Sherlock Holmes VS Jack the Ripper is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 73.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disturbing and gripping This is an incredibly well-researched game. It is difficult at times because the subject matter is gruesome and saddening, horrifying. The game does not shy away from history, but it also does not glorify or fetishize violence or gore or racism or misogyny. I wish Watson or Holmes as characters were more fleshed out in the game. It is hard to get a sense of their fears or motivations (like, for instance, in a Nancy Drew game). However, the same cannot be said for the other characters, or the setting. You a feel for the difficulties of the error, and you get a sense of Whitechapel. This is emotionally tough, as a game, for the desperation and poverty as much as anything else. Gosh, I didn't even know about congenital syphilis. This is a tough game. Challenging, intelligent, and made with thoughtfulness and care. I really enjoyed playing. This game will stick with me, for what I learned of the time period. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Older Game's Are The Best! This Is A True Gem! I’m so glad I ignored the low review’s and persevered past a glitch and didn’t give up on this game because this was the first game in years with extraordinary graphics and such an intense story-line that once it grabbed me I couldn't stop if I tried and I remembered the entire story once I was done. BE WARNED.. This is very graphic and down right gross at times yes is about Jack the Ripper after-all but some topics are beyond just that.. If you'er easily (yucked) by things DO NOT PLAY this game.. Most stuff doesn’t bother me but I cringed a time or two. The title from a one star review I do agree with is "Impossible Without The Walkthrough" Some mini games are truly impossible without cheating. However some I gave up on I suppose if I read the dialog's /document’s and such enough the answer’s actually are there but most did elude me to be honest. I just used those time's to save the game and take a break. I hate HOG’s and look for game's without them and this has none. I’m a fan of the older gritty graphics too so that didn’t bother me at all in fact it was another big plus. I enjoyed wandering the streets of 1800’s Victorian London to the sound of voices and hoof beats in the distance with people of all walks of life wandering up and down the streets. There are countless character’s everywhere and all can be approached some may not progress the game but then a lot do, you can stop if you want or just walk past them. Yes, at first you do wander a lot but as you find locations or Holmes comments on them they’re put on the map so you don’t have to try and find them over and over but I did choose to walk it often just to see all the area‘s and graphic‘s. This is the 3rd Sherlock Holmes game I’ve played/playing and was thrilled that it had NO timed mini games since I started with and have yet to finish (Silver Earring) I do have to give 10 star’s to the developer's at how much work went into this game they didn’t miss a thing re-creating this era. The visuals from the countless character‘s wandering the streets of Whitechapel day & night and how they turn, look and acknowledge each other is amazing. How just an expression on Sherlock Holmes’s face tells a story in itself to the cobblestone streets, this game is visual perfection. The relationship between Holmes’s and Watson is portrayed exceptionally well too and at times is humorous.. If you'er up for a challenge, want your money's worth and are sick of HOG's give this older game a chance.. It seems like so many games now are just bright color’s, hint, skip very easily forgotten if ever understood, that's NOT this game. I recommend taking the time to watch the end credits they explain where this version of the story came from. Enjoy...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHAT AN AWESOME GAME; SO MUCH FUN Love the 360's! I was completely immersed in the game. A cohesive, thoughtful, intelligent story-line, BEAUTIFUL graphics, wonderful puzzles. Ya have to think! Not recommended for kids. More playtime bang for the buck. I sincerely hope these intelligent, creative people continue to produce these games!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Possibly the best in the series. This is the best game in the series in my opinion but I haven't yet tried Testament yet. The graphics are awesome, the faithfulness to Conan Doyles work as well as the historical accuracy to the real life Ripper murders are spot on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Point and Click Adventure Glad I found this great game. I love adventure but not hidden object. This game had a great story, good environment and fun puzzles. You felt like you were walking around Whitechapel and investigating. The only drawbacks 1) a few of the puzzles had some strange controls. One that stands out was where you had to select clues to add to a timeline but I couldn't figure out the mechanics. I did a quick online search and found my problem. The second was that a couple of the puzzles seemed a bit obscure when trying to solve them (the mannequin puzzles comes to mind). But they didn't detract from the game at all. Great adventure! Very enjoyable and many hours of game play. Highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall a fun game While the graphics could use some work this game is clever and different. Be warned, even though the graphics are so-so its a little graphic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent surpassed my expectations Excellent, surpassed my expectations. Five stars rating. The game integrated real history notes, with discovery of previously covered up information hidden from the general public, yet known and documented in certain circles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Enjoyable This is my favourite Sherlock Holmes game yet. The timelines and deduction boards were very helpful and exactly what I've been waiting for in this style of game. The story line was engaging and the acting was decent. The only downside was that there were some graphic glitches that turned hotspot items black. This was handy when I was looking for an item required to continue the game, but annoying when it was an image that I needed to see. I am no stranger to first person point and click adventures and this game still took me about 7 hours to complete so I consider it money well spent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SHERLOCK HOLMES AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS POWERS! This game is not for the young or the faint of heart, as it deals with adult subject matter. The case of Jack the Ripper was never solved -- or -- was it? Sherlock Holmes, at the very height of his deductive powers is on the trail of the famous killer, Jack the Ripper. The game is one big chase, and a very engrossing one, at that! The gameplay is smooth, especially in third person perspective, the graphics are just fine, and the music -- all classical violin -- is beautiful. Some of the puzzles are treacherous -- especially the random ones. Trying to create the "correct" ellipsis around some murder scenes almost drove me insane, but I finally nailed it! Here is where no walkthrough will help you. All in all, the game was highly interesting and exciting and I recommend it to those who are not afraid of brutality and a bit of gore.
