Hidden Expedition: Midgard's End 3.7 5 9 9
The End Or Just The Beginning? Freyja is the Nordic goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, war and death. She rides a chariot pulled by two cats with a boar by her side. Freyja rules over the heavenly afterlife and receives half of those who died in battle (the other half go to Odin's hall) and has been known to help deities who often use her cloak made of falcon feathers. Freyja's husband is often absent which saddens the goddess, causing her to weep red gold tears for him. It is those tears that are capable of destroying the world and even the gods themselves, and those tears are being sought out by someone within the SAGA organization who will go to great lengths to find them. This is going to be the most crucial case the H.E.L.P agency has ever embarked upon, the world depends on you to to stop these madmen before they reach their destination, Midgard's End! Looks like we're going to have to step up our game, because Sam has just been promoted! This is quite literally the best Hidden Expedition to date, just when you think this series couldn't get more action packed and intense, they up their game. As with all Hidden Expedition games, there are collectible Fact cards that give you interesting facts about items associated with the theme. In the Collector's Edition there are 43 Hidden Signs, one in each scene to find throughout the game, as well as 13 Achievements to earn. The Hidden Object Scenes are extremely entertaining and take place in some unique places with unique features. There are Interactive List finds, Sketch finds and even items to find from keywords in a speech given. The Collector's Edition also offers a Morphing Object in each HOP to add a little challenge. My favorite was finding and interacting with items by opening up different rooms of a miniature house. The Mini Games present a nice challenge as well, below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Connect all the nodes without crossing lines. 2) Move boxes to their correct positions, boxes can only move in the direction they are pointing but they can move other boxes into place or change directions by landing on a cog. 3) Plot a course on a map using directional arrows. 4) Rearrange wires using clues shown to cause a short circuit in the Cabaret. 5) Arrange Queens on a chessboard so that no queen can be taken by another either straight or diagonally. The Collector's Edition has 17 replayable Puzzles, 15 replayable HOP's, 11 Videos, 8 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art Pictures, a Souvenir Room, 13 Achievements, collectible Fact Cards, 15 Morphing Objects within the HOP's, 43 Hidden Signs, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! AN EXCELLENT HIDDEN EXPEDITION FULL OF TWISTS AND TURNS Get ready for an exciting new Hidden Expedition as you discover the secret that Dr. Schumann fpomd24 years ago. As a top H.E.L.P. agent you will work with Sam to uncover the mystery of Dr. Schumann?s work. Things really get off to a bang in Midgard?s End as the bullets start flying and there is a theft at SAGA headquarters where Dr. Schumann?s daughter, Helen, is giving a lecture to a group of future H.E.L.P. agents. Trek across Europe and Scandinavia as you play this wonderful and exciting new Hidden Expedition that will at times leave you holding your breath and at others solving challenging puzzles and searching for hidden objects that will help you in your adventure. Of course with the game coming to us from one of the best casual game developers you know the graphics, sound and other technical aspects will be top-notch. The game has a custom mode of that allows you to tinker with various options to set the gameplay just the way you want. Hints recharge in a range of 10 ? 120 and mini-game skips in a range of 10 ? 400 seconds. You have an interactive map that is present at the beginning of the game. You also have the H.E.L.P. toolbox where you can find your objectives and store information. The HOPS are excellent and at least one of them seems new in style. The HOPS are much better than in the past and I found them quite enjoyable. The mini-games are excellent and not as easy as they appear at first glance. Some of the mini-games are this devs favorites such as placing queens on a board so that they are safe from attack by other queens. I found some of the mini-games to be more difficult than usual so at least this dev has heard the call for more difficulty in their HOPA games. With great HOPS and terrific mini-games Midgard?s End is a worthy entry for the Hidden Expedition series. IMHO, this is one of the best Hidden Expedition games and it is probably one of the best games I have played in several months. The game is exciting and gets of to a fast-paced beginning and holds the momentum as I played through the demo and beyond. After playing the game?s beta release, I have been waiting for it to hit the BFG market. I love this game and as I mentioned above think it is one of the best Hidden Expedition games ever. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. July 1, 2016
Tears of Hel Great, long SE game with varied hidden objects and very challenging mini-games. There are four levels of play. I especially liked the informational CD's about the Viking history, Greenland and Global warming. July 29, 2016
