Dark Dimensions: Vengeful Beauty Collector's Edition is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! I know there were a lot of negative comments about things such as inaccuracies of treating a wound but I didn't care! It was a fun and creative way instead of finding a saw to cut a branch, grabbing some smelling salts, etc. Whoever wrote the first aid manual was certainly creative. This Dark Dimensions had some creative new ideas and the gameplay was fun and the puzzles were a good mix of ones I liked and ones I hated (toggles!! mirrors and light beams, math) and the really good news was that I was able to set skip and hint to ONE second! I didn't play their match 3's because I was having too much fun playing the HOs. So glad I gave this present to myself for Mother's Day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Enjoyable Game! I always take into consideration when writing a review that it is only a game. Most games such as this game are done IMO to have fun and enjoy the story, graphics and sound. This game I found to be really excellent to in all areas. I could not wait to find what was going to happen next and how it would end. The graphics are beautiful. The beauty of the flowers never grew old. Excellent hidden object with a great story! As always please try the demo. Enjoy and have fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from MISSING PERSONS, MAGICAL VINES, HELICOPTER CRASH..THIS GAME HAS IT ALL I loved the demo so much, I had to buy it. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and just when I thought they were getting away...crash! You assist park rangers in a missing persons case and end up being dragged down by monstrous, magical vines. How will it end? I'll let you know. The visuals are very well done and the music is perfectly matched, right down to the opening credits by one of my favorite developers. The storyline is good and has really yet to be revealed, but gave me enough to want to know more. The challenges were just right for me and I'm excited to see more. Thanks. Mia :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just who is this vengeful beauty??? I beta tested this game quite a while ago. The interval between the beta and the game release is much longer than usual. I figure the game either had too may bugs that needed patching or some other factor such as a story line improvement was called for. At any rate this edition of Dark Dimensions is thankfully available and given how many second and third rate games have been foisted upon us recently, Vengeful Beauty is a definite sight for sore eyes. The story line is OK since we have had many others in its ilk. Among factors seen many times we have: a park setting, alien and dangerous plants, friends of the game main character kidnapped. The interesting aspect of this story is we are not given even a clue as to who the villain is. Is it the aforementioned vengeful beauty? If so, who is she and why is she so bent on destruction? This alone compels me to look further into the game. The look of the game is better than average as it is nicely drawn. A minor drawback is the lack of lip movement when characters speak. Sometimes the main character asks a question and I wish that character were also given a voice. It bugs me when I only see a written question. Game Play: In this game what needs completion via HO segments and puzzles is extremely well done. There are quite a few challenges in both areas. One HO that is cool requires finding 5 flowers and 5 ravens, some of which are cleverly concealed and then using them to provide a word list and then locating various items which need placement on the game screen. Some of the puzzles ( at least in the demo ) are tricky although they are of varieties seen in lots of games. For the collectible lovers there are green disks to find yet I elected to not seek them out. If there are any other collections and/or morphs, I found none. For me collectibles are extraneous to the game in most cases. 2017 hasn't been a banner year thus far so to be awarded a superior game at any point is not to be taken lightly. While I have not been a fan of lots of other chapters in the Dark Dimension saga, this one is a top-notch rendition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YOU CAN RUN BUT CAN’T HIDE FROM THE INVASION OF THE MUTANT PURPLE VINES! 5 Chapter plus a Bonus Chapter. Strategy Guide – 50 pages Evacuate! It is a national emergency in this 5-star game! Be prepared for the “Attack of the Purple Vines!” Deep within a hidden research lab, Vandersleigh Institute, top secret research has produced some mutant purple plants! There is something devious about these plants – they seem to be tied to the Dark Dimension and perhaps can even take over people’s minds! Yikes! You have been called in by your friends to investigate the case of “Flora gone Wild” in this facility. Can you save humanity from the invasion of mind-altering plants? Help! I purchased this game. I hope I survive! This is a campy game. The graphics are cartoon-like. It should appeal to sci-fi lovers. The story is reminiscent of the 1950’s “B” sci-fi movies with or some alien element invading