the latest installment. One example of their brilliance was creating an inter-active hidden object scene where you must use a top and side "slide bar" to focus in on each item before you can click on it. The usual CE bling is all included and the Bonus game IS related to the main story. Demo the experience for yourself. I'm surprised how critical some players are of this edition when all previous Rite of Passage games received 4/5 stars. Enjoy! January 17, 2016
Amazing Okay, so perhaps there is some copycatting and yes some questionable realities, but hey aren't we into these games to have fun? And that is just what this game did for me. I loved all of it, the imagination, the realism and the execution of a story that may not be original but for a computer game, hey, kudos to the developers. I was on the edge of my seat during the storm feeling that every move I had to make needed to be done now!!! Talk about anxiousness! To me it was real, more real than any other game I have played! I do not feel the need to critique the mini games or HOS (although they too were great), the game itself just entertained. There were times however when I hated the interruption of a mini game or HOS, I just wanted to stay with the excitement of the plot! Why get analytical over something that just grabs you and takes you in, please give this one a try, it's gonna get ya! January 17, 2016
On point. First thing I need to say is that the graphics and sound quality are on point. I just love it when the character you play actually has a voice! I enjoyed this game greatly, loved that difficult was actually difficult! I don't get why this game is rated so low because this is one of the best games since Eipix released their last installment of Ravenhearst and Phantasmat. January 17, 2016
Love This Game I am surprised at the lower ratings of this game-I for one love it. What makes it for me is that it is totally logical, the HOS & mini games make sense in their placement & don't interrupt the flow of the game, and while not easy, are doable without using hints or skips. I would suggest doing the demo & deciding for yourself. January 16, 2016
Hey! This is a very good game After a few minutes of the trial, I knew this game was for me. Atmosphere! Rain, wind, lightening! Innovative cut screens and morphing objects. Collectibles. I have no idea why some find this game ho-hum. Not I, said the lady from California. My cup of tea and an instant buy. Thank you to the developers. And the science fiction aspect is intriguing for sure. January 16, 2016
A thrilling ride worthy of movies As my first HOPA game, I'm completely mesmerized! The fun of playing is equal to a great movie but with me in it. I enjoyed the challenges and HO puzzle scenes so much that I had to stop myself from playing too long. And the story is interesting and reminded me of adventure novels I loved so much as a child. I can't wait to see what happens next in the town of Ashen Rise! I'm definitely buying this one! January 19, 2016
Another Great Mad Head Game! Thank you Developers for another great Rite of Passage! Quick purchase for me! Try the Demo to see for yourself. January 17, 2016
