Still Delivering Uniquely Creepy Atmosphere BASED ON COMPLETED GAME I love the CE trial of this one, but decided to wait for the SE. I am satisfied with my choice. The SE game was enough of a challenge for me, and having finished it, I?d be too tired to go on with another chapter! Last things first, the ENDING was FINE to me. Yes, it was abrupt, but it wasn?t unexpected, and it had a subtle emotional quality to it that made it feel right. The game is NOT AT ALL CUTE, for those of you who are already sick of fantasies, which does not stop you being drawn into the game at an emotional level. There is an emphasis on ADVENTURE in this game, so there are very FEW actual PUZZLES, but there are a LOT of INVENTORY ITEMS that require ?puzzling out? before you can use them. Some it is just another item to combine with them, some it is a code, others are interesting and complex MIXES. The HOS are also PUZZLES IN THEMSELVES. The interactive items on the list may take you half a dozen ECCENTRIC INTERACTIONS to collect them. I really enjoyed these. The GLOOMY ATMOSPHERE for which this series is famous continues. WILD LIGHTNING, torrential rain, autumnal colouring of the GRAPHICS, along with THUNDER CRACKS & HOWLING WOLVES all combine to create a threatening air. It is all very PROFESSIONALLY done, and this is personally my favourite of the series, because of the added complexity of both the game play and the emotional involvement. June 2, 2013
another shiver another good game I have played all of the shiver games and they are all good. Has good graphics and music. Some voice over. The HOS are good and not really hard. The puzzles are good some easier than others. The hint button works good. Has a good flow to the game. Some going back and forth but all the games do now. Have things to find just for fun. Really enjoyable game like the others. May 31, 2013
Another Great Shiver Game! Shiver is the third in the series, the other two games were Poltergeist and Vanishing Hitchhiker. I really enjoyed both of those games, and personally, this one did not fail in keeping my interest. I played the game on advanced. My take on the game: 3 levels: Casual, Advanced Expert. Interactive objects, HOPA and HOS. On the HOS, you really have to think outside the box, which I like. Graphics are crisp and the shading was appropriate for the scenes. You have an opportunity to skip the dialogue/cutscenes, but I suggest watching them - they aren't that long and you can advance the screens. Puzzles are logical. Smooth play - no problems. Hard to stop playing...I decided on purchasing the SE which was fine. And, I don't mind if the ending isn't cut and dried - I enjoy the series so will buy the next game ( if it is as good!). A game that does almost everything right I have played probably 100+ of these casual games on BF so I know what works (for me) and what doesn't. This game was beautiful in so many ways. 1. It was true to the time period including the HO scenes. If they didn't have an electric toaster back in that time, you weren't about to find it in a HOS, for example. Also, it wasn't dripping in HOS's which I personally like. 2. Throughout the game, what you had to find and do with those objects also stayed true to the time period. I thought a lot of it was very clever. You also had to combine some items or tear others apart. 3. The music and sound effects were great, esp. the music. It always matched the mood of what was going on. 4. The puzzles were probably average and I wish there had been a few more because again, that's what I like about these games. 5. The storyline was well told. 6. The graphics were moody and well done. 7. The length of the game was good - I didn't time myself but it seemed longer than most games I get through. I completed the SE and while there weren't any special achievements or "beyond objects" to find, that was OK for me in this games because everything clicked so well. I do enjoy those things, though, when they are offered. Overall, a very nice game and I thank the developer for the thought they put behind it. June 14, 2013
I feel shiver down my back SHIVER ? play the awesome game, feel it in your fingers. I am an admirer of werewolf dark spooky games, so there was no way for me but to at least try. From my experience, the gameplay was perfect and logic, with lots of attractive puzzles and mind-boggling HOS. Dark and gloomy atmosphere was supported by the astounding graphics and intriguing story line which you want to follow to the end. I would like to see map, collectibles and achievements, but even without them I had tons of fun. Thanks, BFG! June 20, 2013
I LOVED THIS GAME! Great story, wonderful graphics, interactive hidden object scenes, interactive objects in your inventory, being able to look up in some scenes, fun puzzles - like the spoon on the grating, etc. I think this is my favorite of the three Shiver games. I cannot recommend this game highly enough! August 22, 2013
One of the best BF games I've ever played! I was really impressed with this game. Great story line, realistic graphics/sounds, interesting use of objects, not too many hos. Loved it!!! June 16, 2013
The Standard Edition Stands Alone I'm a little hesitant in buying standard versions but the trial play pulled me in from the beginning. The story line is great! And, the graphics are reminisce of the Myst type genre. One drawback for those of us who like HO type games is the HO scenes were way too easy. Overall this is a great game to while away a snowy Sunday afternoon. February 17, 2015
A Good Adventure with some HO too This game is structured pretty much how I prefer my HOA's--mostly adventure/problem-solving with some HO and minigames only when it aids the story. The HO scenes are a bit tough because of the artwork, but I enjoyed the level of challenge here (some HO's are just too easy). The HO scenes also involved little problems to solve to find certain objects--a lot more demanding than most in this regard. Some of the minigames were pointlessly hard, but for the most part they were fine, too, and there weren't so many of them that I felt it interfered with the flow of the game (which is common in HOA's). The storyline was nothing particularly new or exciting, but it at least made sense. The Adventure part of the game was a bit challenging and I would have preferred an interactive map rather than having to travel all over the game to get what I needed, but at least the setting is not extensive. Some of the locations that were no longer needed sort of closed themselves once I was done with them, but others just stayed and I think it would have been better if the game could have closed them or told me that I was finished there. But otherwise, I have no complaint game-wise. Visually, the game is a monochromatic (lots of dark/grey/rainy sorts of locations) which supports the mood but does become kind of bland to look at after a while. Really, I'd like to give this one 4.5 instead of a 4 or a 5! Overall, though, I recommend it if you like adventure games! October 19, 2014
My new favourite I have liked the two previous Shiver games a lot but this one has to be my favourite - and maybe even my favourite Mac game to date. Maybe a bit on the short side in the standard version (I really regret not buying the CE) but I enjoyed every moment. I loved the fact that some of the items picked up underway had to be either combined with others or manipulated in some way in order to work - a great addition to the standard puzzles, HOS and games. The graphics are marvellous, the voiceovers great and the story flows nicely. In fact, maybe I WILL buy the CE, like right now! Game developers - please make me more of these! July 26, 2013
