Dark Sisterhood: The Initiation is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 56.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from ***20 HOPS***5* based on enjoyment factor*** (Game available at BFG since 2013) Not 2016 bling. THIS game, kept my interest the entire way through. Woods, church, cemetery, caves, lodgings and more. Outdoors a lot. Another lovely, moonlit night with ominous looking clouds and intermittent thunder. I liked the weird characters and story line. The story has a few surprises in it. Witch hunters in the era of the first settlers. Are they justified or is it mass hysteria? Rescue a little girl caught up in it all. These are not “bling” graphics, but you know I LIKE playing different styles of graphics. If it’s the same thing all the time, it’s like having dessert for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I think a BFG club member would definitely enjoy this game on an offer or coupon. Especially if you don’t like being hand-fed. GRAPHICS: Very mixed, overall grainy look, sometimes pretty clear, sometimes artsy with light and shade, sometimes a bit obscure looking. Generally I didn’t have trouble with visibility. Not sure how this game would look on an ultra-modern computer. FULL SCREEN only. HOPS: 20 - Wordlists and FROGS (fragmented objects). A lot of the HOPS have good visibility; often 1 or 2 per scene had me stumped. The Trouble I found with the FROGS is that once you’ve collected an item there’s not always a clear indicator you’ve got it; Something wooden and brown will turn gray, but a piece of iron will look the same! PUZZLES: Very do-able and enjoyable (not difficult). SOUNDS: 2. Music totally separate (oh joy!). HINT: 40 seconds to recharge on Casual. WRITTEN hint only. But very direct, where to go and what to get. DIFFICULTY LEVELS: 2 MAP: TRAVEL . BUT there are NO indicators. INVENTORY: LOCKABLE JOURNAL: YES. CHARACTERS: Interesting mix. Mostly you are on your own. You have characters to help so that they help you in return. They’re all given specific personalities which I liked…all a bit crazy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I liked this game The natural and Quirky graphics are outstanding - allthough the hidden object scenes really are not too good. I loved the choosable ending where I decide how the game ends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and unusual Based on the trial. A definite buy for me. A change from the usual HOG mechanical clones, with an engaging story with a mystery. Her friend is not a witch but there is evil magic afoot. Truly spooky. didn't want to stop playing. Hand drawn art.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A darn good SE HOG/HOPA, that isn't a SE of a CE! After reading many bad reviews, and calling this HOPA old school, I was scratching my head looking at the screenshots and watching the video! Since when is "Old School" a year or 2 ago?! I had to try for myself, and as I knew I would, I loved it! The graphics and storyline, are great! A teeny but pixelated, but much better as you go further into the game. (As I played I thought to myself..Am I playing the same game here?!) The opening scenes and voice overs are top notch. Nothing at all like most "Old school games." You play a friend of a perscuted "Witch" who must save her Daughter Lily (My DDs name, how endearing for me!) There is a diary and a Map. You have an inventory and it plays much more like a Adventure that a plain ol HOG! You can talk to people you meet along the way, so the voice overs continue in gameplay not just the opening scene. Some of the Mini-Games quite unique and I liked them, even though they're not my favorite part of a HOG. So that says a lot! I had no problems clicking or placing anything and bought this up in a snap! At 3/4 of 1gig again, this is no way like the old games that were 100-200MBs or even less! I'm thrilled to see a well done SE that is NOT one of a CE! My PCCs can be used, hooray! We've seen quite a few SE HOGs like this lately, so Mine are not expiring or gathering dust anymore. Even if I did not have one, I'd still buy this game, or spend a game credit on it. The only conclusion that I can come to, as to why some high quality SE games (esp HOGs/IHOGs/HOPAs) are being given bad reviews; is that they are being compared to CE games. No there is no Bonus Play, Screen Savers and all that. But that's not what is in a TRUE SE game! I own almost every single HOG on this site, including CEs. To me comparing a CE to a TRUE SE is Apples and Oranges! Also, in my opinion, "Old School HOG/HOPA" means, it is a straight one; no story, or a small one, no voice overs, story animated scenes and is 5-6 years back. Even those I still enjoy every now and then, when I want to just relax, not look in a SG or need a walk through. But, this is NOT one of them in any way at all!! Speaking of, I found the game to be of a fair challange (and I consider myself an Expert level player), without too much hand holding. You can choose a from a casual (hints refill faster, skips and sparkles) or Advanced (No skips, slow hints and a random click penalty), so you can play the game as you like. It filled my laptop screen just fine. Oh, and NO, my screenname has nothing to do with my rating of the game. Although, just as some really like Farming, Romance or Dash etc etc game Genres.. I do love a good "dark tale" and themes of Magic and Withcraft, esp based on the History of the "Witch Hunts", also Murder, Detective Mystery, Fantasy, Asylum or "Occult" (I deeply dislike that word and think some great games, have gotten a bad rap, or just outright slammed due to it's use.) Yes the game/plot contains some Magic/Spell/Witchcraft/Dark themes. Sort of reminds me of several "Salem" story SE HOGs I played, and it's graphics are just as good if not better then they were! Some of thhose didn't even have the well done voice over's this game has. Again, Old School it is not! In fact, this game could have been a CE with a little more work. If a must compare, from "back in the day".. lol that being the first CEs, or a few great SEs of several HOG "Must Haves" we all loved before CEs were offered twice a week. Some of which, became and lead to great CE series games. This could be one of them. I can't wait to see if the ending leaves room for a sequel! My hats off to the Developers, that I've not seen before. I hope to see more games from them!! But. Don't let me be your guide. If you enjoy a good HOPA, with good graphics, voice overs, great charectors, a well done story (I thought the storyline scenes were very high quality for a SE) and have PCCS to use.. You'll def want to give this one a try and decide for yourself! Unless the theme bothers you, I'm betting many find this a great SE game and use up a PCC that so many of us have to use! Though I am in sheer heaven and hope to see more SE HOGs like it, my PCCs are always waiting for one and I'm giddy with delight to see one as a TGT! If you can't tell already by my review (LOL).. I highly recommend this game!! I'm leaping with joy to have a SE HOG/HOPA come out on a Bonus Punch Monday that I can use a PCC on! