Occultus: Mediterranean Cabal is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Game Can't understand a real hidden object/adventure game lover giving this game anything less than 5 stars. I loved it. Wish there was more of this calibre. I thought it really testing and also original in many respects. Like the bits that you had change day to night. Nice and long too. Definitely worth buying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a well-refined old school game If what you want is just relaxing a bit while clicking the screen, Occultus: Mediterranean Cabal is not the game for you. But if you like a real challenge with some clever puzzles, packed in a game with an unique atmosphere thanks to its setting and very well-refined artistic design, give it a try! Don't play just 5 minutes, but give yourself sometime to see the story developments and to understand the game old-school mechanics and puzzles (if you've played old Lucas adventures games you understand what I'm talking about: many enigmas pays their homages to Indiana Jones series). Read the diary, really well done and having all the hints you need to solve the game. Enjoy the beautiful hand-drawn environments and the great setting. Yes, the game has some flaws: the voice over is sometimes sloppy, there could be some more animations and in some cases the pointer is not perfect. But i've read the game has been made by a very small team, and I really thinks it shines between dozens of all similar hidden objects game, giving to playes having some patience a great challenge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Chalenging and different game This game is very challenging and so different. The mechanics might seem a bit annoyng at first glance, but once i got used and understood that i had to use the tip of the items stitched to the mouse, instead of the mouse pointer itlself, everything turned ok and i really enjoyed the game smoothly. May be it is a first attemp of a new studio, the story is intriguing so far, puzzles are hard, the graphics is very good! HOs are indeed challenging because of some items size but i could afford them using the zoom feature, which let me even scroll the scene while zoomed. I suggest to follow the tutorial at the beginning, even for expert users, definitely a buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful change of pace This game is different from a lot of bf games. It is not part of a series, and I'm very thankful for that. I agree, the hiddden objects are hard to find. But you can zoom in on every part of the image. It helps a lot. And the storyline is very interesting. I find this game more challenging than most games I've played lately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Fascinating This game will not please every player but I find it very wonderful and very different. We all complain of the sameness and cookie-cutter quality of games, well here is one that is indeed different. It is set in Palermo by a studio based in Palermo and the scenes are authentic and uncompromisingly Italian. The hidden objects pose a different kind of challenge than we are used to, they are often small, you may need to use the good hint system rather often as I have but somehow given the different nature of the objects and placements with still a pleasure in finding the ones that I do find. The viewpoint character is drawn into the mystery of the fate of his (pleasing for a change to play a male role) grandfather. The story is in the occult but somehow ,whether because of the setting or the way it is developed, I do not feel that numbing certainty about what comes next that I do with so many games. Having shared this to encourage you to join me in this game, I will go back to the door at the end of a secret corridor where I will press on with an unexpected pleasure in gameplay such as I remember from when I first began to play these games. *in current favorite I will note another Italian game I find wonderful but which is even more challenging in its play.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth a Try This game is not as bad as the ratings suggest, but it is different from most BFG offerings. Try the demo to see if YOU like it. Games are like music, you either like it or don't. The music is not bad. I actually thought it was pretty good. The HOS are junk piles and some objects are very small, but that's part of the challenge. You feel so proud of yourself if you find it. Mini games range from easy to weird and difficult. I say weird because the instructions are not well written and the solution is not apparent at 1st glance, or even after many tries. Skip button to the rescue. The format is flawed and not the usual seen with most BFG games. There is a teleport map, you have to click on the scene you want to move to, to the center, and click again to teleport. A minor hassle, but makes it feel old school. This is a slower paced game (when played on expert mode), but Hint & Skip still allowed. I found it relaxing to explore at leisure among the scenes instead of being bombarded by sudden movements, noises, and characters as per usual. It's a pretty long game when played on expert mode. The plot isn't half bad, but drawn out. In sum, it's a game worth trying. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Let's investigate! This is based on 20 mins. of demo. There are 4 modes of play: easy, normal, hard and custom. There are voices and text. You can combine items at bottom of screen. You can choose your language. Hints and skips are available. Game takes place in Palermo, Italy in 1912. The HOS are interactive, although I only came across one in the demo. It has a cane puzzle, which you can skip - don't know about other puzzles.
