Portal of Evil: Stolen Runes Collector's Edition is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Family Legacy....the Helsings! Complete CE: Story: Vanessa is having bad dreams. To get answers she must find her grandfather who has disappeared in his search for missing seals. As Vanessa follows the trail left by her grandfather she learns the purpose of the seals, meets interesting people and finds there is a traitor in the Order who guards the gate of evil. Visit beautiful sites with clear graphics. Listen to a wonderful music score. Solve a variety of different puzzles and inactive HOs. Become immersed in a story filled with adventure, mystery and lots to do. Though this game was from 2013 I really enjoyed. The CE is worth the bonus chapter. I do hope they make another one in this series that is just as good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent game so deserving of 5 stars all the way around! My review is based on playing the demo in casual mode. This game has been around for several years but I never saw it before. I happened across it because a reviewer that I respect and usually agree with highly recommended it so I thought I'd give it a go. Wow, am I glad I did! I generally give 4 stars across the board to very good games and save the 5 star rating for exceptional games. This one rates 5 stars. The visuals were amazing. Crisp and clear, close to cinematic quality. I loved looking around because it felt so real. I kept having the craziest impulse to touch my screen to test the texture of things I saw. It felt like stone would be rough and cold for example. Even the pigeons seemed very real. Then there was sound. The sounds complemented the visuals. At no time did the sound overwhelm the scenes but it always enhanced them. An excellent job of setting the stage for the emotions one would feel if one were actually exploring an old cathedral or seeing ghostlike visions or demons, etc. Between the realistic sights and sounds I found myself feeling more trepidation as the demo progressed, not knowing what was going to be around the next corner or in the next room. Excellent job done by the devs! The puzzles were good and some fairly hard. I don't like to spend too much time on puzzles during a demo so I don't eat up all my time on just a puzzle or two (if they are hard ones, that is) so I ended up skipping a couple of them. When I buy the game I will start all over so I can attack those puzzles I skipped. They were challenging and I want to see if I can solve them myself. The HOS's were not strictly list types. They had some where they give you the items and you put them back in the scene where they should belong. A few of the items I really had to think about where they should belong. That was fun. All in all I really enjoyed the demo and have this on my list of games to purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TEN STARS! SUPERIOR HIGHEST QUALITY GAMING! This 2015 gem is by far one of the best here on BFG ever! Plot is strategic and exceptionally well developed. Everything about Stolen Runes is extraordinary especially when gamers enjoy a refreshing challenge! Map was a must as no skips or hints were utilized to fully appreciate superior pc gaming. Game is very lengthy as well as lengthy bonus content. Minus present day tawdry bells and whistles, superb hand drawn scenes are breath taking and the cut scenes are amazing especially compared with today's cookie cutter mass productions. You will understand as soon as you play, so why wait? Totally recommend the CE. Gamers don't want to miss one second of exciting Portal of Evil: Stolen Runes! Tremendous job well done by 8 Floor Games! Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVED IT!!! I have to say I enjoyed this game a lot more than I originally thought I would. I just figured this would be the same old thing in terms of runes and orders but I was wrong. These are the same developers who do the nonogram games and other puzzlers so I was surprised that they did such a good job on this hidden object game. The plot line is actually interesting. I genuinely wanted to know who the bad guy was and my judgement was lacking in that area. Had no idea until the end. The only bad thing about the plot line is that without the bonus chapter, you will have no idea what really happened as the entire conclusion is in the bonus chapter. I really HATE when developers do that. But since I have the Collector's Edition, I got a really, really well done and LONG game. Did I mention long? There are only 4 seals to get but in each location you have A LOT of tasks to complete and so it takes quite awhile to finish this game. I'd have to say, it probably took me over 6-7 hours to finish it. The problem with buying the Collector's Edition is that there are not many extras except the bonus chapter and replaying games & listening to music. There are no collectibles unless you count 15 messages your grandpa left you and I have to say, they are well blended in and I missed the majority of them. Too bad because it advances the story a little more with background. There are no achievements either. The hidden object scenes in this game were sooo fun and interactive! You have the interactive list of items but the 2nd time you encounter a scene, you have put back the objects and its kind of hard due to smaller items in the scenes. I liked the challenge and I loved the variety but I am a huge fan of putting back the items in general in hidden object games. The puzzles were another great part of the game. There are some that are mind numbingly easy BUT there are also a lot of mini games that are a bit taxing. I loved the mini games and as a puzzle lover, was satisfied with how many there were as sometimes I don't find there are enough. This game was abundant with puzzles. It was awesome. The map is probably the best part about this game though. If there wasn't a map, this game would probably take you weeks to finish because its not linear. You go to other worlds but you need to visit the original world at the same time so you go back and forth a lot. I played in expert and it didn't have sparkles, hints & skips loaded slowly but not turtle slow. You can turn the map help off by unchecking the box on the map itself. It takes a bit of time to find the map though (I hope I am not mixing this up with another game I just played). Once