Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land Collector's Edition 4.1 5 44 44
Truly Loved It! Review based on completed CE game and completed bonus chapter on the casual setting: I normally choose to play darker games than this, but I truly loved this game from start to finish, I would count it in my top 20% of games and I have played 300+. The gameplay was a decent mix of adventure, HOPS (varied somewhat) and puzzles (mostly pretty easy), at different points in the game you learn various spells that help you along your way but they don't help you too much as some spells in games do. The gameplay flowed naturally and was instinctive. The map allows you to travel easily to all the locations you have already visited and the maps the shows areas you need to visit. The spell book shows your current task, but there is diary, but I didn't miss it. The hint and skip filled very quickly on casual & the inbuilt strategy guide was easy to access & navigate (I needed to access it once only#. I really liked the audio tracks #I generally play with headphones on so that I am fully immersed in the game#, the graphics were very good, they were not childish or to garish/pastel etc. and they were nice and crisp. The storyline was between average and good, but the gameplay made up for any shortcomings, the main game had a decent conclusion and the bonus game was a separate game but which led on nicely from the main game. There are no morphing objects etc. to collect in the CE edition, the bonus features on top of the bonus chapter are a quiz based on the game #fun), replay options on the HOPS and the puzzles, concept art etc. there is also the lost pages which was actually quite fun to read and quite humorous. Some reviewers have complained that this game is short, I personally didn't find it so, the main game gave me about 5 hours gameplay and the bonus chapter gave me a further 45 minutes to an hour of gameplay, but I personally not to rush through games and prefer to play at a more sedate pace. I truly enjoyed this game, and would highly recommended it others. September 16, 2014
Havenwick Dome Hold on to your computer chair folks this game is awesome! The Vulture banished your mother to the Shadow Realm and sealed the entire city of Havenwick under an impenetrable dome, now 25 years later your powers have emerged and it's time to learn how to cast spells! You will need to find hidden Ancient Runes throughout the domed city, once you have found the correct amount for each spell you need to complete a mini game of connecting symbols by rotating segments until there are no open ends. There are several spells to acquire that will allow you to fix broken items, rejuvenate dying plants, heal animals and more, your powers must be used to help others. There are a ton of activities in each location, and plenty of inventory items to pick up and use as well. There aren't too many Hidden Object Scenes but they are very well done with requirements such as locating objects that match silhouettes and there is a magnifying glass located in the middle of the inventory bar that will enlarge the shapes and you can use arrows to switch to a different silhouette. There are a ton of mini games besides the spell games, one I enjoyed playing was using arrows to flip coins that are gold on one side and silver on the other with the goal being to flip all coins to the gold by using blocks to keep some coins from flipping over. The Collector's Edition has OST and Video, Concept Art, Hidden Runes, Gallery, Mini Games and HOP's, Lost Pages, 22 Achievements, a Bonus Game, a built in Strategy Guide and a Final Quiz. This is a top notch game that you're going to want to buy, so hurry up and give this spellbinding game a try, enjoy! September 13, 2014
A Great game at last! Wow! Not sure if this is a new developer or not but name not familiar to me. I played in Expert mode as I don't like to have my hand held and review is based on that mode of play. The game takes place in two realms and you have to find stones that activate portals through to the shadow realms where actions also effect your realm. I found the sound and graphics to be good and the storyline also was OK. The concept is hidden object and they have tried to make the hidden object scenes interesting and on the whole they have succeeded. There are some twists in that you have to find runes to activate a spell book and spells can be used throughout the game. The mini games are different to the norm and I found them enjoyable. Demo was 90 minutes and I had 19 minutes left. A definite buy for me. September 13, 2014
We have a winner!! Thank you, BFG! I quit this game just long enough to run to the website, snatch it up, and spread the word: this game is outstanding! A beautifullly-rendered world with an interesting and novel storyline, logical progression of play, lots of opportunities to use spells, clever puzzles AND no Helpie Helperton "We'll play the game for you, just click where we tell you" non-sense. Must run now, there are Easter egg surprises in this game waiting to be found. ^_^ September 13, 2014
Defeat Vulture and save your town! The best part of this game is finding runes to activate spells in your mother's spellbook. I had the best time fixing things with Restora, and either growing plants or destroying vines with the second spell I learned! So you are Veronica, 25 year-old daughter of your magician mother, who has been banished to the shadow kingdom by Vulture, the Master of Shadows. Evidently, now that you are 25, you gain magic powers through the use of your mother's spellbook. Sometimes your mother's lips move when she speaks, and sometimes not -- a bit annoying but it happens randomly with all the characters. Another cool thing about this game is the ability to move in and out of the "Shadow Realm" after finding various colored pyramids to open a portal. Here you get to talk to the good guys who help you, as well as meet Vulture himself right as the demo ends. He is very creepy with red eyes - and his lips move as he tells you he will kill you and destroy your town! The HOPs are interesting, in that they have a "magnifier" that helps you see what you are looking for. All of them are very interactive, and you even get to use your spells as needed. The best mini-game has 3 different diorama that you place missing objects in to complete the scene. There are 22 achievements that are not just time and hint based. "Perform 2 acts of kindness" and "Brew 3 magic potions" are two of the achievements. The CE bling includes Lost Pages and Final Quiz, but both were unavailable in the demo. This is a fun game with many interesting touches. Ignore the voice-overs and enjoy! September 13, 2014

