Defeat The Monsters One Word At a Time You will either love this clever word game or hate it. Give it at least 15 minutes before making up your mind because there are a lot of bonuses and and special tiles added with each level that make this game quite unique. The object of this game is to spell words from a group of letters to earn points that will allow the Grimm to use the reaper on the monsters and hopefully kill the monster while retaining your health (they have points as well, your points must be bigger than theirs) Some of the letters have cracked tiles which give you more points, citron tiles that when used restores 15% health, poison tiles that damages your health by 5% and even plague tiles which will spread quickly if not used in a word. Each letter is worth different points, bronze letters do the least damage and gold letters do the most damage. The final quest after killing the monsters is to reap the gems which will be used to purchase bonuses, the green gem is worth 1 point, blue 5, red 20, purple 50, and the yellow gem is worth 100 points. You can visit the store anytime to purchase a wide variety of helpful tools and even upgrade the letter tiles and the reaper scythe or get a Grimm assistant! Bonuses are unlocked at different levels such as, more health, more damage to the monster or you can purchase potions that restore 100% of your health and remove poisoned letters. There is an option to buy a monster health bar preview that shows you the damage the word will deal the monster before launching that word or you can see the health bar damage that the monster will inflict upon his next attack. You can equip yourself with books (knowledge is power) such as Duality that gives monsters 20% more damage for words with double letters (battle/bubble etc) Heel Me which gives you 3 healths for every letter E used, and Wealth which makes the monsters drop 4% more gems when defeated. My whole family was standing behind me throwing out available words as I was playing this game, it really is a fun game that anyone will enjoy if they can spell words. If you don't know if a word is real all you have to do is throw the spelled word up there and if it is indeed a legitimate word the reaper icon will light up to indicate that it is a valid word. There are Quests which are achievements that you must fulfil such as using 2 corner letters in a word, using 2 cracked letters or spelling a 6 letter word, give it a try, and enjoy! October 20, 2014
A Must-Buy for Word Gamers I'm still playing this game, and it's just as fun as when I started. Most word games start with a simple concept and get harder and harder until I quit out in disgust, but this one offers loads of level-ups to buy to keep you playing. There are new characters and weapons to try as you create words to battle 'monsters' - and I'll probably replay it as one of the other characters. The idea is simple - create words with the letters you're given, but those level-ups add dimensions such as double letters, using a Q, etc for extra points. Plus there are Wheel of Fortune-type mini games that are a lot of fun. Total home-run for me - kudos to the designers for creating something new and fun. April 15, 2015
Finally Something Different I am enjoying this game. The goal is to battle monsters with words. You are able to change the look of the tiles, the weapons, and many more surprises. As well as buy several upgrades for each. There isn't much of a story line, but it is a word game so that didn't bother me. Each level has three different challenges and one bonus challenge which is really hard. You might have to buy many upgrades to pass the bonus rounds as I have not succeeded yet. But you are still able to advance to the next level after you complete one round. October 21, 2014
A TEN (10) Nothing like Bookworms, or the others... It is one of it's own, and you can build up points to use where needed... You can replay levels... Have yet to make it to the end (thank goodness), for I get bonked... Love it... Enjoy... October 20, 2014
BECOME A WORD WARRIOR I really enjoy this Letter Quest game. You don't need to be a genius to play this game but you should have at least a slightly above average vocabulary / spelling ability in order to play the game effectively. In a side-scrolling adventure style game your character ( A Grim Reaper type character who carries a scythe ) roams through various caverns and forests encountering monsters. Each time a monster appears your character will stop and will raise the weapon he is carrying. A grid of letters will appear and then you must form words by clicking on the letters. Based upon the length of the word you make and the letters you use..., you will do a certain amount of damage to the monster, and then the monster will retaliate doing a certain amount of damage to your character ( unless you kill the monster and then there will be no retaliation on that move ). And then you create another word , again, to do more damage to the monster and so on... until you finally kill it, or it kills you. There is no timer involved in these sequences, you can take as long as you want to look at the letters and form a word. ( there is an optional "timed" quest you can choose if you want ). As the game progresses the monsters get bigger and stronger and can cause more harm to your character. This is where the Role-Playing aspect of the game comes into play. The game is divided into multiple quest segments, and after each segment is successfully completed you are awarded a certain number of gems you can spend at the "Store" between quests. The store has around 50 different items you can purchase to help you on your quest. This includes different types of weapons that have stronger effects against monsters, spell books that have various effects such as giving you extra strength for damage against monsters if you use a certain number of letters, and skills upgrades such as making you a better fighter and better at dodging attacks, stronger defense. There are also potions you can buy to take with you to restore health as needed or to undo negative effects monsters cause to the letters on the game board. Also, anything you purchase at the store can be upgraded itself to have better effects. There are other things you can get at the store, such as an upgraded style to the tiles on the game board to make the game a little more fancy and elegant. And after a while you can swap your character for one other different character, a smaller demon girl ( looks like a girl, so I'm assuming it is ) at the store. I did this and found that the demon girl is actually a more effective character at withstanding attacks from the monsters. At any time you can go back and replay any of the segments you have already completed. Along with the main quest there are side-quests and challenges that you can choose to take to score extra gems. The fun entertaining graphics, the ability to upgrade your character's skills and equipment, the challenge of the word game itself, all come together to create a very addictive gameplay that I have been enjoying a lot. I highly recommend this game. October 11, 2015
Takes a little time to figure out, but worth it!! I really enjoyed this game very, very much and would love to see another storyline in the same series. It takes a little bit of effort to figure how to purchase the power-ups and the best strategy for how to use them, but I loved the battles with the monsters and the subsequent word-building. A really fun game and I wish there was more! January 24, 2016
Fun word game I really enjoy this game. It's cute and fun, but also challenging. I like the many options to customize your game, especially the way it lets you personalize power-ups. Find the time trials too difficult? You can buy things to increase your time available. Have trouble with the hangman style puzzles? You can add extra guesses! Once you finish the story, you can keep playing for more points or to complete all the quests, or just to beat your own scores. Or, you can try the Endless mode, where you literally just play until you die. So far I've made it up to 26 monsters, hoping to get past 30. The game also tracks all kinds of stats; you can see how many words of each possible length you've spelled, your best-scoring words, how much damage dealt and taken, etc. December 25, 2015
I love it For me this is very good game and I love it. March 7, 2016
Letter Quest: Remastered Another great word game to play I have already played this one October 5, 2015
A good word game It's not as good as Bookworm Adventures in graphics and music (the arcade music of this game is highly annoying after the first level), but the game play is almost exactly the same. Spell words from letters on a board, each letter has varying levels of power behind it to inflict damage against your enemies. This game has an advantage in that there are more exacting challenges within each level. This keeps it interesting. However, some of the challenges are more about the luck of the letters on your board than your skill at wordplay. Some challenges even want you to take a dive and lose health in order to reach a star - as a proud lexicon champ, this hurts! The story line eludes me. In one moment, you're asking your iphone for a pizza location, the next minute, you're in a haunted house and battling baddies with words. At least in bookworm adventures, there was a great storyline to follow. I'm using a credit on this because - yay! - it's not a cookie cutter HOG for once! October 20, 2014
