Phantasmat: Mournful Loch Collector's Edition is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spooky, Solid Game This would have made a great Halloween game. We have a spooky castle, a possessed family, an ancestral murder or three, plenty of play, plenty of puzzles. Pros: great environment even if we're pretty much inured to spooky castles by now. Very nice graphics if a bit dark. Lots of puzzles, some quite original. Music is appropriately scary. And someone is whispering to the player in the background. Cons: not a lot. It's a redeem-the-ghost-souls plot and so the player does fall into a predictable pattern by the third go-around. Plot resolution is a little ambiguous - we've identified the villain but we're not sure what we actually accomplished along the way. Quite a lot of back-and-forth but the map is very useful. At times the cut scenes are annoyingly frequent. Climax was not very climactic but enough threads were unraveled to make it satisfying. Overall, a very solid game with plenty of play and some fun puzzles. Very spooky atmosphere. I like this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's not to like, I'll tell you This is another hit in the Phantasmat series. It may or may not be your favorite in the series but you will still love the game play. Eipix is generally great anyway. You are stranded on an island and you have to figure out the usual hidden clues to stop an ancient curse. Sounds a bit redundant because it is but that does not detract from the game one bit. I highly recommend this 5 star game but one warning; this is not a very long game imo. Could have added some more game time. For the money I would have liked to have a little more game. But its worth the buy anyway.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from REALLY GOOD GAME!! I'm really enjoying this game. I beta tested the game, but forgot to write on my paper what I thought of it. So, have downloaded the demo like most of you and feel I'm playing it for the first time. I think it has a very good atmosphere, music, and effects. It definitely feels spooky to me, which are my favorite games. I am also enjoying the mini-games and HOS. I don't usually enjoy mini-games and most of the time just skip them if they are too challenging. But these are different, so I'm giving them a try. Like some of the other reviewers have said, if you don't try to connect this game with the earlier Phantasmat games, I think you will enjoy it also. I feel the developers did a great job on this game. Give it a try, maybe you will like it also. Happy Gaming Fellow Fishies! :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Puzzle Heavy & Creepy Throughout Based on Main & Bonus Games Eipix turns out a great creepster game, with melancholy music, visual gotchas, eerie scenery, and sinister plot. Illustrations are vivid and plentiful, characters are malevolent, and the setting is well, yeah, mournful. Gameplay is smooth, voice-overs are good, and my fave, the underwater scenes, are well-done. Adventure is good, with only a couple times I was unsure where to go next. Puzzles outweigh HOs, and most are easy to moderate. Only one was aggro. HOs are varied, and include morphs and lists. Traditional HO fans won't be disappointed. There are 21 morphs in scenes, main & bonus included. You can go back and find any you missed in Extras. CE bling includes replayable HOs & puzzles, the souvenir room (a mini collectible hunt), achievements and the usual. The main game is 4+ hours, the bonus game short at about 45 min, both in hard mode. The bonus game carries the story a bit further, but I thought it was a little skimpy on adventure. Is it worth a CE? Wellll, I really thought the main game was the meat & potatoes of the CE, so I'm hesitant to give an unqualified yes. If you like Phantasmat or horror games, and like Eipix bling, it may be worth it to you. Otherwise, the SE may be good enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's Up With That Boatman? I usually don't get too excited about Phantasmat games because they are so dark and gloomy. But this one got my attention due to the locale and deep sea theme. This type of story is so mysterious and eerie, and going to a watery grave adds a certain sadness. Being an archeological student is hard work and discoveries are exciting, but this assignment quickly becomes very dangerous. It's a journey into the dark world of angry ghosts, trapped spirits, ancestral mysteries, hidden relics. And let's not forget about that creepy boatman who always disappears at a very suspicious time. What is he up to? By the time I got beyond the castle doors, I was just plain tired of all the locks and gadgets and tasks blocking my way. Gaining entry was tiresome. I wanted the actual story to get going so I could be entertained instead of bored! The puzzles in the demo were okay, but I did not like the one with the skeleton teeth. The others were of average challenge with a little frustration thrown in. The HOGs were fairly complex which I really enjoyed and the one with all morphing objects was not too challenging but a lot of fun. There was another type of game available to replace the HOGs if so desired, but I have never checked it out. I didn't take time to investigate any of the extras being offered, but Phantasmat games are notorious for supplying us with big bundles of fun stuff to collect and achieve. I earned several trophies in the demo but don't know what I had accomplished. The graphics were kind of disappointing, they were all dark and dismal. The colors and dim visuals, were to me, a big dreary picture of something terrible that happened. But I imagine that was the exact intention of the artists and creators of this particular story. I only hope the entire game isn't like this. There has to be a ray of light somewhere. Right? Maybe even an underwater flashlight?? With only 2 characters in the demo, not much to describe. I basically saw only the hands of the student. And the boatman was depicted extremely well, oozing with creepiness. I wanted to see other characters, like ghosts or sea creatures or disgruntled pirates, etc. I was unhappy with the demo because there wasn't enough action to fill a teaspoon. Phantasmat is extremely popular with so many gamers, I'm thinking maybe this installment is just off to a slow start and will improve as it progresses. Can't imagine it failing to be a winner like the previous editions. It is a great storyline for sure and one I would normally enjoy a great deal because of the subject matter. But until I read more reviews from those who have actually played the game, I'll be on the fence with this one. And I'm not giving a thumbs down, either. I think it will end up getting a 5 star rating from most of the reviewers. God Bless....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "LOVE THIS SERIES" I'm a huge fan of any game with boats and at sea or lakes....any water involved. Although, I really think the graphics and animations are great. Of course, we've seen the story line so many times. Especially for long in the tooth players....like myself. LOL I recommend this game. Are the sequels as great as the original, in this Series? Of course not. But, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it. I've yet to find a sequel to stand up to the original. If someone has...please let me know. As always try the demo....you never know if it will catch you up in it's net or not. LOL I've also learned over the many years of buying games...if you don't like it at first try...go back when your mood has changed. I find with myself that I've like games the second time I've tried it, and not like games on the second time I've purchased and played it. Mood matters. Enjoy, Lisa

