Mystery Case Files: Shadow Lake is rated 2.9 out of 5 by 227.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I played Like others, I was first turned off by negative reviews, but I decided to go ahead and play this MCF game since I had played all the others in the series. I liked that it wasn't along the same story line as the other MCF games. This game was fun BECAUSE it was different. It was also neat to see a famous actress (Leah Thompson) play a main character. There was a good mixture of hidden object games and other brain teasers to keep you interested. Overall, it was refreshing to play a game that had a bit of humor and whimsy along with a good story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Critics are being too harsh, it's a great game! I don't see why a lot of people think this is just so awful! Now in my opinion, it's not as good as RTR, Dire Grove, or 13th Skull, but it's not a bad game! It has great graphics and sound quality, and the fact that they use REAL actors compared to animation (despite some of their lines being a little cheesy) is a nice touch! It's also a very nice thriller! (SPOILER START!) From a news woman coming on telling you about the weather almost half scaring the heck out of you when all of a sudden she turns into this monster on the TV, to strange "things" coming out of nowhere, this game will definitely keep you on your toes! (SPOILER END!) This game takes place in a run-down town in Maine and it shows in the art style. Lots of dark green and gray all around kind of make it look like a depressing game which is what the game is trying to achieve is a nice touch. There is full HD support on this game and you can always disable it in the Options Menu if your computer can't handle it or the game runs too slow on it. Overall, it's a great game! I personally liked Dire Grove & 13th Skull better, but this game isn't a bad game! It's a nice continuation in the MCF Series!! I definitely think you should try this out if you like Thrillers & Hidden Object Games!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Atmosphere I was so surprised to see the less than stellar 3-star rating for this game. MCF have been some of my all time favourite games. I think I avoided trying it because of that, but I recently played the demo and I'm buying it. I do loath those out of control inventory bars at the bottom of the screen that auto-hide so you are in a constant battle with calling it up when you are just trying to leave the room. But there's a strange kind of play to this game that I like, different and innovative and not easily boring. The video cut-aways and acting are really good for a pc game. Almost over the top. Has all the cheese of a Saturday afternoon mystery game with live acting. the graphics drew me in, like the old white wooden house with the fresh tree fallen through the roof, and the strange eerie look of the upstairs with a gaping hole to the sky and this tree laying there, while the sedate family pictures hanging undisturbed on the remaining walls. I played the demo out which ended at a puzzle that stumped me in a good way, and so I'm buying now that they have a good sale on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Under-praised gem! Early reviews wrong maybe?? This game is years old but I picked it up for the "Catch of the Day" sale, and I HAD to write a review. This game is very good, but I didn't buy it when it was first available because the initial reviews were murderous. Seriously, those reviews likely killed all chances of it taking off as fabulously as it may have otherwise. * Cool spooky and realistic atmosphere. * Appropriate and beautiful music. * Detailed story-line that kept my attention. And despite my not being a fan of the main actress used, I quickly got over how "over-acted" her style was and got quite into her quirky vibe and looked forward to every dialogue with her. My only complaint is that it is not challenging at all. But it still comes across like a fun interactive movie experience melded with a game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not sure why more people don't like this game! While I didn't care about listening to the psychic the whole time, the mini games were challenging enough to be fun and of course the videos were entertaining. Plus, the spooky ghost stuff kept is creepy and interesting. I totally loved this game and thought it was great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty cool game! I am an MCF fan, and even though this game was a bit different than the normal MCF, I enjoyed it. It was pretty straight forward, but the actors and the graphics got my attention. The map functioned well, even though you had to trek a lot. (I kept forgetting to take the ladder) I also thought the HOS were thoughtful because you had to explore more than one room to find things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Go By Bad Reviews I am sorry that I waited so long to play this game based on bad reviews. I love Mystery Case Files games and this was no exception. Loved the story line.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The bad reviews are wrong! It took me several months to purchase this game as many of the reveiws were unfavorable. BUT, when I played the game, I found that it was fantastic. The format is different from the other MCF games, but not in a bad way. I believe people don't like this game as it is harder than the other MCF games, I played in expert mode and found it to be very challenging. The only part of the game I found to be annoying is the ladder, you have to remember to carry it back and forth with you between scenes. The graphics were very good, the acting was good - boy was I happy when the ghost hunter host was knocked out. I was scared many times and the game was really creepy. If you like a challenge and liked being scared, play this game!
