At Least He Died Happy! Johnny Abilli was a player, he loved gambling and he loved women, he loved living his life on the edge, the riskier the better. He believed the filth was rising around him enough to drown, and he was okay with it. Johnny had everything, good looks, good fortune, good money, but Johnny had a wife, and she wanted out. Johnny's luck has turned south, quite literally, his lifeless body has been found aboard his luxury yacht at the Broadbeach Resort in sunny Florida. The problem is, multiple people have multiple motives in this fabulous whodunit mystery! There aren't really any gimmicks in this adventure, but you do have an Evidence Board and the ability to interrogate your suspects searching for evidence to nab the killer. Each scene has a Hidden Sign, for a total of 40, and there are the usual Achievements to earn as well. The Hidden Object Scenes are just okay in my book, a little disappointing because the scenes are all junkpiles and tend to be on the blurry side. They range from listed items to progressive Silhouetted Shape finds, most are multi-layered. You can opt for a Bubble Shoot game if you're not into HOP's. The Mini Games are good, some really easy, some challenging. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo. 1) Find the roads from the traffic report then place the road signs correctly. 2) Develop negatives by following detailed directions. 3) Move the puzzle pieces from the first road to the third using empty color coded slots. This Collector's Edition has 11 Achievements, 40 Hidden Signs, 18 replayable Puzzles, 15 replayable HOP's, Bubble Shoot unlimited, 9 Videos, 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 10 Music Soundtracks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! Great game. I found this game to be almost everything I expected from this developer, who are one of my favorites. The HOP are a little cluttered but all, so far, are interactive which is so much better than just a straight list. I am a little confused though. In the description of the game it says besides collecting signs there are also morphing objects to obtain and so far I have not found a single one. They aren't marked in the strategy guide either. Since this is my favorite item in a game I was very disappointed. I have not finished yet so maybe its down the road somewhere. February 20, 2016
These Dead Reckonings in large part to their retro themes are superb In 2015, Eipix gave us the Brassfield Manor chapter of the Dead Reckoning series. For me that was one of the three best HOPAs of that year. Now we get Broadbeach Cove and this game although totally different in style is the equal to Brassfield in substance. Broadbeach I liken to a "film noir " murder mystery novel or movie prevalent in the 1940's and 50's. Johnny Abilli is a playboy gambler found slain at the titular Florida resort. A detective is sent to investigate the slaying and fortunately for we game players the plot thickens rather quickly. As is often the case, money is at the root of all this evil. The list of suspects grows exponentially and this is just during the demo. There is lots of action at a yacht, the boat landing, a hotel, a beach shack and a few more venues again just during the demo. It's for sure the detective will be wearing out lots of shoe leather what with all the traipsing around required. The hidden object sections are nicely done and there is variety in the offerings. During the demo, I did skip a couple of the puzzles, something I surely won't do after I make a purchase. In a review earlier in the week I stated that collectibles were beginning to be tedious. Not here. There are 40 old style microphones to be had and they are deviously placed. I can appreciate that these items need a good look see to locate them. Players not familiar with the Dead Reckoning series could be missing out on some gems if they are not at least trialed. Eipix has hit a home run with the DR games. February 20, 2016
Good Game Love this! No devils or ghosts! Normal storyline. Pretty graphics. Handsomest man in video games at the start! February 24, 2016
Loved it! I enjoyed this game so much I even played the extra's when I was done! February 26, 2016
DID LIVING ON THE EDGE COST JOHNNY HIS LIFE? You have been called to work on a case in the Sunshine State at the Broadbeach Resort. The victim is the well-known high-roller playboy Johnny Abilli, a man who from his own description has seen it all and is rather bored with life. His only thrill comes from living on the edge and even that has lost its appeal. As you gather the evidence you come up with a resort full of suspects and at the top of the list is a soon to be ex-wife who wants her share of the assets. Step back in time to circa 1950s as you solve the crime and prove once again why you are a master detective. The game options include four modes of gameplay: Easy, Medium, Hard and Custom. In the custom mode the hints can be set to recharge anywhere from 10 to 120 seconds and the puzzle skips can be set to recharge in a range of 10 to 400 seconds. You can also turn of the HOP error click penalty. It should be no surprise that the graphics are excellent as are the voiceovers. Your tools include an interactive map and an evidence board where you collect notes and other objects you find that will help you identify the killer. There are various types of interactive HOPs, some are the standard list type and others are silhouette type. If you don?t want to look for items in the HOPS you have to option to play a bubble shooter type game. There is not much to say other than the game was baked using the same cookie cutter molds that are familiar from this game developer. At one time their games were unique but now they are much the same with the same recycled puzzles even though some have increased in difficulty. The puzzles are still doable without too much effort so there is something here for everyone. If you play every HOPA game released then, like me, you might have that feeling of been here and done that before; however, for all their sameness, I still love HOPA games. The CE content is standard and there are no surprises here either. There are collectibles, morphing objects (although I haven?t spotted them), achievements, strategy guide, wallpapers, videos, etc. You either prefer the CEs or choose to wait for the SE release and that is a matter of preference. Even though there is nothing new here, I love a good mystery and Broadbeach Cove seems to have it all. Finding evidence and sorting through the possibilities is sure to present hours of good old-fashioned sleuthing entertainment. If you happen to love every new HOPA game that comes along you probably hit that buy button as quickly as I did. Even though I love the game, please at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. February 20, 2016
Johnny Be Cool Johnny Be Free Great game. Love the opening sequence before you get to the front page. some of the use of items was kinda cool also. Had some sort of collectible and each time I would be clicking on an area of interest and suddenly something would jump to a little window box on right side of tool bar. I clicked on that to see what it might be that I collected and never could figure out how to view it so I would know what I was looking for. It happen to me at least twice. I like it when they enlarge the collectible before it zooms away. Story line was great with really nice flow to the game. Lots to do and the game kept it interesting. Mix of HO's in the HO. So lots of working HO's finding this and placing it there. The jump map came in very handy this time. This game is defiantly a keeper and goes to the near top of my to buy list. February 20, 2016
A Game for Grown Ups No fairies or portals to other dimensions, just a well done mystery. Not difficult gaming, but the story moves along in a logical manner. Thank you Eipix! February 20, 2016