you get the map though, its a lifesaver!!! I love this game and rate it 5 stars which is rare for me! I hate that the bonus chapter has the ending but I liked this game enough that I would have bought the collector's edition again even knowing how poor the extras are. That is how good the story line is that I didn't mind not having the extras. The graphics in this game are also stunning! The main character looks real and kind of like the woman in the Art Of Murder Large File Adventure Games series and even walks like her too! The voice overs are done very well in this game too. People actually speak like they are scared or angry instead of monotone. This is a winner. I definitely recommend. Wait for a BOGO and get this game as the freebie so you won't feel cheated out of the extras. Its worth it, trust me! It also sets the stage for a sequel and I so hope they make it! BTW...this has vampires, purgatory, the devil, references to good and evil, devil worship, skulls, occult type things and is for adults. IF any of this offends you, you will not like this game. Just a heads up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spellbinding! For those reviewers who for some reason don't like this game-you must be asleep! This is without doubt one of the all time great games. The storyline is all too familiar, but the game itself had me hooked after a slow start. Beautiful artwork, brilliant landscapes, and spellbinding game play. I hope Floor8 develop more games of this genre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutly Wonderful This game reminded me so much of the games I grew up on, So unlike the usual games one buys here. The graphics were amazing, the music was beautiful and I am even thrilled with the pointer (which is one of the best I have ever seen). The story was not necessarily new but it was a great rewrite of an old idea, and the methods of solving it was more fun than I have had in an HOS in a while. This game also kept the sounds enjoyable instead of overwhelming like most games. I know I pick on that a lot, but its strange how you might not notice it until you turn the game off and find yourself with a headache how annoying a game's background sounds can be, and turning them off isn't always a solution. The bonus chapter was well worth the extra, as well. It was long without being boring, it was a little heavy on the HOS but still great. I will add that it isn't worth getting the SE because the bonus chapter directly ties into the main story in a critical way (no spoilers) and the SE is not complete without it, This game is ideal for anyone who enjoys a good adventure!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! what a fantastic game!! One of the best ever in my opinion! Oh wow, I just finished playing this game and absolutely LOVED it!! I'm deeply impressed by the beauty of this game, but also the storyline is great! This game has just entered my top 5!! The graphics are so incredibly nice, very very sharp and enormously detailled and mesmerizing! I really stopped at each new scene (and there are a lot of them!# to admire the new view. The voiceovers and the way the story is told are incredibly well done. You get drawn into the story from the very first second and nails you to your chair! You won't leave until you know how this story ends. The cutscenes are intriguing and very well done, you'll love them! I have to advize you choose the CE, because the ending is much more satisfying! But there is nothing extra special like achievements or collectibles #although there are 15 notes from your grandfather to collect, but they are also in the SG#, which is a shame. But still, there has been done so much work to this game, the endless attention to detail is really incredible, and thus more than worth it's CE price! In some cases it's practical to have the SG at hand, I needed it about twice. All in all, I had about 7 hours #including bonus) of mesmerizing fun, and hope you will too! Have fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gameplay, super story, glorious graphics, intensely immersive! Portal of Evil: Stolen Runes Collector's Edition Review based on full game IN THE BEGINNING... For centuries, the Order of Light has guarded the Portal of Evil against opening every 600 years. That event is prevented by the seven seals, several of which have been stolen by a traitor to the Order, and scattered throughout time. You are the last in line of the Van Helsing family, members of the Order of Light since its inception. Since your grandfather, Abraham, has gone missing, it's now up to you not only to find him, but also to find the missing seals and return them to the Portal, lest Evil be loosed upon the world. Bonus Adventure: Capture the traitor. PLAY THE GAME... Stolen Runes plays like a first-person adventure game nicely interspersed with HO scenes, puzzles, and mini-games. There's a lot to do and remember, many areas to explore, and lots of items to collect and use. The HO scenes are of two types: interactive list and return items to their places. The puzzles and mini-games are mostly familiar: concentration, wedge and ring jigsaws, etc. SIGHTSEEING… Wow. The graphics and animation are impeccable. Realistic textures adorn artistic landscapes. Brilliant colors shade to moody monotones as the tone of the game changes. Light and shadow add realism to each scenario. Even the poser work is amazing. SOUND WAVES… The music is really beautiful, worthy of being downloaded. I recommend turning it up, as it truly adds to immersion. Voiceovers are quite well done. TOOLBOX… The map notes active areas and transports, both utterly necessary functions as the game area is rather large and there are quite a few actions in each area that you cannot accomplish immediately. The journal tracks the story and notes clues, again necessary. Inventory is lockable. EXTRA, EXTRA… As noted, there is a bonus adventure, which does revisit some areas but also adds new areas. You can also replay the puzzles and mini-games, and there are the usual offerings of wallpapers and such. There are no collectibles, morphing objects, or achievements to be found, but I believe Stolen Runes to be worthy of CE status nonetheless because of its length, complexity, and replay value. THE LAST WORD… Brilliant and beautiful. Buy it. I'm already drooling for the sequel, and for more from this developer.
