Haunted Legends: The Iron Mask 4.5 5 6 6
HAVE A SWASHBUCKLING GOOD TIME AS YOU SOLVE THE MYSTERY OF THE IRON MASK n this terrific new Haunted Legends game travel back to 17th century France and come face-to-face with those swashbuckling Musketeers and a host of other characters in the court of Louis XIV. You play the game as an agent of the secret service whom the Cardinal Richelieu has personally called upon to solve the recent murders where the victims all received the same letter accusing them of treason against the King and France. The Cardinal recently received the same letter and now that he is personally a target, it is more important than ever that the ?Man in the Iron Mask? is apprehended. What would a Haunted Legends game be without that signature mischievous little dwarf? Yes he is back and after a recent game that told his story, I have a bit more tolerance for his antics and troublemaking. The question is why is he so involved in chasing down the murderer? You can bet that Vox will be causing trouble and trying to thwart you at every turn. For good measure, throw in the attitudinal cat that is showing up in many recent games from this developer and we have a winner. Although I am not a ?cat? person I can?t help but love this imperious and scruffy cat when he shows up in a game. I am not going to detail all the HOPs and mini-games since most of them are fairly much the same as those we normally see in this type of game. I will comment that in this particular game they are excellent and well-designed. The mini-games have a bit more challenge than usual and even if they are not over-the-top difficult, I found them a lot of fun. Both the mini-games and HOPs fit well with the storyline and made the game better with all that I encountered in my adventure. Haunted Legends Man in the Iron Mask is, at least for me, one of the best in the series. I have always loved the Haunted Legends games and even that little troublesome dwarf doesn?t keep me away from adding each new game in the series to my collection. This game has an engrossing storyline and I was so intrigued by the tangled web that I just had to keep going and find out what ultimately happens to solve the mystery of that ?masked man.? The game has those excellent hand-drawn graphics that make this developer?s games memorable. The bunny team has always been at the top of my list for developers who provide top-notch games and I am happy to see that they are beginning to take a step up to what once made them the premier developer of casual games. You probably already have guessed that I love this game but, as always, please try the demo to see if it is a game you will enjoy. July 29, 2016
Fun game! Has usual an great game I enjoyed the puzzles and story line. The graphics and sounds where very good, but most times I play without sound has the music can become boring. But I do that with all my games. I recommend this game. August 2, 2016
THIS is what it's all about.!! Rarely am I excited enough to come back and write a review, but this is my first game of the "Haunted Legends" series...and I LOVED it.!! WELL worth the money!! It was new and exciting at EVERY turn! The visuals and sound were great. It was FUN.!! The story line flowed well. The HOS were varied and provoked thought. The mini-games, while intense, didn't take a "snowed in Siberian winter" to figure out. Yes!! Do give it a try!! You will be most pleased.!! August 5, 2016
Who Could It Be Now? Seventeenth Century France was a brutal era, especially for those who have been imprisoned in Bastilles. This episode of Haunted Legends centers around one such prisoner, a man who has been stripped of his former identity, his face hidden behind an iron mask, doomed to spend eternity, rotting in prison, and branded with his new identity prisoner number 64389! It's as if he never existed! When the cardinal receives a death threat, you are called in to investigate as a member of the royal Secret Service under his majesty, King Louis XIV. All roads seem to lead to the man in the iron mask, and it becomes abundantly clear that his true identity is being withheld, but why? Who is this man in the iron mask? More importantly, who was this man who was locked inside the iron mask? I must admit, Haunted Legends has upped their game lately with a second spectacular game. Vox, that creepy evil little dwarf with a short temper has returned to make your job even more difficult as he tries to sabotage your every move, but it wouldn't be a Haunted Legend without him! At the beginning of the game you will come across a very important book from Catherine de Medias library. This book has been handed down from the cardinal's to their predecessors for over 200 years, and contains secret and dreadful knowledge. Unfortunately, the books 12 seals have been lost over the years, but as the best agent the SS has, you will surely find all 12 seals throughout your investigation and discover all the horrible details written within it's pages. In the Collector's Edition version you will collect Gold and Silver Horseshoes in each scene that can be used to purchase stable items and tack supplies for your trusty steed. The Hidden Object Scenes have some pretty well hidden objects, and offer a variety of different types. There are scenes requiring you to find matching Pairs of items, Silhouetted Shape Fragments in multiples, and even Silhouetted Shape finds that require you to first find the object that matches the silhouetted shape and then place that item back into the scene where it logically belongs. The only feature I don't like in this series is that many of the scenes are repeated a second time. The Mini Games are actually impressive, some are even available in Casual or Hard modes, another typical feature this series offers. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Press Roman numerals in sequential order. 2) Click owls to bring them all to the center, clicking on one owl may affect others. 3) Swap Chess pieces to match the images on the etched glass. 4) Sort keys and then place them on the correct hooks. 5) Drag the dot through a path without going outside of the lines. 6) Place letters in a pile from most recent to oldest and match the letters to the corresponding daggers before moving them to the pile. 7) Assemble the musketeer and guardian images using the center button to move tiles between them. 8) Complete the emblem by rotating the lock elements, a single button can rotate multiple pieces. 9) Assemble torn letter fragments. 10) Forge the cardinal's signature by using a quill to connect the dots in the correct sequence. The Collector's Edition has replayable Mini Games and Hidden Object Scenes, 7 replayable Movie clips, 3 Music Soundtracks, Achievements, Wallpapers, 6 Screensavers, Collectible Horseshoes, 12 Collectible Book emblems, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! I'm Almost Feeling Sorry for SG This is posted after playing the entire game. Really enjoyed spending a rainy, hot Florida day with this game. Poor ol' SG will just never learn. Graphics were excellent as were the voice overs and effects. The music is pretty much what they have for all the Haunted Legends games, but it wasn't irritating and went along with the action. My only problems with the game were those minis. They were very much WAY past my patience level. With all the pictures to put together and the rest I was so glad they had the custom mode so I could click skip as soon as possible. Those of you who love, what I term, extremely difficult, time consuming mini games, you're going to love this one. Not much new in the hidden objects. There seemed to be a lot of silhouettes at the beginning, but some were just pick them out and others were interactive. Of course there were lists and a mixture of about all of them in one scene. They were challenging in their own right. You have an interactive map which transports you, but it didn't seem to be as helpful as others. I would have nothing left to do in an area and couldn't figure out where to go and would click on the map. There was nothing indicated, so it was hit the hint button until I found someplace. You are able to move the map to see other locations so before you get frustrated, move the map around. There is a lot of skipping back and forth. One thing I did notice that was different from previous versions, were the cut scenes. There was an over abundance of them and they were long. Just seemed strange to me. I won't go into the story. Others have done that and Big Fish sets the scene for you. I will say I was rather disappointed in the ending. It seemed to... well, just end. Other than that it was a good story and was pretty consistent in its telling. So, if you love those hard mini games, and challenging hidden object scenes you are going to love this one. Give the demo a shot and I think you'll like it too. At least there aren't any witches and ghosts. What an improvement over what we've been getting. August 1, 2016
Really Good Until the End I was really enjoying this game until I started running into some things that didn't make a lot of sense toward the end. I can't really explain what the problems were. It just seemed that the game was difficult to follow at times. I would try using an item that seemed to fit the best but it wouldn't work. Then a little later another item would work that I hadn't thought to try because it didn't seem to belong there. Anyway, most of the game was great and a lot of fun. ERS is a favorite developer.
