Runaway Geisha is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, just beautiful Wonderful story, told in gorgeous detail. So many HOGs rely on junk piles that are ugly to look at, but here it is a feast for your eyes. The storyline does matter instead of being a filler for the HOS and minigames, and the Japanese motif is fully realized. Do yourself a favor and get this one

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hidden enemies and the powerful love of two very different men! This is a "period" game, set in pre WWII Japan. The music is Japanese, nice and tranquil to listen to. The artwork is beautiful, with different types including some Japanese watercolor cutscenes. The mechanics of the game take a while to get used to and the map helps. There's not a lot of running back and forth in this game, and not a lot of locations. The HOs were pretty hard. There's several types of them, the standard list with some interaction; silhouettes which were quite hard as the items are Japanese themed and the silhouette might be of a little piece of artwork on a teapot, very hard to spot. There was also one where you replace objects. You could set the hint to refill fairly fast, I did and I used it a lot, lol. I figured out right away I wasn't going to get the achievement for no hints! The puzzles were mostly pretty easy with a few harder ones thrown in. The storyline was sad but good, a teenage girl was sent to go work in a factory but takes off for the big city in search of her geisha birthmother instead. The biggest obstacle you face is your father, but you persist until the conclusion of the adventure. Long playing adventure good for use with game credit...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! I loved this game so much and didn't want it to end. The graphics are beautiful and so is the music. I loved the storyline too, it was corny or full of illuminati symbols like most games are! It did crash a couple of times, but that's probably my pc as it gets hammered lol! It's the kind of game I could play and play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Geisha, I Loved This Game! I liked this game a lot. The story setting and the characters are distinctive -- a small Japanese farm and village, and a young geisha-in-training, the geisha mistress, a teashop owner and her son, a seamstress, and more. The artwork and music are refreshing, out of the ordinary, and very beautiful. There are clues available and a transporting map! Also voiceovers and a locking inventory! The game play is fairly simple, although I did need to use the hint a few times during the demo. HOS are mixed as are the puzzles and not especially difficult. However, this game held my interest all the way through the demo much more than some of the more complex games, and I would very much like to see more from this developer. It's a definite buy for me!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful game... truly for the whole familly The graphics are gorgeous; most voice over was wonderful [especially the male voice actors were 'believable and in keeping with the script of a Japanese tale] which unfolded into a nice storyline [for a change]; and appeared to me that the entire game was created with cultural respect and enlightenment in mind [again, more family themed versus strictly adult, yet I enjoyed it completely]. Yes it is very different from the as per usual here.... and that's a good thing in my experience of late. Low key and lovely.... this game is for a quiet afternoon or tired night when you want a calm, gentle story to end the day. I enjoyed it very much.... filled with puzzles and varied HOP. Thumbs up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Enough For A Second Look This game has good potential but still needs work. I enjoyed the story of the young girl who was kidnapped and has to find her geisha mother. The voices are obviously not Japanese, but still okay. The story is what caught my interest and some of the scenery is beautiful. Pros: 4 game modes, including custom Map, not interactive, and journal Achievements and collectibles (origami) Interactive HOs and different types of HOs Cherry Blossoms to indicate HOs Puzzles were interesting, I skipped a couple just to get back to the story Storyline held my attention to the end of the trial Cons: Drawn scenes not always the best The game didn't always flow as smoothly as it should It wasn't always clear what the next step should be Overall, I like it and will probably buy it. I think it's a diamond in the rough, with more development it could have been a really great game, but it's still worth trying. And I would like to find out if our runaway heroine finds her mother.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from something different Really nice game. I loved the simple graphics, it really took me to Japan. A nice and soft sweet and "small story" game. no big ghosts and stuff. Very cultural. You have to adjust to the easy pace of it but it is worth it. The settings are beautiful and I loved the painted graphics. I loved it. In the end some rush therefore just 4 stars. Definitely worth playing ... against all those witches, ghosts, demons. Beautiful love story

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 60 min.demo, map worthless, puzzles hard for me, try it New developer for me; did not find the map helpful; loved the storyline; had to use Hint more than I like to find out where to go; 34 origami to collect and easy to find; HOs were fun; puzzles hard and need more time to figure out; I suggest you try this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Way too slow Visually I thought this game was beautiful...and different from the norm. The storyline also had potential. After 30 minutes however I just found it painfully slow, such a pity!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Visually Stunning Someone obviously read "Memoirs of a Geisha", and thought "that would be a really good idea for a game". Some drawbacks: the map and journal are not interactive and the characters are not "alive" when they speak; no facial movements etc. If you're used to more of a 3D environment in your games, then you may find this one a bit of a disappointment. Some pluses: The artwork and soundtrack are amazing and really make you feel like you are inside the Kyoto geisha quarter. The puzzles are challenging and the bonus objects are easy to find. If there ever is a collector's edition I would hope that they add extra material about the role of the geisha and their place in Japanese society. Otherwise, this is a thoroughly enjoyable game.
