Legacy Tales: Mercy of the Gallows is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MOVING AND BEAUTIFUL GHOSTLY TALE Available at BFG since 2013 Review based on completed game. Beautifully transformed real images, with a ghostly feel. A love story, and not disturbing; more of a spooky investigative experience. You'll find yourself outdoors, with rain and ominous skies, a seaside mansion with tons of rooms to explore, full of all its furniture, and the Batavia – the Captain's ship. (Warning - Be prepared to scan the scenes for required pirate coins. The coins are of all sizes, some are easily visible and others are not. Personally, I enjoyed the treasure hunt. You can use up a hint to find one.) GRAPHICS - Widescreen or Fullscreen. Brightness can also be adjusted. Natural colors. HOPS: 15-18 HOPS Wordlists and at least 1 silhouette. BEAUTIFUL real images and items. PUZZLES: All skippable SOUNDS - with 3 adjustments: Music/Ambience/Speech. Great sounds and music. A lot of weather sounds, like rain and the waves. MAP: TRAVEL with invaluable markers, including where gold coins remain to be found. You are free to wander within the game to any scene once you have unlocked it. JOURNAL: YES DIFFICULTY SETTINGS – 2 – NOT interchangeable. In "Difficult", there are NO sparkles or glints. HINT: Mainly written hints. However you do get further guidance with specifics if you use the Hint again. You won't be told what item to use from the inventory. 30 seconds to recharge in Casual, 90 seconds in Difficult. INVENTORY – Lockable CHARACTERS: Captain William narrates notes that are found. You can speed up this portion of the dialogue (it's nice how they fade out!). The cutscenes are few, and only last seconds. Nice voices. I was sad when this game ended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I sat glued to the screen I have never reviewed a game but this one begged for it. What a beautiful, fun, clever, and delightful game this is, from beginning to end. I've played over 300 games from BF and enjoyed most, but this one stood out and I don't know why I missed it before. The game has been described in other reviews so I'll add only a few things. I found the music perfect for the setting: piratey, very well-done, and far better than in many other games. The design was exquisite; I kept stopping my play just to see the detail in each scene. The HOS were mostly game related and again, the scenes were enjoyably detailed. I even enjoyed and finished every puzzle. <g> Now for two of the negatives mentioned in other reviews. First, there are no arrows to show you which way to go. Cursor placement is sensitive, so if there's a direction you are able to go, that arrow is right there letting you know. But it's up to you to follow it. Second, I only had a little trouble finding 2 of the coins, but since the same pattern of placement was used in each scene, it's not that hard to run the cursor around and look for that helpful hand without using the Hint. As always, try it out. It's really worth at least that. And the ending suited me perfectly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Polished Game Great graphics and finding the coins to open the treasure chests is a real piece of innovation. I found all the coins - tricky but achievable. The hidden object scenes are very well done and in keeping with the high quality graphics of the the rest of the game. The game has a good map and all in all is an interesting casual game experience with a good length - it's a game you'll want to finish to see what the story is really about. I downloaded the trial and almost immediately bought it when I saw its quality. Some reviewers have said it's slow but I found it really relaxing and the sound is great too. It's a little gem this one and highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my favorite game I enjoyed this game so much that I bought the CE after playing because I wanted more play time. Loved the music, loved the theme. loved the story line. They should make a movie about it. Wish they would continue the story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really enjoyed it I think this is a great game. It's the first time I've finished a HOG in one sitting. It has a walkthrough, but I didn't need it. The hint button gives good advice when needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have coins will travel! I am giving this a five-star because of the cleverness, the multitude of things to do, and they only way one could move on was to collect those gold coins and insert them into each coin chest, plus all the other things you had to deal with. Lots to do, my goodness! In artwork was great except for some areas were it was rather grainy and that wasn't due to my monitor either. And trying to find those gold coins at times was pretty tricky and difficult. As a matter of fact, at the end of the game I had 4 extra coins leftover. Sometimes the coins would be right in front of your face and other times lodged in walls or shelves or whatever. But the storyline was excellent. The puzzles were a mix of easy and hard I thought. The developers outdid themselves on this one. Worth buying. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Story, intuitive game play I read all these reviews that said the game was slow - but I didn't find it slow at all. An interesting story combined with awesome graphics made this a top game to play. Pros: Coins in every room makes each room a little challenging and interesting, Graphics are lovely to look at and small details in each room are worth checking out.The game never breaks character (no oddly modern stuff) and each task makes sense in a logical way. The story unfolds by chapters and invites the player into the drama. Clicking on items around the room gives even more of the story. Map takes you back and forth easily. Cons: some coins blend in with the environment so well they are hard to see.Toward then end it started getting "room after room after room."
