Surface: Alone in the Mist is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Elephant Games Equals Quality! Just got around to playing the Surface sequels. Can't believe I had so much fun with my 1st choice--Alone in the Mist. Good length, detailed artwork and computer graphics with a good storyline that was completely void of sometimes annoying adult characters--except for the Wishmaster! Enjoyed Carol's proficiency with the bow and arrow. Gave the game depth and something to look forward to rather than searching for a particular object. Utilize custom settings to prevent skips and hints, yet, like to hear or read conversations which, at times, are very entertaining. A happy, healthy and prosperous 2017 New Year to all. Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We can always depend on Elephant Games to make a winner! You are in charge of the way you play this game. The custom mode can be changed to 15 seconds for hints and skips allowing you to move on with the excitement of the game! Wish everyone would post the length of time it takes for hints and skips to load in a game!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surface: Alone in the Mist This has to be the best game Surface has ever produced. Sometimes I cannot even predict what will happen next. I admit the puzzles are fairly easy but the storyline is great. I absolutely loved it and actually stopped in the middle just to write this post. It really is one of the better games that Big Fish has made available to us. If you do not play any other Hidden Objects Games, at least play this one!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wooooo! Alone in the Mist! This is one of the best from Surface: in a while! They are all good but a few are really stellar. Usually brilliant, clever and artistically exciting, they keep getting even better! (this is actually the third game I am reviewing recently (from different developers) that I have to say they TOO are exceeding their status quo! Must be something in the air! The mini games and HOS have some interesting variety =. same story different day (always fun).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where Have All The Grown Ups Gone? Time to wake up Carol, it's your sweet sixteenth birthday! That horrible dream you had last night about an evil orphan was just the beginning of your nightmare. Allie's real, Allie's creepy, Allie's evil, and she has done something awful with all the grown ups of Rocksburg! Aren't you glad it's not your eighteenth birthday Carol Evans? Surface has done it again folks, and something tells me that Alone in the Mist has just scratched the surface of what's to come! After playing both editions, I have to urge you to spend a wee bit more on the Collector's Edition which have collectible Red and White Flowers in each scene. Each flower you collect helps to unlock Characters in the Secret Room, AND each Character will have a special favor to ask of you which sounds kinda creepy yet intriguing. (I'll have to think long and hard when it's Allie's turn) the CE also has Achievements to earn. Both editions have Plus Signs on some of the inventory items indicating the need for further interaction before the item can be used such as combining that item with another inventory item. The Hidden Object Scenes are a mixture of Listed items, Silhouetted Shape finds, and even finding items that match the sentence being spoken on a tape recorder. The Mini Games range from simple puzzles where you click on icons until twin pictures are identical, to more complicated puzzles such as swapping key icons within a group of pictures until all picture images make sense. I really enjoyed the game requiring you to spell out the word POLICE, but you have to figure out the correct order to key in the numbers as they scramble to different locations with each letter entered, and I enjoyed Spot the difference between two monitor screens and matching skeleton keys two at a time. The Collector's Edition has Achievements, a Secret Room, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Music, Screensavers, Collectible Red and White Flowers, Unlockable Characters, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Based on the full gm, here is what your missing...and whats in bonus CE This demo lists what happens BEYOND THE DEMO.... AND BEYOND BONUS PLAY.. Contains spoilers................. Here is the review I left for the CE Total gameplay for SE around 4.5 to 5hrs. Total gameplay for BONUS play took me 2 hrs. Total= around 6.5 to 7 hours for all gameplay, plus the secret room, I wasted 35 more minutes in trying to obtain enough stars for the 2nd SCREENSAVER. I never did unlock it, as you needed all the flowers and to replay the minigames & ho to collect stars for it. IF YOU WANT THAT 2ND SCREENSAVER, YOU MUST COLLECT ALL THE FLOWERS, SO GO BACK BEFORE SE ENDS! Because after the end of SE, there is no way to go back.... The "secret room" has 6 characters. Each Character asks you to re- play a ho game and a minigame. I only had enough flowers for 3 characters so I played and played until each character had 100% completion next to the stars. It wasn't enough, and it was frustrating. THE first SCREENSAVER is great though. Its of the area where the kid is in the tree in front of the orphanage, birds fly & wind whips....really cool, and the BEST thing is IT STAYS IN THE COMPUTER AFTER YOU REMOVE THE GAME!!! And I always "send to" D:\ and save the opened screensaver to a disc from your documents file, where the scr. saver is loaded to. Which is brilliant, because as I've mentioned before to developers.... It will be a reminder to me, EVERY time my screen sits idle....how much I loved this game and want to buy the next one....even if its a subliminal message! SE story ends great and doesn't rely on the bonus story for completion. Either, SE or CE is a buy, buy. BONUS PLAY: Story: You meet a student named Andy who meets the Wishmaster, and the game play is the 3 different wishes Andy makes. These are the areas of gameplay in bonus according to the map. I have specified which areas are old and you are replaying an area, or new which is new gameplay. 