Dark Arcana: The Carnival is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 149.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Blend of Action Suspense Story & Game Play 2017 and this game is still exceptional. Excellent story with a great twist at the end. You must play the Bonus Chapter to learn what that is. From the very start you are on for the ride in the spooky/fun carnival trying to help a little girl find her mother. Game play is intuitive. You know most every move to make next. There are some totally fun puzzles and HOP (you can play a card game that is unique, fast and fun instead of HOP). All of these make sense to the the game. There is no fit this piece into this slot mind numbing drivel here. There is so much to do and see. Also there is continuous interaction between yourself and other entities and characters so you don't spend long silent periods doing mindless to and fro tasks. Instead, you are rocketed along on a veritable roll-a-coaster of a game until the thrilling finale. I don't often play the bonus games but I strongly recommend this one. You will love it. There is a bit of humor, too. Great game. Similar to Madam Fate and Weird Park. Enjoy!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If You Like The Weird Park Series, You'll Love Dark Arcana! This game was exceptional! It's more than just a "carnival" game, it also has a unique back story and an amazing romp through the "underworld" version of the carnival. In addition to the "happy ending" you get with reuniting a mother with her child, you also get the bonus chapter that reunites the two star-crossed lovers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good carnival horror game Great game with a grotesquely baroque and imaginative setting. It reminds me of the portal scene from Mortal Kombat. The game provides good value because it comes with alot of extras but you only have to pay the standard price since it is not a CE, so thats pretty cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Creepy and Fun The graphics in this game are excellent. Good mix of puzzles and HOS. Liked the monkey helper. Worth the SE, but I'm not sure what the CE offers. This one has a "next chapter", although it is not very long. No strategy guide in this version. There are two levels: Casual, expert and really hard. I like to play hardcore, but that option does not include the interactive map. I chose the middle level because it does. It only adds sparkles to HOS. This game is really worth the one punch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW, WOW AND I DID MENTION WOW! What a fantastic game - this really made my weekend. Review on completed game and bonus. You have: * Voiceovers; * Casual, Advanced and Expert modes of play; * Diary; * Map (but not an interactive map); * Achievements Board (20 of them); * Miles the monkey to give you a hand; * Bonus game. I played on Expert mode throughout the game and bonus. There were no sparkles in the Expert mode, which I was glad for. The graphics were fabulous - very colourful and bright, just like you would imagine a carnival to be. Everywhere was crystal clear and easy to see - even in the evil world. Sometimes the characters in the game actually looked real - they were so life like. Sound was very good and the music was what you would listen to at a carnival. The whole atmosphere was creepy (but not scary) and I had so much fun discovering all the areas. There were many hidden object games to play, which didn't take very long - around a minute or two for each one. They were easy to play. There were also a lot of mini-games to play which were all great fun. I played them all and had a great time. None were too hard or frustrating. In the main game you play Susan Jones (the mother) and in the Bonus game you play Miles. I had a wonderful time playing this game and thoroughly enjoyed it. Even if you don't play another game this month or even this year, PLAY THIS GAME, you won't be disappointed. All up, the game and bonus took me about 5 hours to play. Definitely worth buying and putting in your collection. Have fun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dark Arcana: The Carnival What a hidden gem of a Hidden Object Adventure, edgy, creepy and plain old entertaining. Susan Jones was enjoying a day at the carnival with her daughter when they decide to visit the House of Fear. Bad choice for Susan, the carney owner waits until Susan's daughter goes through the exit door and traps Susan inside! (should have seen that coming with that evil clown on the door). You are the detective assigned to the case and there's all kinds of crazy going on inside the carnival. Apparently the carney's owner Jim Gibbons killed his wife Alice Baker who was assisting him 25 years ago in his knife throwing act in 1975. Once you start snooping around you begin to see the big picture, has Jim made the devil a deal to use Susan to bring Alice back to life? The first thing you will notice are the incredible graphics, creepy takes on a whole new level, and I was amazed at how lifelike and detailed the characters were. Even though this is just a Standard Edition, there are all kinds of achievements to earn for things like no misclick or hints used on HOS and befriending the monkey. This monkey you befriend, was chained at the ankle and scared. You play an arcade claw game to retrieve a stuffed banana toy and the monkey is your pal, helping you out by retrieving items out of your reach. I found it amusing that there were objects throughout the carnival that you could interact with, none are pertinent to the game just there for amusement such as popping balloons or moving wind chimes. The mini games are really simple but really fun, almost all of the games are arcade style games, the Claw, shooting BB's at targets and, switching the scenery and characters on a carnival act until everything makes logical sense, by using directional arrows. The Hidden Object Scenes are slightly interactive list finds, mostly just clicking on items as indicated by gears, to uncover an item such as a lid or moving a blanket. If you aren't a fan of HOS (is that possible?) you can opt to play a game of Monaco which is a simple game of matching two cards with alike pictures and the remaining cards drop down or over in a match 3 type game (only it's a match 2 lol) I will tell you that the HOS are repeated twice, but not in the same place, surprise you get to enter a mirror portal to the good carnivals alter ego, the dark twisted evil carnival. Yep, dark and dreary and full of evil! I can't think of a single thing I didn't like about this game, awesome story, terrific graphics, evil clowns -everybody loves a clown-creative achievements and two dimensional games, good carnival bad carnival. The more I think about it the more I wish I got a 6 star option, enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So much fun! Originally I played this two years ago. I enjoyed it immensely both times. It was a great story with really good visuals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good game. Fun game, lots to do. Puzzles are good. Chose of doing HOs or a game named Monaco(something like memory). Have map. journal and lots of notes around full of info. Morphing from one world to another is always fun! 'Last chapter' gave me more of a problem than the main part. But, it is a great game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oodles of fun What an excellent, fun game. Not particularly challenging HOS or puzzles, but that is fine. Everything is very clear and it never gets frustrating. Another game where you play a detective, but this time looking for the mother rather than a child. You have a helper in the form of a monkey to reach items you cannot get yourself. There are three levels of difficulty from casual through advanced to expert. There is a map, and it shows where there is an available action on Casual and Advanced only. You can also choose to cancel voice overs, though they are pretty good; well above average. Highly recommended.
