The Book of Desires is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 99.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moody, Relaxing, Slow tempo game... (Available at BFG since 2012) Loved this! What a surprise. Moody, artsy graphics. In places we get Salvidor Dali/Tim Burton/Dr Seuss weird wonderfulness. Occasional subtle sense of humor here and there. Travel from your normal existence to nonsensical land, a strange building full of doors, a tree hide-out, a land of boarded up, gray, abandoned dwellings...The skies are dark and angry. Very laid-back and relaxing. Nothing like most 2016 games. STORY - Unfulfilled dreams and desires ...are the chains that bind you to this world! Will you manage to escape? Or are you going to be in this nightmare FOREVER!..........................Forever!.....Forever!...................... GRAPHICS -Not colorful. Graphics are grays, browns and neutral. Just so you know, I had to set my computer to full brightness and it was still a little on the dark side, and my computer gets pretty bright. Fullscreen, widescreen, and windowed. HOPS - 11-12 wordlists with 1 or 2 items extra hidden PUZZLES: All skippable. SOUNDS - 2 Sound & Music. Pleasant, appropriate and atmospheric. Music is suitable and totally separate. MAP: NONE JOURNAL: NONE DIFFICULTY SETTINGS - 2 , NOT interchangeable HINT: 20 seconds to recharge on Casual, and 60 seconds to recharge on Expert. Guides and leads you, and there's a walkthrough available from BFG. INVENTORY - Lockable CHARACTERS: Minimal interaction 2012 seems to be the year that many outstanding games were created!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from That was fun! It has been a long time since I have played an HOG that was just stripped down without all the bells and whistles and it was a blast! The story was fun, the graphics worked and it wasn't super hard. You have no maps or journals or ways to configure your level of difficulty. You just go in and play. There are hints and skips but that is it. It was a fun game for my Sunday afternoon and I am glad I purchased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Book of Desires ABSOLUTELY WONDERFULLY WEIRD!! This game was just terrific. I loved solving the puzzles. The story line was just plain weird, but most riveting. I was able to get the game with a "free game" code and I am thrilled. It was better than many of the Collector's Editions. I look forward to the next installment if there is one. I highly recommend this game. RJohn

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful~ I gave this a RAVE review mainly because I had/have NO gripes. May be odd to say about a game but it is so polite...the hint button, if needed, filled quickly... plus, if one is "lost" the hint literally SHOWED one where to go next and cut thru the baloney to allow the player to continue with the fun. The hidden objects were not impossible to find but not so overt to be a joke...the mini games were not brain-drainers and solvable! Music is/was very pleasant and bottom line, I'm seeking out this developer for MORE!!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smart and fun, wonderful graphics Nice simple story, but one that makes you care for the characters. (because if you do not care for the story, then you are not hooked). Visuals are perfect for story - which involve dreams. Nice dealing with skeletons, and figuring out what to give them, so they'll be helpful to you. There is an intelligence in there - you feel like a fool trying to catch a butterfly which flies each time you click on it, until you figure out there is a reason why you have a buterfly net. D"oh! Then the sphere in the two hands that changes the access to different areas. One sees that the developers chose substance over flash. Puzzles not too tough, but fun. It is an example of a good game for kids that does not insult the intelligence and adults can enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dali or Alice? I couldn't make up my mind about the atmosphere of this game. I was either lost in a Salvatore Dali painting or I followed Alice down the rabbit hole. I loved the play environment of this HOG. The artwork was excellent and visually stimulating. I didn't find it a particularly hard game but I enjoyed the HO scenes and puzzles. Just a lot of fun especially for a "bonus" purchase. Definitely going to play this one again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A HIGHLY underrated game! I have to say that I absolutely loved this game. And what a surprise that was! This was one of those games that you buy 'cause it looks to be good, but then put it on hold for months on end as you don't expect much from it. Well, I finally played it as I didn't have much else to do, and WOW HOW WRONG WAS I!!! This is such a fantastic game and I honestly wish I had realised this sooner and played it when I bought it originally. Though it's nice to have stumbled on such a gem when least expecting it. There are some very good points in this game and I'll just list a few that made this experience so great for me: * The HOS are so cleverly done that I was actually quite amazed. These are among the best HOS I have ever seen in a game before. Not purely for the fact that the graphics are so well done, but for the fact that they really challenge you without frustrating you. And there are HOS scenes in almost every new scene, not too many and not too few, so if you are among those that doesn't like the game to be purely HOS you'll love this one. * The puzzles are very clever (though some are maybe a bit on the easy side). There are multiple puzzles throughout the game and they are all different. There is such a variety of puzzles that that in itself is a great experience for puzzle lovers and they are very fun to solve. * The hint button recharges very quickly so if you get stuck you can use the hint as much as you want without there being any text telling you what to do (so you'll still have to think for yourself). * It makes you think for yourself and think ahead so there's an intellectual challenge to it and a need to memorise scenes and objects as you go back and forth. * There are so many beautiful scenes in this game that I was quite amazed. There's a lot of variety in the scenes and such a variety of interaction with objects and other things in the background. All in all this game has multiple different scenes with a whole lot of interaction, beautiful graphics, great HOS, clever puzzles, great music and a fun storyline. I do hope you HO fans out there give this one a chance as I think it's one of those games that are very underestimated and tend to be ignored. This is a fantastic game and I highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Good One! Good Parts: The game was very addictive and made me want to play on to see what would happen next. The fun factor in this game is great. It was lots of fun to play. I loved the Hidden Object Scenes. They were a great challenge and provided entertainment. It was a great storyline. The intro hooked you and you knew you had to play to the end. I would've liked to see some voice-overs though. Great, detailed and very modern graphics. You can clearly see a lot of time was put in to this. The hint recharged really fast (30 sec#. This was great as I would need it a lot. OK Parts: I think a Stratey Guide should've been included as I needed the hint a lot to find out what to do next. Bad Parts: The puzzles #or minigames as this game calls them) were just way too hard. Almost at genius level. The skp took forever to recharge 2:00) This was really annoying as not only did it run down my free trial, but as I stated before, the puzzles were too hard so for those 2 minutes I was sitting there waiting. This game provided great entertainent. It passes on everything and I happily recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Game The graphics were great, the music was good and the fun factor was awesome. I love this type of Hidden Object/Adventure game. The storyline was also great. Bought this and enjoyed it. I do wish it had been a little longer but overall no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Surprising I wasn't too sure I would like this game but, it was very relaxing and I took my time going through it. It is just a fun game to enjoy, at least that is what my thoughts were until near the end. Rather than tell you about the ending, I will just say, the ending took this from a fun game to an excellent game for me. I hope you enjoy it!