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE DEFINITION OF PHANTASMAT: HALLUCINATION OR ILLUSION=ARE THE APPARITIONS OF LOGAN'S CASTLE REAL? Logan's Castle is the Crown Jewel of Scotland, infamous for the Logan Family Massacre, and the evil entities left behind. He who dares to enter, will surely perish, after all, several have tried and failed to return! The entire Logan family was brutally murdered and their family artifact was stolen, an artifact so valuable, they were willing to sacrifice their lives. No one knows what became of the artifact, but if your suspicions are correct, it may be in the loch that surrounds the castle grounds. You're in too deep now however, and someone or something, doesn't want you to find the artifact, in fact, it seems they don't want you to live at all, or are you already dead? Phantasmat is my favorite series, and no other game has EVER been able to write a storyline as Phantastic as the original Phantasmat, period. One of the reasons I love this series is because the storylines are always really good, and original, and I never know if I'm alive, or dead! Mournful Loch isn't as good as as the last couple of games in the series, but I'm confident this will be a solid game from beginning to end. Another feature I love about this series is that I can always count on the Collector's Edition version to have Morphing Objects (and not just within the HOP's which most games have switched to) The Hidden Object Scenes are multi-layered with different types such as Interactive List Phinds, Silhouetted Shape Phinds, Sketch Phinds, Multiple Phinds, and even Morphing Object Phinds, one of my personal Phavorites. The Mini Games range from simple to complex, many of which are new or different versions. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Press arrows to move the tiles and arrange them so they match the clue shown. 2) Use the knobs to move the sliders to select pairs that comprise each symbol. 3) Select tusks to repeat the sequence shown. 4) Drag the sliders to move and focus the telescope to find the required symbols. 5) Move the teeth to the correct color coded sides using skeletal hands to move and select two teeth at a time. 6) Set the symbols on the pillar so they match the clue shown. This Collector's Edition has 15 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 16 replayable Mini Games, 8 Concept Art pictures, 8 Wallpapers, 5 Music Soundtracks, a Souvenir Room, 11 replayable Videos, 12 Achievements to earn, 21 Morphing Objects, Collectibles, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREED IS A POWERFUL VICE Phantasmat Mournful Loch is the eight game in the Phantasmat series which, IMHO, is probably 6 games too many. I loved the original Phantasmat games but as we continue to deal with sequel after sequel in a once popular series the games take a downhill turn and lose their original appeal. In this game we see a bloody massacre in the opening scene and if that wasn’t enough to put me off, the mournful and somber graphics rather tipped me over the edge. In all honesty, Phantasmat has never been my favorite series and the latest games in the series have seemed rather dreadful. Please understand that this is just my opinion. The game is going to hold a great deal of appeal for many gamers and is a top quality 5-star game in many respects but just not for me. I have become rather tired of dreary dark games with decaying buildings and dark, gloomy scenery. In Mournful Loch you play an archaeology student who has been researching a lost artifact of the Logan family. As you embark on your journey your boatman is telling you that “greed is a powerful vice” and that it has lured many a treasure seeker to the loch, none of whom have returned. Not long after that your boat capsizes and you awaken on the shore of the loch. For a researcher you are probably super focused on your project, but perhaps you should have noticed that something is a bit off with your boatman. Graphics – Excellent but dark and gloomy, Gameplay Settings - Easy, Medium, Hard, and Custom. Hints: 10 to 120 seconds, Skips: 10 to 400 seconds. Your tools include an interactive map. There is not really anything new with the HOP scenes although there are some very creative touches. For the most part the scenes are well designed and several are very interactive. It is only my opinion, but I think the game shows that EIPIX is stepping up their game and at least making an honest effort to keep gamers happy. Puzzles seem to be the forte for this developer and the ones in this game are excellent. There is one tricky puzzle that I have never seen before and it is truly genius. The puzzle involves moving tiles to find certain symbols that are hidden under several tiles. I found it a ton of fun and quite tricky. If you prefer the CE version of a game, this one includes: Morphing objects to find, achievements to earn, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Videos, Play Extra HOPS, Play Puzzles, Strategy Guide, Bonus Game, and Souvenir Room. Although the game has some excellent moments, I am not sure it is for me but I know that many will find this latest Phantasmat to be a cut above the others. If I was really fond of the underlying Phantasmat theme I might be inclined to purchase the game but the overall graphics are what put me off the most. Honestly, while I was playing the demo there were jump scare moments that I didn’t see coming. My little dog usually is on my lap when I play and one time when I jumped she took off like a flash. Even though I am still not sure this game is for me, I can highly recommend it for those of you who love scary, ghostly tales. As always, I recommend you try the demo to see is Phantasmat Mournful Loch is a game you will enjoy.
