Mystery of the Ancients: Mud Water Creek is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tame the vengeful ghost This game is many years old, but wears well because the graphics are high definition and therefore does not look dated. Despite being a ghost story, there are splashes of color and flowers throughout the game. The animation is good. Characters are well drawn, with plausible dialogue and good voiceovers. HOS are on the sparse side, and there are more items to find in order to progress through the story. The mini games are not too hard and there are quite a few match=3 style games to progress, which I find to be a nice break from brain teasers. The game is decently long, but flows really well, with most actions to take logical or easy to intuit. I loved this game and will look into other games in the series. The devs did a really good job with this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Game Play!! I really enjoyed the game play.I liked how it played out. I can say. The game was not too hard, but made you think. It was more of an adventure than HOG, which is what i like. The only issue for me,was the story. I personally like more crime solving games over witches and demons. But it was the best game i enjoyed in some time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun easy going game I enjoyed this game although the storyline is getting a bit old. Actually a bit on the scary/freaky side in some cases. Voice-overs were OK and could get a bit annoying. I turned the music off like I always do. A lot of dialog which you can skip and it doesn't effect the progression of the game. Custom settings allows you to set the hint/skip to refresh very quickly so if you are not a puzzle player like me you can move along with the game. HOS were actually kind of inventive and different and I enjoyed them. Moving around through the different locations was fun although I did feel bad for the boatman at the end. The transporter map was a must as you move from one place to another quite a bit. I found the game to be quite smooth flowing considering all the moving around you do. The hint appears to be a transporter hint also. A lot of things to do as far as putting things together etc. which made the game fun. I got it on sale, but wouldn't feel scammed if I had paid full price. Nice length not too short or too long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE WRATH OF A WOMAN SCORNED Arlene is torn between marrying Bob or continuing to study magic under the town psychic. She seems to have made the wrong choice, or maybe the choice was made for her. Years later, with Bob getting ready to marry Sarah, Arlene returns to take vengeance on everyone. You and your paranormal abilities are here to save the day. This is a good, strong HOG with great graphics and lots of variations in minigames and HOS. I played the demo at the easiest level, so there was an interactive map to move between locations as well as to see where within a location action needed to be taken. The 4 levels of difficulty, including a custom level, make it able for you to set up the game to be exactly how you want to play. My only complaint was it suffered a little with too much back and forth. For instance, you need a screwdriver in the basement of the house. You find it 3 or 4 scenes back at the dock. Too much of that ruins a game for me, but I only noticed it in the extreme this one time. Since there is a CE of this game, I will skip this SE for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE ON After your success solving several paranormal event cases you seem to have a great reputation so it comes as no surprise when you receive a letter from Bob Price asking for your help to find out why there are so many unusual things happening at his estate. It seems like the Bob’s ex-love, Arlene, is not the least bit happy that he seems to have quickly forgotten about her and moved on to a new woman in his life. Things in Bob’s life are going from bad to worse as Arlene doesn’t understand why Bob has so quickly moved onto someone new and she is pitching a fit that would make a two-year old proud. Will you be able to step in and soothe this unhappy spirit and make things better for the inhabitants of Mud Water Creek. The game offers the custom mode of gameplay that I am happy to see more devs offering in their games. Although there are not too many settings to fiddle with, you can still set the hint and skip times as well as get rid of the dreaded tutorial. You have a map that you acquire early in the game as well as a special token that is provided by a mysterious benefactor. The token is what some call a gimmick as you must first play a mini-game each time you need to use it. The HOPS and the mini-games are very good and I found them to be quite enjoyable. Sometimes the HOPS were a bit different and fall into the category of a mini-HOP since you only need to find a certain number of a specific item to complete the scenes. The mini-games are not difficult but I had to fiddle a bit with the one to rebuild the bridge – a puzzle I loved. I purchased the CE and it was much better than I expected. The gameplay had some challenge for me and I did need to think about what to do since all things were not glaringly obvious. All in all, Mud Water Creek is a good game even though it may not one of the best this year. The one thing that put me off is artistic rendering of the scorned woman who is To all of you who loved the previous Mysteries of the Ancients games, I hope this one will be just as terrific. As always, please try the demo to see if Mud Water Creek is a game you will enjoy.
