Fear For Sale: Hidden in the Darkness Collector's Edition is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love This Series! I can always depend on Fear for Sale for a splendid good time. I enjoy looking for missing people, engaging in paranormal combat, destroying strange creatures, outfoxing the villain. You name it, Fear for Sale delivers! My favorite of the series is Nightmare Cinema, a good bizarre-fest. Hidden Shadows has the ever diligent Emma Roberts, investigating another juicy story. And we know that always leads to lots of excitement and adventure with an ample supply of spooky content to keep us alert and engrossed in a very entertaining game. We have MANY puzzles/games here. Excellent variety, good challenge and I found them interesting even though some were much like those I've enjoyed in other games. There were a great number of HOGs, too, and their interactivity will keep me busy in the typical Fear for Sale style. All the collectibles, achievements, morphing objects are never disappointing. I like the feature that allows your rank to increase with your various levels of achievement, as the game progresses. Except for the always excellent map, Bonus Chapter and Guide, I am never interested in the other extras. The storyline of Hidden in Darkness was solid, uncomplicated and moved along at a comfortable pace. It was scary and held my interest right up to the end. The graphics and coloring were beautiful and everything seemed to perfectly depict Emma's courageous and frightening experience on Drummond Island. The characters were rendered extremely well and the voices and music were very good as well. I don't think you will be bored with this fine installment of Fear for Sale. Here's hoping a good sale will arrive soon to keep our Big Fish budget in the HAPPY fish pond! God Bless....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have the Fear For Sale series on "auto-buy" The beginning of this episode is a bit rough - there's one scene that's utter nonsense - but past that and we're into the high quality game play that the Fear For Sale dev teams always give us. Excellent graphics, plenty of interest and challenges, creepy, weird little creatures that you want to chase down despite your better judgment, morphs, collectibles, all the cool stuff. Some collections cannot be ignored, and Fear For Sale is one of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good Game Review based on completing the first 3 Chapters. Relatively easy to play, the scenery is appropriate for the storyline, the voices were very clear and the music unobtrusive. I am intrigued by the story and can't wait to finish the game. Map - You collect it at the beginning of the game and as per usual these devs include a yellow star once you have found all the collectibles in that scene. It is also very quick at transporting you. 11 Achievements 25 Collectibles - 5 sets of 5 objects and they are all different. 33 Beyond Objects which are in the scenes, not in the HOS. There are 25 HOS and 30 Puzzles in the game which I did enjoy except for the football puzzle. As I have never been a fan of football it did take me quite a bit of time to complete it. The Bonus Chapter is 11 pages long so I am hoping it's of a decent length.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DESTINATION TRUTH: EXTREME SURVIVAL AS A PARANORMAL WITNESS ON THE ISLAND. 6 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter OVERVIEW: What is the scoop on Drammond Island? Inquiring minds want to know in this superb 5-star edition of this series! You, Emma Roberts, investigative journalist, are off on another assignment for the sensational “ragazine,” “Fear for Sale.” Drammond Island is an up-and-coming site for a reality adventure theme park “Abandoned House.” Contestants are given only six hours to search for a hidden treasure. However, within that short time, they disappear! Could the manager, Clarissa Marlow be behind these disappearances or is there a dark sinister plan behind all of this? It seems you may have gotten a little too close to the truth when your brakes are tampered with, sending you crashing into the bay. Tread carefully in this case. Someone is trying to thwart your attempt to get the truth. You will need your survival skills handy when uncovering the truth behind this paranormal case. This is another well-designed game for the series with a cleverly written gaming script. It should appeal to those who love ghost stories, frightening tales of mad scientists and the occult, and those who read the weekly grocery store tabloids. I purchased the game immediately. It is far more entertaining than reading the latest “hit pieces” on the Hollywood stars while standing in the grocery store check-out line. There are an equal amount of HOP scenes and puzzles. There are many extras in this game. You collect twenty-five (25) items – five (5) each of five (5) different themed items. You also collect Beyond Objects (morphing objects) as well. Again, you have a chance to advance through eight (8) ranks of journalistic excellence throughout the game. The graphics are cartoon-like and fit the theme of this paranormal thriller. HOP SCENES: There are 24 in the game. You