Haunted Hotel: The Axiom Butcher 4.1 5 11 11
IS THERE A COPYCAT ON THE LOOSE OR HAS THE AXIOM?S BUTCHER RETURNED Wow, what an amazing game that has now raised the bar for any future games in the Haunted Hotel series. I loved the beta for this game and have been eagerly awaiting its release and now it is finally here! Everything about this game is almost perfect with excellent graphics, top-notch voiceovers, and a great storyline that grabbed me from the beginning. There are interesting and varied HOPS, and fairly challenging puzzles as well to keep things interesting. Just when I was beginning to burn out on HOPA games there is now an exciting game that is geared to the adults who are interested in more than cutesy fairies and princesses. Here is a gritty game with a mature theme and some ghostly scares. It is a dark and snowy night as you are traveling a road in the state of Washington on your way to visit the Axiom Hotel. You are stopped along the way by a patrolman whose car has spun out on the road so you give him a lift to the hotel since that is his destination as well. No sooner do you arrive than things begin to happen that will test your investigative skill. The game has a cast of interesting characters one of which might be a copycat serial killer. Pull out all the stops as you solve interesting mini-games, search for clues in varied HOPS and hopefully find out whom or what is killing the guests at the Axiom Hotel. The mini-games are quite good with some even challenging. I am not going to give you all the spoilers and details since it really is more fun to find out what they entail by playing the game for yourself. There was no way I was going to be able to wait another month for the SE release of this game so I purchased the CE before even bothering to download the demo. I loved every minute of the beta and couldn?t wait to get my hands on this game. There are some creepy and downright scary moments that come together to create what I consider one of the best games this year. The game might not be for everyone so please try the demo to make sure this is a game you will enjoy. May 29, 2016
A must game to have and to be played over and over again. This is the most exciting game I have ever played. The story line, music and challenges are terrific, to say the least. To be perfectly honest, it was great having men as the lead players in this game. Not that I have anything against women, am one myself, but having women in charge most of the time got a little annoying. Let the good games keep rolling in, Haunted Hotel. Am keeping my eyes open for you. May 30, 2016
Great challenge with suspense to boot! Intriguing, challenging and it keeps you on your toes! Great game and I only did the demo on both the regular and the Collector's game. Am buying the Collector's game now because I want to know "Who did it"! May 29, 2016
Awesome I loved this game and rec it highly! July 2, 2016
Exceeded all my expectations! This game knocked my socks off as far as quality. The music, the story, the graphics, the games, all top notch! I hope the game developers take a close look at this one. It raises the bar as to what hidden object adventure games should excel at. June 20, 2016
What a Great Time at the Hotel This is posted after playing the entire game. I really enjoyed this one. Although it did deal with the supernatural, it was more than that. It offered a real story with great games and skill levels that I enjoy. Graphics were excellent. Colors were pleasant and real to life and the sound, including the voice overs were well done. Even the music was very tolerable. I mentioned that the levels of skill were to my liking. I even played most of the mini games. There were a few that didn't make sense to me, but bless that custom difficulty level. I set it to the quickest for hint and skip so it was just matter of hitting that magic button and off I went to the next part. Hidden objects, although nothing new we haven't seen before, were varied and kept my interest. As mentioned there are several degrees of difficulty from normal to custom. I am so glad the developers have about all added that custom one. I enjoyed the story. Even though it did have ghosts, the story had me from the very beginning and even though I figured out what was going on and who the culprit was early on, it still kept me wondering until the very end. Was it the ghost or the butcher returned to seek revenge? Guess you'll have to play to find out. All in all this was a very good game. I'm one of those who likes James and would have liked to have seen more of him, but maybe next time. Give the demo a try and see what you think. It was a buy for me and I swore off supernatural games, so you know there must be something more to this than that. This may very well be my game of the year. June 3, 2016