1.New-The park, 2.Old-In amusement park 3. new- Ferris Wheel, 4. old- street 5.old- café 6. old- parking lot 7. old- police station 8.old- park #outside orphanage again# 9.old- lobby 10.new- mysterious room 11.new- square 12.new- chessboard 13.new- way to exit HO 1 is the list type- my favorite- but with a twist; you match up 2 parts of an object. I loved it and can't believe all hop aren't designed this way! IN BONUS CONTINUE COLLECTING FLOWERS! and when nearing the end via the wtg make sure you have them all! I counted 4 ho scenes and 6 mini-games. THE FIRST MINIGAME IS A BLAST.... As you enter the park there is an 80's style video game console. This is one of the best mini-games I've played and I feel its worth the bonus play all by itself. You collect coins for this console and play an action video game with sounds etc. similar to Donkey Kong of old. WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS GAME, WOW, ADDICTING!! AND SOOOOOO FUN!!! A++++++++++ AND I THANK YOU! I have to admit, I actually liked the xtra bonus gameplay BETTER than the main game. It is worth the extra credit to go back and purchase the CE if you decide initially you only want the SE.... but remember you will be missing out!! DEAR ELEPHANT GAMES.............. First and foremost, you hear so many people complain, and you obviously put SO MUCH love, sweat and tears into these games in hopes to please us. I just wanted to take the time to let you know how great this game was-- and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a HUGE fan of SCREENSAVERS and 9 times out of 10 I will buy a game that has them. But next time....pretty please let us have all the screensavers up front #like in Grim Tales, bloody mary#. Also, we want to see BEHIND THE SCENES... so instead of the secret room or concept art.... please introduce yourselves to us, we big fishers see you as stars and want to know you! I am one that NEVER replays the ho or mini-gm in a CE because I just have way too many games I've purchased to play instead of re-doing ho & mini games I've already done....so keep in mind your target audience -- the members who buy and buy..... and I hope you will take these suggestions to heart. Also, the best storylines are the paranormal type, best I've seen is the reincarnation series, paranormal pursuit, & Mysteries of the mind-COMA... CAN YOU GIVE US MORE LIKE THAT?? I even loved the music in this game. I liked that it was a little spooky, you guys nailed it. Thank you again!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Allie is Beyond Creepy - Alone in the Mist - EXCELLENT I know there must be a time that every kid wishes their parents would just disappear but when it actually happens it is frightening. When Carol awakens on the morning of her sixteenth birthday she soon discovers that she is alone and her parents seemed to have vanished. This latest game in the Surface series comes to us from our mammoth friends who have created some really creepy games and this one is no exception as it definitely reminds me of a Grim Tales game from a few years ago – another series from this team. The graphics are excellent and, at least on my computer, are crisp and clear. The eerie sound effect are just perfect this game. Allie is certainly not someone I would choose to buddy up with on a scavenger hunt and the artists have captured her to perfection. The tools are the standard ones generally found with an interactive transporter type map. For just a brief time I thought I was going to acquire a pet helper but that turned out not to be the case. The HOPs are varied but none seemed to have any interaction required with other objects. During the demo the HOPs included a silhouette type, matching type and a standard list type. Although the first HOPs seemed cluttered, I didn’t have any difficulty spotting the items, which is one of the things that I like about games from this developer. The puzzles are very easy and minimal at best. I am hoping to find a more complicated Rube-Goldberg type puzzle later in the game but that didn’t happen. All in all the puzzles were fairly easy but still fun. I found the storyline to be very interesting and couldn’t wait to see how it all plays out so the game is an instant purchase for me. I want to know more about Allie – who she is and why she is the “demon” child that she appears to be in this game. The storyline actually seems to be a departure from the other games in this series so I am wondering why this one actually turned out to be a Surface game rather than a Grim Tales game. Maybe the reason will become apparent as I play through the game. Even though I really like this game and think it is excellent you might not agree with me. At any rate, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm so glad I listened to my gut and finally played this game! I'm going to keep my review brief since there will probably be few if anyone reading reviews on these older game, but for anyone who does, this game was fantastic!<P> This past week or so I've been playing a lot of older games since the newer games have left me cold or bored. I've played the newer Surface games but had never played the older ones so I started playing them 1 by 1. I really really enjoyed this game. It starts out a bit slow but then it picks up and you end up playing most of the game in a somewhat whimsical area, similar to an Alice in Wonderland type place. There is, of course, the evil child undertone but still done in a nice setting for the most part which made it so much more entertaining. It's not an overly long game I sat and played straight through in about 4 hours, I do tend to skip a lot of mini-games so that probably sped up my game play. Give it a try even if you just use a free game coupon, I really think you will enjoy it, I know I did!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from the adults are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is a custom level and an interactive map. you wake up on your 16th birthday and your parents are gone!!!! then your friend comes over and says all the adults have disappeared. you can't imagine what has happened but you go searching for them. the HO scenes are not crowded. good story line. you encounter other kids but no adults. one child is "other worldly" and the other kids say she rules now. these kids are associated with an orphanage and you just can't seem to understand any of it but keep going to find your parents. sequel.......i feel sure. this is just another one in the series