Is it Really Hel on Earth... This is posted after playing the entire game. This is another hit for the Hidden Expedition series. I've been waiting for what seems like an eternity for the SE to come out and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed playing with just one exception. I am going to replay the game to see if I can over come that exception as soon as I am finished writing this, but I wanted to give my first impressions, before I go at it again. As usual, the graphics were very good and the sound quality was top notch. Effects when along with the action as did the music. I said there was one exception from loving this game and really liking it. That would be those cursed mini games. They were either over my head or way past my patience level. I found them extremely difficult and only completed a couple of them. Some times I just could not understand what I had to do. Hence the second attempt here shortly. I wish instead of offering a secondary game like match 3 instead of hidden objects, they would start offering that option for mini games. I know there are those who love them, but I get so frustrated I just count the seconds when I can hit the skip button. Hidden objects were good and varied which kept my interest. There are several levels of play. I used the custom so I could set the skip and hint buttons at their quickest times. The map was a big help. It not only transports, but shows where there are things to do. I enjoy this feature tremendously. The story was very good. As you know if you have played the Hidden Expedition game before, you get the information cards. For some reason I just didn't get into them like I have in previous games. I think it is because I've never been into the Norse gods and the history of the region. I won't go into the story itself. Big Fish gives you enough information to set the scene, but I did like it very much. At least there were not ghosts or witches for a change. It may be far fetched, but this type of story is much more to my liking than those which have come out over the past several months. Give the demo a try. I do believe, especially if you are a mini game lover, you will like this game as much as I did. July 2, 2016
tedious Someday I will learn that the Expedition series just isn't as good as it used to be. I do hope I didn't pay full price. Once again a tired storyline filled with tedious, time consuming puzzles (all of which I skipped) and HOS. Was very happy to find a custom setting which allowed me to set the refresh very quickly. Transporter map was good as were the animations. Voice-overs passable, music annoying and characters stiff. Glad it was over when it was over. These games from this developer are getting more boring, tedious and same-o which is sad. July 6, 2016
Fun game...... This review is from demo only. Very good graphics , fun HO's. Game pulls you in from the start. Game play is logical. However, the demo only took me 40 mins for 2 chapters. Game only has 5 chapters, so seems like it would be a very short game, an hour or so to complete. Waaay to short , even on sale. A couple more chapters and an hour more of game play would have been nice. A no buy for me, Gave it 3 stars due to the short length. 5 stars for game play , graphics, sound and storyline. This one didn't do it for me I try not to review demos, but after playing the demo on this one, I wasn't excited to purchase the game. As far as game play goes, it was challenging enough that I actually had to use a walkthrough a couple of times. The visuals were wonderful, as I've come to expect in most of today's games, and I really do enjoy the fact cards that you find. However, by the time the demo ended, I wasn't really excited to continue the game because the storyline just didn't grab me. I mean, he demo ended with an explosion, and I truly didn't care to find out how I survived it. What was more disappointing was that this game focused on Norse mythology. I haven't come across any game that focused on that particular subject so that's why I decided to try it out. But, the storyline failed to capture my interest in this wonderful subject. That said, I would still recommend this game for anyone who enjoys Norse mythology as you may find it more exciting than I did. July 10, 2016
Wheres The Snake Battle The game trailer for the standard version was false there was no serpent battle. I bought the game for the serpent battle and was disappointed. I want to be able to trust the game trailer to be truthful. July 15, 2016
glad that's over with was so looking forward to this game and it started out ok, puzzles are either too easy or to hard to bother with. a lot of jumping around place to place and during the hidden object games, parts are fun - the parts you can't even see the picture of what you are looking for. I hate when I get that suspenseful feeling of I have to hurry before the world is blown up then have to go find a flashlight that's on lock down in a vault. or a ship that needs glue. the world is going to blow up! I need to hurry and glue a puzzle piece? if I really had to run around so far to hunt objects, the world would never have survived. July 14, 2016