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU again to the Developers!! Great Job on a HOPA! Please keep more of these HOPA SEs coming, esp in this Genre! There are a lot of fish that enjoy them and are hungry for more!! Happy Gaming Fishes! ;)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Was Just Okay, But I Liked It! This was purchased as a Daily Deal for $2.99 so after reading some very bad reviews I played the demo and to my surprise I was willing to buy it. I'm not sorry I did. There are a lot of things most may not be able to adjust to. For instance the HOS are list and image find -- the scenes are bleak as are all the visuals of this game but there is a hint button which I used often and there is a good walk through provided by BF. Many of the objects are hard to find simply because of the dingy visuals. I turned down the music. This hint button works outside the HOS -- sometimes good information sometimes not. There is a very good transporting map. The story is chopped up into about 5 segments. You have 3 quests to find in each segment. I played in the casual mode and everything I needed to look at was highlighted with sparkles. The story line is a little weak. Your friend has sent you a letter to rescue her daughter on an island. When you arrive your friend, Bloom, has been hanged for witchcraft and her daughter, Lily, is missing. The citizens are looking for Lily, as they believe she is a witch too. There is a lot of drag time in this game. For that reason I almost didn't buy it. It sometimes became so tedious I almost quit, but I persevered. After completing a puzzle you will have to back out. At the end there is a long dialogue which you may want to skip after the talking stops because the written dialogue takes a while to scroll through the screen. This game just isn't as polished as more modern games. Play the demo and read some reviews. I hope this was a bit helpful. Thanks for reading.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Spooky Stuff A great SE that wasn't a CE. I love these soft releases and just got a chance to demo this one. It was a buy for me. The story line is creepy with witches, and black magic, but I like that. I didn't find the graphics grainy. It's a dark game, but in subject and play. The HOS are well done. You get quests to do to appease the townspeople. It was a very short demo, so I'm assuming the game itself isnt too long. That's ok though. I am enjoying the game immensely. It's so nice to play something different and unique instead of the cookie cutter usuals that are released.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dark Sisterhood The Initiation This game is fantastic. I'm writing this review because people I've come to respect on the review page who are almost always right are dead wrong this time. My friend in Turkey is just way off base this time . The story line is fantastic the graphics are perfect for the atmosphere, and someone said the people are ugly. Well I suppose if you live in perfect town everyone you know is beautiful and perfect. If you live in reality town as most of us do no one is perfect ! I expected to see monstrosities instead I only saw regular people who aren't fairy tale perfect, but who are acceptable as human beings. Since when did gamers become so snobbish? Just try the demo if your like me it's a definite buy .I think you'll love it .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't write it off until you try it for yourself! I really liked this game. No it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some other games, but the sure sign for me of a good game is when I can't stop playing it! That was the case with this one, I was totally immersed in it! I didn't care that the puzzles were easy, and in fact the HOs were not so straightforward all the time. Some of the items were very well hidden and they were varied which was good. You also had to think about what to do next which personally is a must for me. All in all I think this game has been rather harshly judged - and whilst I usually pay close attention to reviews - in this case, play the demo and judge for yourself please!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Make sure you pick up all the items in HOS I truly liked the story and the game play. The first time I played, I didn't get the ladder and could not check out the glittering object... I do play casual, since I'm not an expert player, I want to be able to skip the mini games in case I can't get it. The first HOS I encountered for the Reverend Quest required that I find the fragmented items. I didn't get everything and accidentally backed out of the HOS. I went ahead and placed the church sign and talked to the Reverend, and could not get back to the scene to pick up the rest of the items. So just a word of advice... get everything before you leave the scene! Not sure if it is just for this one, or any others. I had to restart the game! The story and quests for finding items are pretty cool. I like the game, and plan to purchase just for the story. I like the fragmented items, but I've been finding things by being clicky... I know, it's cheating. The demo ends after the second quest for the graveyard attendant, and that one was interesting. Truly a great story, can't wait to see how it plays out. Yes, I'm buying it, even with the glitch, that is how interesting it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun but dark First, this is a dark game. It deals with the witch scares in the 17th century and even had one person put to death before the beginning of the game that is refencened. Magic and witchcraft are also much in evidence. If this bothers you, do not buy the game. The HO are of two types, standard and find the pieces. There are not click penalties on either. There is A LOT of conversation and you have to finish “tasks” for several of the characters for you to advance. There are the standard mini games. They are not too hard and the skip comes up fairly quickly. My main annoyance is the hint. It about a minute to recharge, even if it tells you that there is nothing that you can do in scene. And this is in the easy mode. All in all, a nice way to kill a few hours, but not 5 star material.
