Tradewinds Caravans 3.6 5 5 5
picaresque adventures and quirky characters With gameplay this simplistic and repetitive, Tradewinds Caravans proves to be much more entertaining than it deserves. All you do is waddle around the map, back and forth between locations, to complete tasks, trade goods at the best prices and reinforce your small army to boot out highway robbers. Click, click, click. In its defense, the lack of challenging puzzles do give your brain a break if you need it. And yet, the six available storylines, side-quests, characters and dialogue are so offbeat, quirky and engaging that it has become one of my favourite Big Fish Games. There's just something about this little game, it has that special spark of life and personality. However, be warned: there's zero replay value. This game plays like a story: you want to find out what the writers came up with next. While the side-quests are shuffled so that they will never appear in the same order, nor do you play all of them the first time around, once you have completed a quest, when you encounter it again, there's little motivation left to go through the motions (click. click. click.) and complete it. Still a fun little game, warmly recommended! December 21, 2011
Silk Road pirates A nice variation from sailing. Unique graphics, good story, challenging combat. Interesting quests too. April 7, 2012
Pleasantly Surprised by This Tradewinds After reading the bad reviews by a few other TW diehards on BF, I was worried... but frankly, still so hooked on Tradewinds from the last game I played (Legends) that I had to give it a whirl. At first it seemed like it was going to be a disappointment: like another reviewer wrote, you walk everywhere and that means you have to click the cursor on the map to keep moving forward. At first it's a nuisance but later on, this added an extra layer of challenge as I had to maneuvre to avoid the bad guys (bands of thieves on the silk road). Another layer of challenge comes from figuring out what you need to survive through all the tasks and tests in each storyline... and they are pretty different. So far, I've played three characters. To be frank I hated two of them, although that is because one character was extra hard for me to keep up with, because so many bad things kept happening to him I wasn't able to keep my caravan alive!! But once I found a character with a tale that I wanted to keep reading (and some built in good luck on his side, lol), I found the stamina to keep him alive and eventually finished. It took ages, and I had to restart his version of the game three times before I got the hang of it so be warned, the game is a tad fiddly to learn and not easy to pick up. My advice is, if you don't like the game or can't get the hang of it at first, try a few different characters; they have fairly different levels of challenge built into their tales; some are serious, some are fun. All in all, this is a far lengthier and more satisfying Tradewinds than "legends" because there are extra storylines and dramas and challenges. I warmed up to it and I'm sure anyone who likes the naval version can too, as long as they have a decent span of time to try it out (e.g. when you're off work sick like I was!) September 22, 2016
Worst Tradewinds Game Ever Made! Based on buying the full version. I love the Tradewinds games, but this one was pretty sub-par. You can only travel city to city, so if you need to get somewhere you're going to do a lot of walking. It gets very boring after the first few hours, and annoying. The battle system is unique but gets very hard after a while. The trade system is simplistic at best. Basicly you buy as far away from a city and then walk for days to the furthest city to sell it for a high profit, that's about it for trade, no strategy at all. The side story of all the playable characters is the only redeeming quality, but even that is not enough to save this sinking ship. In the end, I would stick with the other Tradewinds games out there. This one is not worth the time nor money. October 23, 2012
Could have been better I loved all the Tradewinds games. Sadly this was the only one I really regretted buying. Although promising at first, it hung several times. There was also a timed challenge which was simply impossible to complete that I simply gave up on the game after many attempts. November 25, 2011
