Secrets of the Dark: Temple of Night is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Defeat the evil forces holding power over a town I'm a late arrival to this game, but not to these devs. This game ranks right up there with my favorites from Orneon. I loved this game. It's dark, yes, but it's along the lines of classic good vs. evil rather than vampires or reincarnation. Other reviewers have talked about the story line, etc. Suffice to say that the overall game is challenging; the HO scenes are true to the atmosphere of the game; the mini-puzzles are, for the most part, not overly easy. There was one mini-game for which I didn't understand the instructions and had to use the skip function; next time I play this game - and it does have replay value - I'll check the walk-through if I still don't get it. There was an interesting twist that I really liked, although other players might find it annoying. Most of the rooms in the game were actually two rooms, one in the present and one in the past. It was necessary to find things in one time frame, and then use them in the other time frame. This was a little confusing at first, but I don't think it caused a huge amount of going back and forth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice! The graphics are slightly blurry but here we have well done HOS, interesting puzzles, good length, backtracking and no sparkles (neither HOS) in advanced mode.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique approach to HO game! I thought this game was excellent. I especially loved the aspect of the scene morphing when the light changes. It is a unique approach to gaming. The story line is pretty good. Friend needs to rescue friend from the fiendish Aztec demons and stop prime demon from coming to life and taking over the world. The music was pretty good. I thought the graphics were really good. The animation was OK. The games were fun and the HO were tricky but not object dumps and all the things were findable. More research needs to be done on the Aztecs. When you have one of the prime Mayan carvings on a wall in the night time "police" station you know that the game developers were sloppy. The Mayan pyramid, the feathered serpents of Tenochtitlan, and the figurines from Monte Alban are all part of the pre Columbian culture of Mexico but came at different times and were not part of the Aztec culture. The only negative thing I can say about the game was that it was short. Or at least it only took me just under 4 hours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quatzacoatl Good Time! Great game. Well done. The DEVS apply historical research for more emersive entertainment. "Believable" story, great music, good art. Puzzles are challenging without being too hard and HOGs are as good as they get! Making a scene change shape and time period via lighting is VERY cool. Just made the game even more enjoyable. Some of the best mood setting music I've heard in a game. Quite appropriate. After what Peter has gone through and as scared as he acts in the final scene, I think a well placed wet spot would have been hilarious, haha. Anyway, I look forward to more titles in this series!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Are YOU Afraid of the Dark??? Great game!! Loved the daylight/dark thing (don't want to be a spoiler) Good balance between HOs and Adventure. Wished now I would have purchased the CE, but the SE was still a good challenge. I hope the other Secrets of the Dark are just as good or better!! There are definitely things that go "bump" in the night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing is what it seems I had a blast playing this game, magnificently done. All of you that have interest in mystery adventure with a little horror should consider playing this game. The good : excellent story keeps your attention from begging to the very end( by finding VHS tapes you reveal part of the story) nice graphics, lots of interesting locations( almost every location has light and dark side, so basically by switching lights on or of you have two different locations in one) challenging puzzles, mostly brainteasers hidden object scenes- 2 types- standard( find listed objects) and one where you have to find right place for displayed objects the bad: no map constantly consulting your journal for codes and similar music is annoying, a bit monotone

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the "shade effect" Im finding myself drawn more to games that are unique and this one definitely is!! It plays as a normal hidden object game except you can "pull the curtains" and the whole scene changes and you are in an underworld of evil so to speak. At some point in the game, it actually gets dark because its night and the demon world is there all the time. It's your duty to find and rescue your friend who is a journalist. This game took me approximately 4 hours give or take. It was sooo fun, I wish it had lasted longer but the SE wrapped up quite nicely. No need to get the CE to figure out what happens. I have the 2nd one in this series and I understand it more now from having played this one. This one leads you right on in. I could never get this one to work on my computer but now it does randomly and I am very happy about that :) There are two modes of difficulty. The music goes very well with the gameplay. There are lots of scenes since you have two per room because of the curtains. The hidden object scenes vary from interactive to putting back the item to just normal lists. There are a lot of different mini games. I did skip a few, not because of difficulty but just because I wanted to keep going with the story and some repeat. Like it has a lot of puzzles that are the ones where you are trying to make all the boxes/shapes stand out or in. I can usually get those after repeated tries but sometimes its just too much so I skip. There is a puzzle to solve the game and its kind of tricky...took me awhile to save my friend. All in all, this is a great game. Enjoy!! Love Orneon & their games xx I recommend the 2nd one in this series too! I like it even more because it has elephants! my fav!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Different Game I enjoyed when the rooms morphed! I though I had everything in a game but this one has a twist in the settings layout. Interesting story line, good puzzles, hidden objects. I truly loved and I hope there is more like this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unexpectedly longer than I thought This was a fun game and I thought it would be a short game but I was wrong. I am no expert when playing these games and I thought I was halfway through after the demo. oh no.. probably took me 5 hrs or so even skipping a lot of the puzzles (which were hard for someone like me who needs more playing instruction than what is given). Loved the changing of the light in the rooms. Bought this on the 1/2 price sale and glad I did.