earth. In this case, that element consists of large mutant plants orchestrated probably by some mad scientist. The collectibles are lab equipment and morphing jigsaw puzzle pieces. They are not easy to locate. HOP SCENES: The HOP scenes are normal fare which we see in most games. Some of the scenes do demonstrate some creativity. You also have the option to play a Match-3 game in lieu of the scene. There are a couple of storybook scenes in which you search for items in BOLD letters. There are lists of items and in one scene you replace items back within the scene. PUZZLES: All the puzzles are easy. I do not find any of the puzzles challenging. Some of them are thematic reflecting the “scientific” aspect of the game. There is a puzzle which requires recreating a sound wave pattern on an oscilloscope. There is also a pipe puzzle involving gasoline. A switch puzzle requires you to switch tokens on a circuit board so that rows and columns do not repeat the same token. There are couple of connection puzzles which are somewhat creatively produced. In keeping with the blue/purple theme, you lead a magnet to turn all flowers a funky bright bluish purple! MY ONLY PROBLEM (BESIDES BIG PURPLE VINES): You are asked to place an image into its proper location on a series of stones. I found it difficult to assess the images on the stones to calculate where to place the image. LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hard, Custom Hints and Skips: 1 to 100 seconds EXTRAS: Map is given to you as you play the game. 25 Achievements Collect lab equipment Collect morphing jigsaw puzzle pieces for four puzzles 11 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art, Music HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND PUZZLES IN SEQUENCE HOP SCENES: You can play a Match-3 game in lieu of the scene. A. Silhouette. Items must be found in sequence. B. Storybook. Find items listed in BOLD letter. C. Another storybook. Locate items in BOLD letters. D. Locate 5 each of two items followed by a list of items to locate E. Search and replace. Locate 5 each of two items opening a list of items. These items must be located then returned to the right position within the scene. PUZZLES: (1) Easy 2) Moderate difficulty (3) Difficult A. Manual Dexterity puzzle. Using a slingshot hit the mark to knock down a bag. Rating: 1 B. Sequence puzzle. Light up a series of skulls by pulling on the skulls in sequential order until all are lit. 3X. Rating: 1 C. Matching puzzle. Recreate a sound wave pattern on an oscilloscope. Rating: 2 D. Manual dexterity puzzle. Move a bullet through a maze created by a rather large purple plant until it reaches the bottom. Rating: 1 E. Connection puzzle. Take a magnet and run it through maze created by portraits, connecting them without crossing lines. Rating: 2 F. Sliding tiles. Slide tiles into position so that they match up with the image underneath them. Rating: 2 G. Assembly puzzle. Place a given image into its proper location on a series of stones. Rating: 2 H. Connection puzzle. Move a series of crystals so all flowers surrounding them turn blue. Rating: 2 I. Switch puzzle. Switch tokens on a circuit board so that each row and column do not have a repeat of the same token. Rating: 2 J. Matching puzzle. Choose symbols on runes which have no matches. Rating: 1 K. Pipe puzzle. Switch valves to allow gasoline to flow to the tanks above it. Rating: 2

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEWARE OF VINES ON STEROIDS In this new Dark Dimensions game Vengeful Beauty, you play as Edward Jones who has a lot of experience with unusual phenomena and dark dimensions. Your friends Linda and Carter who are part of a research and rescue team at Vanderleigh Institute have called on you to help them investigate missing people and the unusual growth of flora in Oldforester National Park that is run by the institute. When you and your friends arrive you encounter a problem with huge vines that attack you and your companions. During the attack you fall from a cliff and must treat your injuries before you can search for your friends, a task that will test your abilities as you deal with another “dark dimension.” Your friends are in obvious danger but will you be able to rescue them in time? The graphics style is excellent with some gorgeous hand drawn artwork. On my computer the graphics are very crisp and crystal clear. There is an interactive map in the game but you do not acquire it until you overcome some initial obstacles. The HOP scenes are excellent and very well designed. There are several storybook style scenes and they are different than usual and very creative. Although I don’t generally like the storybook scenes I found myself enjoying them a lot, particularly the scene in the Park Visitor Center. Some of the scenes include a combo of the storybook and list types. This Magic team has stepped-up and created a new Dark Dimension that I find terrific. The puzzles are varied and I find some challenging, although doable by taking my time. Of course there are easy puzzles as well but I think there is a good mix between the easier and the more difficult puzzles. If you prefer the CE version of a game this one includes Collectibles, Puzzle Pieces (that I found difficult to spot), and Morphing Objects to find. Of course you can earn achievements as you play the game as well. The more or less standard extras include Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Videos, Bonus Game, and a Strategy Guide. A few years ago I began to dislike the Dark Dimensions series and wasn’t eager to beta test the game but as the game’s release drew near I decided to give it a try and was definitely surprised that I found myself enjoying the game. It seems that this Magical team has reinvented itself and has recently produced some excellent games. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the full game today and am so thrilled with Vengeful Beauty. Since not all gamers enjoy the same things, please try the demo to see if this latest addition to the Dark Dimensions series is one you will enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plenty of Puzzles, Plenty of Play I beta'd this game no less than twice, so there were apparently some issues in the earlier versions that the devs managed to straighten out, because game play was smooth and there was plenty of it. Pros: Sharp graphics, quite lengthy chapters, lots of puzzles, some fairly challenging although not all for the right reasons There were some innovative means of exposition - the park interactive screen, for example. Cons: certain puzzles - the windstorm gear puzzle comes to mind, as does the painting puzzle - were overly sensitive and the rules in the latter were neither clear nor consistent. These are more mechanical issues than conceptual. Characters were introduced and then dropped, never to be seen again. Overall, though, a pretty good value for the buck in terms of game play. And for those who help beta these things: the devs do listen on a couple of details I won't share here. It makes the effort worthwhile.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ATTACK OF THE EXTREMELY PURPLE VINES Dark Dimensions have returned in the form of deadly vines, that are taking over the Oldforester National Park. (wow, they're really purple) Your colleagues and personal friends, Linda and Carter Cole have asked for help, investigating this strange phenomenon.(strange because they're purple) The investigation turns deadly, in the blink of an eye, when the entire group becomes entangled by the vines, (did I mention how purple they are?) seemingly capable of conscious thought, and certainly capable of revenge. Where did these (really purple) vines come from, and why are they seeking revenge? (why are they so purple is the real question) In my opinion, Dark Dimensions have only had two epic games in the series, City of Fog and Wax Beauty. Vengeful Beauty is certainly better than the last game offered, Blade Master, but the storyline isn't great, and the graphics are too purple to take seriously. Dark Dimensions should be about Dark entities, not purple entities, and certainly not about killer purple vines. If I were to create a Dark Dimension game, I wouldn't reveal the "monster" during the demo at all. Wouldn't this game be creepier if people were disappearing right and left, but you never saw it coming, you never knew what entity was taking your friends? The Hidden Object Scenes are plentiful in this demo, which is a brave move, because there are a ton of people who love HOPA games for the mini games and the adventure, but are no longer impressed with the HO's. The reason for this is simple, the Hidden Object Scenes aren't what they used to be. They used to be filled with objects that were challenging to find because the objects were blended into the scenery in disguise, nowadays, they are just junk piles of objects piled on top of one another, not hidden in the least bit. Most of these HOP's are Interactive list finds that open up after 5 objects of 2 different kinds are found. There are also Keywords in sentence finds and Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds available, as well as an alternate Match 3 game. The Mini Games are decent and offer a fair amount of challenge with most. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Click on skulls to light all of them, in a three part game. Clicking on one skull may affect others. 2) Recreate the sound wave pattern shown on the clue by adjusting 4 different buttons. 3) drag a bullet through a path without touching the edges. 4) Connect all portraits by clicking on all portraits with a single line. 5) Remove vines in a specific order. 6) Arrange the stones so they match the the runes shown on the slots underneath them. 7) Drag each item in the center to one of the stones to complete the images. Other Available Dark Dimension Games: City of Fog (11/11) Wax Beauty (4/12) City of Ash (6/13) Somber Song (3/14) Homecoming (2/15) Shadow Pirouette (10/15) Blade Master (6/16) This Collector's Edition has Morphing Puzzle Pieces to assemble 4 different Puzzles, 15 Collectibles to assemble 3 Devices to research the DD flora, Developer Diary pictures, 10 Concept Art pictures, 11 Wallpapers, 25 Achievements to earn, 4 Music Soundtracks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy!
