Two weeks after the events of Nightmare Adventures: The Witch's Prison, Kiera Vale finds herself drawn back into a web of occult sciences, mysterious dark entities, and government secrets -- woven by the agency known as A.R.C.A.N.E.. Kiera is happy to receive the call, but soon after her arrival finds that things are not at all how she remembers them to be. What are these agents hiding, and why didn't they tell her the whole story? What is the true nature of the Blackwater "Witch"? Why is Dr. Thorn's young daughter locked up in a containment cell? From the top secret labs in the depths of A.R.C.A.N.E.'s headquarters to the distant spires of alien worlds, Ms. Vale will seek answers, solve cryptic puzzles, banish evil otherdimensional creatures, and perhaps even make a new friend over a game of Piggy Princess along the way, in Nightmare Adventures: The Turning Thorn.

Nightmare Adventures: The Turning Thorn is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 103.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Witty and Intelligent Nightmare Adventures: Turning Thorn is one of the top ten games I have played from Big Fish out of hundreds I own. The graphics are crisp. Many objects when clicked yield a witty and intelligent remark that adds richness or back story even if the object is otherwise not in play. In addition, you can try to use objects inappropriately for a comment specific to that decision. My character, Keira, point blank refused to use a baseball bat to break the windows in her own house; she later explained why several objects would not work as lever with differing reasons specific to each choice. This an admirable level of attention to detail from the writers at Ghost Ship Studios. I like a challenge and the puzzles are challenging enough for me. The written in game notes are clear and often humorous. For example, a note early on from a repairman involving an elaborate reset a code to operate a phone that calls down to a secret facility includes the lament, “Next time we replace this, could we try—you know—a button?” This is the second time I have played Turning Thorn, and I have gone back to a Windows 7 laptop to do so. The game is running well and without glitches. Nightmare Adventures: Turning Thorn is a gem. I hope we will see a third addition to this series that shows the same skill. Turning Thorn puts the usual sloppy writing and slapdash graphics of ordinary casual games to shame.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best puzzle games in history! This is a dream of a game for puzzle lovers. You really have to use your brain and it has none of them irritating HOS (yippi!). It is how they used to make proper puzzle games that I miss oh, so much. This is a challenge, and I love challenges. Great length, super storyline. I LOVE THIS GAME and wish there were more of these. If you like puzzles, this is a MUST have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't wait for the story to continue! Now that Kiera has learned the secret her family kept, her eyes have been opened to a world she never dreamed existed. As she helps the scientists continue their research, she again finds there's a dark and terrible secret behind it all. Just like the first Nightmare Adventure, this game has excellent music, engaging graphics, and a story that will keep you playing to find answers. Again, great re-play value even after you've solved the mystery!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not your typical game. This is a very different game. Less fantasy and more real world mystery game. Interesting storyline and mini games. It played like a CC edition game. This may be an older game as the options can't be changed, like the skip bar - it took forever to load.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plenty of brainpower needed - but worth it I particularly enjoyed that I wasn't being spoon fed on this game. You need to have played "The Witch's Prison" (the precursor) to fully enjoy the nicely joined-up story line here, but it works in its own right too. The puzzles are predominantly hybrids of generic types, but each time the developers have gone to considerable trouble in adding some twist or new spin on each one, thereby heightening a sense of novelty. The creepy semi-abandoned research facility is by no means a new environment for games of this type, but there are sufficient twists and turns to keep the experience fresh and involving. For players who want guiding by the hand through a game with few challenges along the way, this isn't for you. If, on the other hand, you enjoy a sense of genuine achievement on completing several ingeniously challenging puzzles and conundrums, I recommend this game highly - there's plenty to keep you engaged and entertained for hours on end (especially if you resist the "skip game" button!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved the challenge!! This game is fantastic. A true adventure game. The puzzles are both unique and truly challenging. Some, I would even call tough. Lately, it seems that most games spoon feed you, telling you everything so you don't have to think at all. I love that this game doesn't come even close to doing that. The use of the photos holding clues to the puzzles is such a unique idea. You can even access the photos while you are doing the puzzle. If you want a challenge, then this game is for you!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More like this, please! I love this sort of game: no HOS, lots of tricky puzzles, non-stylised graphics. If only there were more of them, rather than the myriad of hidden object games, which are often too easy and unoriginal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprise surprise When I played this game, I noticed a leap in graphics quality! The game seemed to show a development that suggested a radical advancement in the industry as a whole.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely fantastic straight adventure 4 adventure game lovers... First of all, HOW did I miss this game when it came out!? THIS game is a true straight adventure as mentioned in my title... H0G addicts will probably NOT like this; those of you who enjoy the real challenge of difficult puzzles and storyline with a great plot and follow-through will love it. The dialogue throughout the game is more sophisticated and intense than most games on BFG and more like reading a really good novel than playing a casual game and that is precisely why I absolutely loved every moment of gameplay. Graphics were well done with commentary on environment [another feature I admire] which created a more intense gaming experience. I also enjoyed the music and sound. Again, not for everyone but those of you out there [like me] who love to be immersed in context versus fluff and nonsense will find The Turning Thorn to be an incredible and creepy world to lose yourself in for a while. I did play the first episode of this game, Nightmare Adventures, The Witch's Prison, yet you don't necessarily have to play it in order to pick up on this, the second in the series. Highly recommended and, wow, would be thrilled if another game by this developer would come our way [as if]. Happy gaming, have fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent game! This is not an HOG...the only HOS in the game is when you hack in to a computer and are forced to play along for 60 seconds (just like in the first game). This sequel has better voiceovers and much more interactive stuff than the first one but I highly recommend to play the first one first since it contains so much info and is really great! This is NOT a game for children but it is a really great scary game for adults!
