Differences to the Collector's Edition... :) I loved to play the Collector?s Edition of this one?. Just tried the Standard-Edition to find any differences. This game ends conclusively after 3,5 hours in the 2nd mode. Bonus-chapter offered in the CE is an additional story. Mentionable Extras ONLY available in the CE: lots of achievements, 20 bars of soap to collect: They are needed for your racoon, as it first washes his clothes before wearing them (has nothing to do with the game though), replayable minigames and hidden-object-scenes, strategy guide. There were no hidden object scenes in the first game.. This time we also have 14 HOS, some played twice: slightly interactive from list, searching for silhouettes, 15 related items or 10 pairs. Instead of playing a HOS, you may switch into a minigame. We have 17 minigames/ puzzles, some of them wellknown like rotation-puzzles or sliders and some brandnew ones. In some of them you have the option to choose if you want to play the puzzle casual or hard. Facts: 3 modes plus custom-mode to choose from (you can change the play-mode during the game), 6 chapters, lockable inventory, direction giving hint, map showing active areas and allowing you to jump, detailed journal, a racoon is your helping friend (very funny!) Still a high recommendable adventure, worth a try!! :) September 20, 2013
WHAT THIS GAME DOESN'T HAVE JUST DOESN'T EXIST Love the imagery. The menagerie is fantastically creative. Some of the ERS' developers certainly have a great imagination and their artistic staff is simply outstanding to interpret the environments so stunningly. Smooth gameplay and outrageously gorgeous graphics. Puzzles vary in variety and complexity and HOS are unusually colorful and pleasant to do (no dull drab fall-asleep HOS here). (You can do mini-games if you don't care for HOS.) Lots to do and locations to explore. The story is cohesive and skillfully told. A lot of attention to details and every aspect has been well thought out. Especially like the racoon helper - love that he keeps overeating whenever there's anything edible in sight and you can buy his personalized wardrobe. It's a hoot! This is one of the best games to come out in the recent weeks. As with all ERS games, the production values are exceptional. They must have the best creative staff around. A real pleasure to play. Love This Series! The is the second of the Twilight Phenomena series. They're both 5 star games for me but I have to say the first one was a little better. Both have good graphics, good puzzles, good voice overs, and good music. The second has HOS's, which I'm not crazy about, but I wasn't bombarded with them. This won't be 5 star for some, but I'm basing this rating on how much fun I had with it. I think most will really enjoy this game. I played on hard core mode and never used a hint, but I'm extremely patient and I like to find the solutions myself. I was stuck for a while a couple of times. Just the amount of challenge I like. Great fun... I knew from the moment I heard the first voice-over that this game was going to have to been taken with tongue in cheek. What fun the developers must have had making this! From the Christopher Lloyd looking scientist to the fun time game play, it was 5 star. Graphics and animations were great, HOS pretty much same-on, but the puzzles were somewhat unique and fun to play. Transporter map was kind of useless since it didn't really tell you were the next action was so I used the hint to move around. There were some challenges, but for the most part, just fun to play with its odd storyline and fun characters. The only downer was that dumb raccoon. He was fairly useless and not sure why he was put in. Nice length for a SE and you can Customize the gameplay. Good job devs! A definite 5 out of 5 for me. Don't be so serious about it, just "chill" and have fun! Definitely recommend. August 19, 2015
Loved this game! I really enjoyed playing this. I like the graphics, the puzzles were good, some harder than others. Once I started, I could not stop and it was quite a long game. Highly recommended! August 23, 2015
STRANGE PHENOMENA IN MEXICO! This is a good game, but it won't blow your socks off. A sinister doctor has been experimenting with crossing animal DNA but has gone one step further by injecting several animals DNA into your cousin! In the CE version you will earn clothing for a raccoon that has befriended you and when you collect 5 items of the ensemble then you can change outfits. With the SE you still befriend the hungry critter but no outfits to don. This is a pretty easy game to figure out and there really aren't any HOS but rather a find 15 items that the Myan Indians didn't use or a progressive silhouetted item where you find the shadowed items and then use those items in the scene. The graphics aren't the best either but there are a lot of pastel colors to brighten up the game. Mini games are fairly simple and many of them have a casual or hard setting which makes it nice and you can choose a customized game difficulty which is another feature I liked. Enjoy! Engaging & Fun