Surface: Lost Tales Collector's Edition is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's not to like, I'll tell you This is a really fun game although not as good as Virtual Detective. I am actually going to go back and play it again it was that good.. A little bit of a dark parable imo but still really fun. YOu should enjoy this game a lot. As always try the demo first.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Fun This was my 1st Surface game and hope all of them are this Super Fun. I loved the story and all the details. I loved the bobble heads, refrigerator magnets, baby gnome and family, hidden baby bird and mermaid. Only had 5 chapters and I wanted to play more. The Bonus chapter has Halloween Décor and I loved all of it except I couldn't take the whining dog sound. So I had to turn the sound off for a while. Skipped some puzzles. Will play again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really really love this game!!! For me this game hit all the requirements. The graphics were great. I thought the story was an interesting take on the old fairy tales. There were some very subtle eye movements in characters that were priceless. I even liked the bonus chapter and the take on Hansel and Gretel. And wonder of wonders, I really loved the soundtrack. This is one of my biggest complaints of games. I usually have to turn them down or off. This game had some lovely and interesting musical themes that I could appreciate for themselves. It is the first time that I started a game over as soon as I had finished it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "When I look at people I see unusual things" I am taking a quick dip into the pond today to share my thoughts and feelings about Surface: Lost Tales Collector’s Edition, which I also had the pleasure of playing in its beta release. I really enjoy this game very much and have nothing but good things to say about it. First of all, (and I do say this with a bit of personal amazement) I found the HOG scenes to be quite entertaining! Given my older than average eyes, and their less than wonderful vision, I usually do not like HOGs at all. However, Elephant has given us fun, inventive, and original HOPs. They are bright, clear to see, and include a variety of puzzles and mini games within them. While for my personal taste some of the mini games might have been a bit more challenging, overall they were quite fun to play and the puzzles enjoyable to solve. The general adventure aspect within this game of finding items and figuring out when, where, and how to use them was a very nice balance of ease versus difficulty. The games all had clear instructions and were well constructed. The graphics were lovely, with brightly saturated, deeply hued colors. The drawings within scenes were well developed and nicely detailed. There was the added degree of fun that comes from objects and/or creatures responding to clicking upon them, even when they were not in use or part of a problem you were solving. The inventory items were clear and interacted well with their corresponding use in game play. The voice-over acting was good. The soundtrack was interesting and appropriate and the sound effects were entertaining. The story line was interesting and engaging. The game-play options, including a “custom” choice were good. Although I played to the end without using the hint system, I used it on a re-play to evaluate it. it was quite good and indicated an area to explore, rather than a direct solution. I liked having achievements to earn and items to collect. The map was well drawn and I appreciate that it both transports, as well as indicates tasks yet to be accomplished. One of the collectibles in the game is an array of not always easy to spot flowers, for which there is a counter that pops up within a scene each time you locate a new flower. Other collectibles include fairy tale elements that morph and are also a bit of a challenge to locate. Thus it’s nice that the map indicates if collectibles remain within given locations. Overall, this is a very entertaining game, which I recommend highly. HAPPY GAMING! ~B

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST EVER By far the best HOP I ever played. (And I played many!) Finally an expert game with challenging puzzles, lots of variety, every scene a surprise. No repitions, stunning graphis, sounds and not a single bug. Super strategy guide. I could hardly stop playing, but I also wanted to save some for later. Nice lenght, never a boring moment. Thanks Elephant Games and Big Fish...gimme more of these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fairy Tales intact! I love games that involve our most well known Fairytale's and this game captured them all. The mini games were challenging one I even skipped, and I don't normally do that. The HOS's were interactive and fun. The scenery was colorful and detailed, loved it! I wasn't as pleased by the bonus chapter, I had hoped it would pick up where the game left off, instead it went to a missing nurse and who she had become then it was all about darkness and rescuing her. Hansel and Gretel? Not even close. But I still give the creators 5 stars for the detailed scenery and spot on voice overs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You might try and hide…but that pair of glowing eyes, and THAT GRIN…will find YOUUUUUuuuuoooo! – BASED ON COMPLETED GAME- Loved the craziness of this game. Everything was good. Thoroughly enjoyed the first 80%. A game for anyone of any age, since the game does not veer into the territory of creepiness or horror. Which land do you belong to? Are you really who you think or are? Are you sure, or have you forgotten? I’m pleased to announce that YOU ARE SHREK! No, sorry, Shrek is not in this. But lots of princesses are and they don’t even know they are of royal lineage! The graphics were excellent. The HOPS and puzzles were enjoyable. Great sounds throughout and the usual 4 options of difficulty for a 2016 game. There’s a map and the inventory is lockable. There is some interaction with characters on and off. In this the CE, the bonus game is ok but not great. I think the SE would be a great choice, although the little bits of info on the collectible characters did add extra to the game and I’m not sure if you’ll get that in the SE or not. Have fun and say hello to the Cheshire Cat!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On the surface it seems all is lost, but not so! My review is based upon a completed CE version. From Reality to Fairyland--you're side-kick buddy is Cindy's Cat--Cheshire Cat, who just gave his view on the matter from time to time, that's all he did! Cindy Allen is Cinderella, who prevented the Huntsman from stealing the Book of Fairy Tales, but the book sustained some damages and Cinderella vanished into the real world. Our job is to save Fairyland! What a great journey it is! The main character actually is Sophia Alan, aka Black Forest Witch; then you've got Christine Redd, aka Red Riding Hood; Red Riding Hood's cute grandmother with a voiceover that seemed slightly young for the character. These are just a few of the characters whose paths you will cross in this very fine game. Elephant Games did a splendid job with the storyline. Awesome! Regarding one of the voiceovers, I'm not sure if it was a child's voice or not but whomever it was, it was great! The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the gameplay from time to time. I mean the variety of hidden object scenes, puzzles, and the mini-games were truly fantastic, but for me, I prefer using my inventory items fairly quickly. I realize that we'll have items for several scenes but in this case I was nearing the end of the main game before I was able to use it. That makes me a tad nervous and I often get impatient. Having to find five items to complete any given object is annoying as I just want to get on with the new tasks at hand. However, I loved the music and there are five tracks as follows: The Main Theme, which I loved and saved; Hidden Object Theme; Secret Theme which was a softer version of the Main Theme; Danger Theme; and Final Theme. These played throughout the entire Main and Bonus Games. I loved it. I didn't mind the repetition. Kudos to the composer! The graphics were rocking!!! Wow! Loved the artwork, Elephant Games! The collectibles were many and I believe I missed one rose but not having the option to go back to find it was discouraging. Pishshaw! But the game was so wonderful and innovative, I'm giving it a low 5-star rating. The story continues in the Bonus Game with Hansel and Gretel. Loads of fun and great puzzles--some were not that easy either but intriguing. Great job, devs! Appreciate your hard work and ingenuity. I highly recommend this game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Great Surface! I beta tested this game and couldn't wait for it to come out so I could continue to play. The story is a good one (a lot of times I don't pay attention to the stories), graphics are great and the HOS and mini games are fun, some easy, some more challenging. You can customize gameplay which I always like so it's good for beginners or experts. A winner in my opinion!
