Haunted Hotel: The Thirteenth Collector's Edition 3.7 5 21 21
SOMETIMES IT'S COMPLICATED First of all, I get where LogieBaby is coming from, this game certainly is "dark" and I too would not have chosen to release this game on Christmas Eve. But, I happen to love "dark" games, and although this game had poor timing, I absolutely love it! It has a fresh storyline, and an interesting plot, something I would have expected more in the Phantasmat series, because.....I'm dead! This is Haunted Hotel's version of the Hatfield's and the McCoy's, where two close families become bitter rivals, both believing their causes are just. Both families became obsessed as they searched for infinate life. They did indeed find an ancient artifact to grant their quest for immortality, but the two families couldn't agree on how this powerful artifact should be used. The Baker family chose darkness, the Barlow family chose light, thus The Son's of Dusk, and The Som's of Dawn were created. The Baker family needs to kill 13 members of the Barlow family, you are number 12, your son Matt, will be number 13, unless you can stop the madness! This Collector's Edition has it all, Morphing Objects, Achievements, hidden Jewels, and Ghostly Portraits to collect that will give you insight on the Baker family tree. You are indeed, dead! You will need energy to be able to pick items up, in the form of a Mini Game of somesort of course. This is a feature similar to the "filters" in the latest Mystery Trackers game. The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with several different types, including Interactive List finds, Keywords in sentences, Silhouetted Shapes and moving items to uncover two identical objects to match. The Mini Games are fairly easy, but there are a couple of trickier puzzles and multi layered puzzles available. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Energy game where you use your ghostly hand to catch energy orbs. 2) Fish a key out of the water by clicking when the ball is inside of the increasingly smaller target red zone. 3) Move the buttons into the correct spots based on their images. 4) Move the blue lock parts from the right and left disks into the center disk using rotation and directional arrows. 5) Collect energy by untangling spectral spheres. 6) Use the hint to complete the combination code. 7) Follow a recipe to make explosive powder. 8) Place all dishes correctly according to the clue . 9) Move the rods so they don't crooss over each other. 10) Arrange arrows so they all point downward, moving one arrow may affect another. This Collector's Edition has: 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 1 Screensaver, 18 Achievements, 4 Music Soundtracks, 12 Collectible Baker Family Portraits, a Jewel Room, 20 Morphing Objects, 20 Collectible Jewels, a Secret Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! The title says it all. Just based on the demo, I found this to be an intriguing story line. It's clearly part of the Haunted Hotel series, and if you read the synopsis, you know what you're getting into before you play. The mini games had just the right amount of challenge, unlike some of the others I've played where you have to have a degree in physics or engineering to figure out. The graphics, while not live action, were very good. 5 stars! December 25, 2016
Something different For the first time in a long time this game made me want to not skip a single puzzle. A slightly different HOP game that I enjoyed enough to want to comment and rate. December 24, 2016
Great game with some new approaches I think this is the best of the Haunted Hotel series and I highly recommend it. This will be a definite buy for me. My only criticism would be to make the puzzles harder. Otherwise, the game is fun and surprising. December 24, 2016
Fantastic. Best game in a long time I enjoyed this game so much that I played it almost nonstop over the course of a day. Modern setting. Spooky themes. A good balance of adventure elements and HOPs. And a fun secret room challenge at the end. December 26, 2016
GET A GRASP ON REALITY IN THIS GAME 6 CHAPTERS PLUS BONUS CHAPTER OVERVIEW: Get a grasp ? on reality that is! Enjoy a 5-star ghost story set in the Baker Hotel in which you, as a ghost, endeavor to save your kidnapped son and find out why you were killed. Search for the motives of the secret cult, Sons of Dusk, at the center of this mystery. Discover the history of your own family, the Barlows, and their relationship to this cult. I do like the gameplay from the demo. The graphics are dark with scenes presented in black-and-white imagery. The lack of color provides a ghostly feel to the game. The pace is excellent with an excellent array of activities and an engaging story. The game should appeal to all levels of gamers; however, some of those who are expert gamers will probably be disappointed by the array of easy puzzles. HOP SCENES: The demo includes the usual HOP scenes including a list of items, a silhouette scene, a matching scene and a storybook scene to give background information for the story. The storybook scene in the demo is beautifully done on a metallic etching. PUZZLES: The puzzles are easy. There are two which are played to provide you energy to perform activities in your ghostly state. In one you collect energy orbs with your hand. This seemed more of a HOP scene to me. The other is a thematic modified rope puzzle. The rest of the puzzles are the usual sliding tiles puzzles to move items into position, matching puzzles for which you are given a written code to solve the puzzle, and an assembly puzzle to create an explosive. There is also a manual dexterity puzzle to hit the red zone on a bar. My favorite puzzle is a modified rope puzzle in which you must untangle rods instead of a rope. Very creatively done and the only puzzle I felt was even slightly difficult. SHOULD I PLAY OR STAY AWAY: If you like easy games with an engaging story, you may like this game. This game is a well-constructed with a good pace. The puzzles and HOP scenes are standard fare with little evidence of innovation or creativity. Still, with an excellent gaming script, it is one to play if only to discover the mystery behind the feuding families and the secret cult. I will purchase this game as an SE. I am too much in the Christmas mood to play a dark, ghostly adventure this weekend. LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore, Custom Hints and Skips: 15 to 90 seconds EXTRAS: Map is provided as you play the game 19 Achievements (From what I could ascertain) Collect 20 Jewels Collect 12 portraits 20 Morphing objects: Replay 13 Puzzles and 16 HOP scenes 10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art, Music, Screensaver, Secret Room HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND MINI-PUZZLES HOP SCENES: A. Silhouette B. Matching. Match up pairs C. Storybook sequence. Excellent use of scene background. Locate items listed in BOLD letters on a metallic etching. D. List of items PUZZLES: A. Collection puzzle. Using your hand, collect energy orbs to restore your energy. More of a HOP scene. Rating: 1 B. Manual Dexterity puzzle. Stop a red ball moving right and left until the slider hits the red zone. 3X. the red section gets smaller with each trial. Rating: 1 C. Sliding tiles puzzle. Slide colored tokens into their proper location. Rating: 2 D. Sliding tiles puzzle. Slide two sets of lock parts into their proper slots in the middle of a garage door mechanism. Rating: 2 E. Rope puzzle. Untangle ropes to restore your energy. Rating: 2 F. Lock puzzle. Open a lock by following a code on a piece of paper. Rating: 2 G. Assembly puzzle. Follow written instructions on the preparation of an explosive Rating: 2 H. Matching puzzle. Move the positions of plates up-and-down to match those on a piece of paper. Rating: 2 I. Rope puzzle. great game i usually don't review a demo i have done but i need to make a comment on something in the demo. i feel sure that matt has been taken away in a Dodge Charger from the 1970's and the refill for the gas is behind the license plate and i had one and it felt strange filing up the tank from the side. it makes sense that unless you know cars you wouldn't know that, but i am just saying..........haha!!! also i like the game. My kind of game I only played the sample version of this game but it was a whole lot of fun. You start out by being murdered. Your son is kidnapped and you go after him. But you get to enjoy all the paranormal activity there is in being a ghost, including scaring the bejesus out of the living. You meet with other murdered relatives and release their souls one by one. It takes energy to handle and move solid objects and you must renew your energy once in a while. There are also spells cast on objects to keep ghosts out, that you must find your way through. Really cool game. January 10, 2017