BASED ON FULL DEMO I loved ?Calavera: Day Of The Dead?, did you? If the answer is yes, you are sure to like this one. It has that same offbeat style, and Central American locales and theme, done as only ERS can do. If, however, you are a great fan of the first ?Twilight Phenomena?, you may not be so excited about finding HO scenes in this one. But they?re colourful and varied, with the option to play an interesting and challenging mini-game instead, and well-integrated into the game world. The other puzzles are also varied and enjoyable, and I didn?t find any of them either too difficult or too easy, there is a nice mix. The adventure gameplay can be a bit odd at times, but there is a directional hint, and an interactive jump map, plus the journal. We also have an assistant (yes, he?s cute, and funny, and in the CE version, you can dress him up in costumes). He is not helpful, though, unless you feed him! The game also has many options for you to customise the difficulty level regarding sparkles, black bar help, hint and skip. The game starts with a character breathlessly telling us of the trouble she has found herself in ? which turns out to be becoming an willing part of an experiment using the DNA of animals in humans. For once, we arrive at the scene without having crash landed something, with a simple page of paper outside the front of the house our friend is, presumably, in. Our arrival is a bit daunting anyway though, as the occupant of the house shoots a tranquiliser dart at us! I am still of two minds about whether the CE or SE is the better game. I guess in the end it comes down to how much you enjoy the bells and whistles of achievements and collectibles and dressing up the raccoon. September 23, 2013
I liked it fun to play ERS can make great games and this one is just as good. Fun to play. Not really hard at all. Hint button works great, has a map. Puzzles are good and the HOS are also good. Not that many HOS. Has voice over and good graphics. Good fun game. I have played all of them and this one is a little different in play but still good. This game is really pretty easy. Different in a good way! I liked twist with the combination of animal DNA. You can also choose what help you can get or none at all in the custom mode. It's not always spelled out what to do next, which is why I liked it. The graphics are a bit pedestrian. But all in all it's a good game. September 20, 2013
Twiligiht Phenomena 2 better than the first edition... Twilight Phenomena: Strange Menagerie has a similar tropical, exotic theme as the first game (the Lodgers of House 13) but this time it sets in Mexico. Your cousin has contacted you before she went missing, as you arrived at the place, you discovered some weird animals and plant species as well as a mad scientist conducting a suspicious experiment. As expected, you have to stop the experiment and save your cousin before she mutates. The storyline here is definitely not the game's strongest feature as it is terribly unoriginal and I actually got a little bored with it. I would not say the graphics in Twilight Phenomena 2 are 'awesome' either. They are not bad, visuals are clear and scenes are nice-looking but they are very old school, the locations are not very interesting as we have all seen them before and they can be much more detailed. The voice overs are nice enough and the music is not irritating but is not something particularly good. The gameplay is very predictable ERS-G style, easy and straightforward. You have to walk back and forth or jump between scenes using the interactive-map and completing repetitive, uninspiring, sometimes frustrating tasks. Luckily, the developer did add some extra features to spice up the plainness of the game. There are Collectibles as well as Achievements and a rather annoying Raccoon companion as it constantly pops up on the screen. Let's move on from the bad to the good. I found the interactive Hidden Object scenes in this HOPA sequel to be extremely well done. You can switch between Hidden Object mode and Hexagonal Rotating Puzzle mode. There are also various different types of HO scenes to complete although many of them are junk-pile liked. Moreover, the puzzles are very good. They might not be absolutely original but they are at least, fun to play and you can even change the difficulty in some of the puzzles. Another feature we like about this game is the Custom Difficulty mode where you can fully customize the game's difficulty along with other three preset modes. The length of the main game is not really long and ends in some kind of a rush. The Bonus Chapter is nothing really remarkable. Other Extras including some obvious stuff like Strategy Guide, Wallpapers, Screensavers, Concept Art, Soundtracks, replayable cutscenes, Hidden Object scenes, Mini-Games and the unnecessary ability to change the Raccoon's outfit. Twilight Phenomena: Strange Menagerie is surely not ERS's strongest work. It is not a bad game to play and in my opinion it's a nice addition to my collection. I think casual gamers of all levels should give this one a play. August 21, 2015