Who Is the Butcher? Great game with a lot going on. You have a diary that lists all the hotel guests who are trapped by the snow storm. There is the usual map, task list and hint button. The hint button on occasion transports you to a different area. The hidden objects are varied and the puzzles are not too hard. I especially liked the maze near the end of the game -- there are secret places to explore. June 14, 2016
a bit confusing I played the demo and enjoyed it but waited until my credit came to buy so this review is after playing the entire game. There seemed to be a lot of characters in the beginning and I kind of lost track of who they were, who killed them and why they were even in the story to begin with. The story didn't really justify their presence in the game. Story just seemed a bit too choppy, like what was the piano players real part in the whole story. A few loose ends here. There were plenty of HOS for those who completed the game as well as puzzles. I set both the hint and skip to recharge quickly as I'm not much of a puzzle player, but found the puzzles I did play to be not much of a challenge. Got a bit tired of running around to pick up one thing and then another but the transporter map was good and helped the game move smoothly. Colors were dark and some of the HOS were hard to find because of it. HOS were varied, some interactive, some pairing and some straight list. Voice overs were well done. Length was good, not too short or long and the end wrapped up this SE well so you weren't left hanging. June 14, 2016
Not Much Changed after the Demo Unfortunately, this is one of those games that seemed to be epic, one you couldn't hit the "buy now" button fast enough because you wanted to find out more, but it just remained stagnant with no real improvements. By the fourth chapter, I was bored with the tedious tasks of constantly finding trinkets that all seemed similar in nature, in fact, I had a hard time remembering which trinket went where, not because it was difficult, but because they all seemed the same. I expect the Hidden Object Scenes and Mini Games to start out fairly simple and slowly morph into more complex puzzles that challenge your skills, they did not in this case. Don't get me wrong, the storyline is fantastic and the graphics are stunningly over the top, BUT, the game mechanics weren't varied enough to keep my interest, so I'm tweaking my ratings from the Collector's Edition to this Standard Edition after completing the CE and playing the demo of this SE for those reasons. I recently dusted off the first few Haunted Hotel games because I love this series and wanted to refresh my memory of it's beginnings. What I refreshed was the discovery that this series started out horribly! Haunted Hotel I & II aren't even remotely scary, and aren't really about hauntings at all, just weird things happening inside the rooms of a hotel. Luckily for us, things got more hauntingly creepy and this edition is about The Axiom Butcher who has returned from the dead to add a few more bodies to his long bucket list of things he apparently didn't finish before dying! The graphics just keep getting better and better, the crisp computer generated graphics are far superior than it's predecessors, the details are so realistic, which helps to make the gamer one with the surroundings of this creepy Hotel where you check in anytime, but you may not want to check out! The Collector's Edition has 25 Morphing Objects to find (but pretty obvious) 20 Hidden, (but rather large) Crystal Balls which contain some rather unusual items within, and Collectible Tarot Cards which give descriptions about some of the Hotels employee's. There are also the usual Achievements to earn in the Collector's Edition and both editions have plus sign inventory items indicating some type of interaction is required before the item can be used. The Hidden Object Scenes are in a variety of styles, Interactive List, Progressive Silhouetted Shapes, Multiples, Matching Pairs, and even finding items that match the Keywords shown in yellow text during a short story. The Mini Games are a little too easy and stay that way throughout the game, such as selecting and placing dominoes on the empty spaces, each domino should only fit when two matching symbols are placed side by side. or placing 4 torn photo fragments correctly. One plus sign inventory item game required you to click on the bottom flower to connect it with the flowers on the top, that's it, there's no way to get it wrong! The Collector's Edition has 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 4 Music Soundtracks, 18 Achievements, 20 collectible Crystal Balls, 25 Morphing Objects, collectible Tarot Cards, 13 re-playable Mini Games, 15 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, a Secret Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. It's a maybe This game was classified as a HO game, well it's far from it, in the 90 minutes of trial game time we played almost to the end of chapter 3 and all in all there were only 2 HO's scenes. If it's a hidden object game you are looking for I DO NOT recommend this game, other than that it OK but that's about all I can say for it. May 29, 2016