can play a jigsaw puzzle in lieu of the HOP scenes. They are standard fare and most are lists of items. However, there are a couple of unique ones. In one scene, you locate items in a crime scene, and upon clicking on them, they return to their original position. In a storybook scene, you locate items within the scenes and then place them items within blanks in the storybook which changes them to words. PUZZLES: There are 30 in the game. The puzzles are all easy except one which I found slightly more difficult. There are quite a few of what I call manual dexterity puzzles requiring you to drive a boat while avoiding obstacles in your path, moving a large green circle to avoid it being attacked by red circles, and moving dials to restore a picture. Other puzzles include a “spot the differences” puzzle, an assembly puzzle and a maze puzzle. The difficult puzzle involves connecting numbered buttons in a continuous line. Each button contains either a number one or two to indicate how many spaces the line will be moved. LEVELS: Casual, Normal, Hard, Custom Hint: 10 to 35 seconds Skips: 10 to 50 seconds EXTRAS: Strategy Guide: 45 Pages Map is provided as you play the game 11 Achievements Collect 25 items (5 each) for Greed, Spiritualist, Freelancer, Magic, Lust for Power 33 Morphing objects 8 Journalist ranks 24 HOP scenes and 30 Puzzles 9 Wallpapers, 11 Concept Art, 3 Screensavers, Music HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND PUZZLES IN SEQUENCE HOP SCENES: You can play a jigsaw puzzle in lieu of the HOP scenes. A. Silhouette. Locate items in a crime scene, click on them and they return to their original locations. B. List of items. C. List of items. D. Multiple step. Locate 5 of the same item opening a list of items to locate. E. Storybook. Replacement. In a book, fill in the blanks with the correct items. F. List of items. PUZZLES: (1) Easy 2) Moderate difficulty (3) Difficult A. Spot the differences. Locate differences between two pictures. Rating: 1 B. Logic Puzzle. Calculate the sequence of numbers to open a lock based on a given code. Rating: 2 C. Manual dexterity puzzle. Drive a boat to avoid obstacles in your path. Rating: 2 D. Manual dexterity puzzle. Move a VERY LARGE green circle avoiding red dots. 2X Rating: 1 E. Manual dexterity puzzle. Move dials on a control unit to move two segments to restore a picture. Rating: 1 F. Assembly puzzle. Combine symbols on fingers to match up with those appearing on the hands. Rating: 2 G. Connection puzzle. Connect all numbered buttons on a grid in a continuous line. The number indicates (1 or 2) how many buttons will be connected. Rating: 3 H. Maze puzzle. Create route for a soul vessel to leave the maze being certain to pick up every soul along the paths. Rating: 2

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHAT LURKS IN THE SHADOWS ON DRUMMOND ISLAND In Fear for Sale Hidden in Shadows the ninth game in the series, you once again play the game as Emma Roberts an investigative journalist for Fear for Sale magazine. In your latest case it seems like young people have gone missing in the town after playing a reality game. Linda Swan is one of those missing and her spirit has contacted you for help. Perhaps it is too late for Linda but you are still determined to find out what is happening. Your clues lead you to Drummond Island but it is not too long before you find you are definitely in over your head. Your tools include and interactive map that I happen to really find valuable. Not only does the map show where you have tasks available but it also indicates where you might be missing some of the collectibles or morphs. The HOPS are not anything special but I happen to really like the standard list type scenes. There is something comforting about searching for items when I happen to know what they are without too much of a guessing game. Each scene does have some interactivity and yes, there are some different types where you must find items scattered around in a pop-up box. The puzzles are good but not mind-numbing difficult. In fact most are a bit easy but I happen to like most of the ones included in the game. If you prefer the CE version of a game this one includes a lot of extra content with collectibles and morphing objects hidden in each scene. As in other Fear for Sale games you have different levels of achievement and your rank keeps going up as you play the game. Other collectibles are the standard fare with Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Strategy Guide, and Bonus Game I love games from this developer and own all of the games in the Fear for Sale series. Most of the early games are excellent and the later games have included one of two that I didn’t care for but overall they are mostly excellent with Nightmare Cinema being perhaps my favorite. This latest game Hidden in the Darkness is a spook fest and very good. I like the way the storyline develops and by the end of the demo I knew this game is a keeper for me. Actually, I was sucked in fairly early in the game and it only gets better as I move forward. Now with a cliffhanger end to the demo I want more. Please try the demo to see if you will enjoy Hidden in the Darkness as well.