Shrouded Tales blew my mind, leaving me spellbound! This epic adventure has managed to captivate me from the start to the end. While the story of a lost mother in a magical fantasy land might not sound so intriguing, the way the story develops in this particular game is pretty interesting. By restoring and repairing the altars, the game allows you to switch between the real world and the Shadow Realm. Basically, there are two parallel worlds where actions in one world can affect the elements in the other. Apart from the realm-switching feature, Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land also includes some nice twists. The six different magical spells, for instance, they can be earned once you have collected all the missing colored glowing collectibles - they are extremely helpful during your adventure and you tend to seek their accompany very often. Also, the interactive map is beautifully designed and the hidden object scenes come with superb interface. In terms of the visuals and audio, Shrouded Tales is second to none. With its eye-catching artwork, enchanting special effects and spectacular sights; there was not a single moment of boredom when we were playing the game. The soundtracks are also very satisfying, they do not feel out of place or repetitive; at the same time, the voice overs are solid and easy to follow. In contrast to all those positive aspects, Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land is definitely not the game for those who seek for some challenges. The gameplay in Shrouded Tales is most of the time, straightforward; although it is a very busy game with lots to do, the tasks are very demanding. Moreover, the puzzles are unique, very fun and creative. No matter how easy the game might appear to you, let me assure you that Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land is not a short game. I completed the game in just a tiny bit over 8 hours, with an hour or so in the Bonus Chapter. Along with the predictable extras, the Collector's Edition also consists of several cool features such as the Lost Pages that are humorous to read and the Final Quiz which is a smart addition. This is indeed a spellbound game; from out-of-this-world visuals to a delightful gameplay, this game has it all. We have definitely enjoyed our time casting spells in Havenwick and cannot wait to return for some more goodness in the sequel! October 4, 2014
Spells and Spells I really enjoyed the game, lovely storyline and very interesting play, puzzles were okay. You learn your spells and use them often, you are there to save the day but do you ? This game kept you busy and searching for, which is the way a game should be, hint button did not take to long to reload and again if you love a good and beautiful visual and enjoy the magical games by all means buy this one, in fact I am playing it again as I truly found the game a full length CE September 14, 2014
Didn't want this game to end! :D Although the graphics aren't the usual crisp and clear, they were still defined enough to enjoy and was still a fabulous game to play! Loved all the spellcasting and using the spells in almost every area of the game. Not unique in the story but interesting and cohesive all the same. Really enjoyed playing this CE. My response was, 'FINALLY' a game to do stuff in......instead of just a 'seek and find all' adventure, which is what the last few CE's were like. It was hours of fun, could have been 5 or more, I lost track. Definitely a game I will be playing again. This game is quite different from Stranded Dreamscapes: The Prisoner adventure...so didn't recognize Friendly Cactus, the developer. I would like to see a less violent version of 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' for this platform of gaming. September 13, 2014
Are You Brave Enough to Enter the Shadow Realm??? I'm really not quite sure how to review this game as I had to stop playing the demo a few times (puppy having tummy troubles) so maybe it didn't flow right because of that. Still, I did play it eventually - lol - and I did love it! As a young girl, your mother was banished to the Shadow Realm and your city was placed under a dome (sounds like a t.v. show I know and love - hah!). Your character has now reached an age where her magic is maturing and she is destined to go find her mother, save her from the Shadow Realm and bring her city back into the light (whatever that means). The graphics are amazing - no over zealous colors (devs kept their crayons away - thank you). Music was turned down so can't comment on that. Disappointed that lip syncing was in opening cut scene and then stopped throughout the rest of the game (should have given a lesser rating for that but I'm feeling generous today). As you move through the game play, you discover runes - can't miss them because they are like big, bright lights whenever you spot one - which in turn leads you to create various spells. Handy ones, too, such as "repair anything" and "rejuvenate/dispel greenery/plants, etc." I wouldn't mind having a few of those in my life - lol. You also move, quite frequently and, sometimes, dizzyingly (is that a word?), from real life to the Shadow Realm and back again. Sometimes, just for one little item - say, for instance, to recover the human remains. How'd you like to carry THAT around in your inventory????? 3 modes of difficulty (sorry, no "custom"), the hint button on "casual" recharges remarkably fast. No journal, but there is a Spellbook, once you find it. And, your inventory or completed spells is kept at the top, center of the screen. The HOGs were incredibly different. Nothing I've ever seen before - no lists, nor really silhouettes - not telling - play the demo to find out. Mini games weren't too difficult, some needed a little thought. Going by download time, and the map, this game appears to have ...... LENGTH! YAY! One of the major components in purchasing a CE. Also, bonus game. No collectibles or morphing objects as far as I can tell (bad DEVS, no donut). There is a section in "Extras" marked "Lost Pages" but not sure what that's all about .... yet. All in all, this game definitely gave me my personal "wow" factor - which makes it a definite purchase - definitely. Also, I found myself talking to the computer ("huh?", "what?" "seriously?" and "hmmm") so who wouldn't want a game that makes you do that? Hmmmm? Waiting for Bonus Punch Monday to use my coupons/credits and earn a free game after my "purchases" but can't wait to own this baby. Hey! Come on, jump the bandwagon and give this gem a try. Happy Gaming! September 14, 2014
