Wonderful Game Review based on completed SE game with sound on, played on casual setting. I really enjoyed this game, I have played a few of the other Puppetshow games and personally I prefer this game, it feels like it has been freshened up. The game is a very good mix of adventure, HOGs & Puzzles & they are slightly different than normal. The storyline is very good and the theme follows the previous Puppetshow games. The visuals are stunning and I really enjoyed the audio track. The hint system works well, and the hint and skip recharge on casual very quickly. There is a map but I didn't use it. I like the edition of the case file, choosing where cards relating to different aspects of the case go. The diary is good but doesn't hold masses of detail. The only slightly negative aspects of the game in my opinion is that the game is somewhat shorter than standard (I completed the game in about 3 hours in one sitting), also the challenge level is quite low, but saying that I was playing on casual. There are three levels to choose from, casual being the easiest, then advanced and then hard. Overall I really enjoyed this game and would put it in my top 15% of games I have played, having played 400+ games. September 20, 2014
amazing game!! completely different from the standard! We have all been waiting for a different kind of game, well, here we have it! It is a completly new category of HOPA. You can even choose in the beginning whether you want to play it in classic or in steampunk mode! Never saw that before! It is the sixth game in this series, but the least you can say is that it evolves enourmously! The new game effects are really stunning! Graphics are beautiful. The evidence board is something new as well, and is a surprising feature. The way the HOS are handled are.... well... different! I still have to decide if I like them this way, but at least you can call them new! Music and soundeffects are good and fit the game. VOS are great, no lip-movement. The storyline is fantastic and i HAVE to know how this goes on! The full version is downloading now, that's why I'm keeping this short, I want to go play this game! At least give this game a try, you'll be surprised! Have fun! September 19, 2014
Cursed when the preview ended -- that doesn't happen often! One of the very few times I've ever cursed when the preview was over -- I was enjoying the steampunk atmosphere, the story was interesting, and the art was definitely up to the standards established in the earlier games of this series. I liked the way the HOP scenes were directly integrated into the flow of the game, and the music added much to the general atmosphere. Bought the game (standard version) and played the rest of it immediately, which almost never happens. I was not disappointed. Some of the "puzzles" depended on speed, not always that easy for those of us who left their ten-year-old-boy reaction times decades behind us, but in the end I did not find these impossible. The translation could occasionally use some tweaking, but that is such a minor point, and I do enjoy the occasional glimpses into the (generally) Russian underpinnings of all these games in any case. A few quibbles here and there, perhaps, but absolutely no real cause for complaint -- certainly not enough to take away a star. The action was very linear, with little backtracking or even exploring necessary (no need for a map at all, really), which did make for a very fast game, as did the fact that none of the puzzles were particularly difficult. From playing the preview to typing out this review, with a quick pause to grab a drink and a bag of pretzels, say about four hours. One could, I suppose, criticise the lack of real challenge, but sometimes one just wants to relax after a hard week at work. I must say I also appreciated not having to play female -- that can get rather tiresome. (Not specifying gender, or a choice of gender, is a desideratum. Hint to the programmers.) En fin, this game was worth it, certainly if you've played the previous games. (Note: the game stands on its own, since the first story arc had already ended; this entry into the series obviously is the start of a new one.) September 20, 2014
WOW! I Was Struck By Lightning!!!!! First, let me say that I didn't play any of the previous games in this series, however, my review IS based on the completion of this demo. You are in London in the late 1800's to help find missing girls. But, how? There are puppets everywhere - talking to you, stalking a little boy (kidnapped?!?!?! OH NO!) Are these girls alive or dead? Only time and playing this game will answer these questions and many more. There are 3 levels of difficulty (sorry, no "custom" - smile). There is a transportable map, but the way it's set up is a bit annoying so I didn't use it. There's also a diary that contains notes, character information and your tasks. An evidence folder - you will find cards that need to be placed in the appropriate place on the board. The hint button does take a bit of time to recharge but it will also transport you where you need to go. Nice alternative to the weird map. The HOGs (hidden object games) I played were varied. In one instance, I had to open flowers and flowers buds to reveal the items I needed. How fun! I LOVE flowers! But, the prizes I got weren't so keen - lol. Hmmm - HOG or mini game? Oh well, they were all fun - HOGs and mini games alike. The mini games were fun as well. Putting one of the posters together took some time (for me) but the sense of satisfaction I got when it FINALLY came together was worth every minute! (big congratulatory pat on the back for me!). The characters you meet are truly ... characters. A ship's captain, who while dangling by a rope in the air STILL holds onto his cigar - lol (I remember smoking (I quit some years ago - YAY ME() --- but yep, smokers are very protective of their "smokes" - lol). Also, a young boy who claims he knows "everyone" in town and insists he can help you. A fortune teller who puts you through your paces before she'll give you any information. There's a LOT of cut scenes. I don't know if this generous amount continues in the entire game. It can be a bit distracting. The voice overs were okay, but, I did notice the hands moved, the eyes blinked, dare I say I could see the chest move as the character breathed? But, no lip syncing? How hard would it have been to add moving lips? HUH? A definite "hmmm" moment. Maybe the employee in charge of lip movement was out on vacation or something. I saw characters from other games I've played (Maestro, for instance). And, when I did see them, it was almost an immediate purchase for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I know I'm probably in the minority. But, IMO, I believe those of us who DID NOT play the previous games will enjoy this as a stand-alone game. While those who are true diehard fans of the Puppet games will probably be more disappointed. So sad - too bad. I probably missed some things, but this game is a definite purchase for me. I hope this review encourages you at least try the demo. It's 90 minutes long and, while I DID take my good old time playing the demo, I had only 19 minutes left when it ended. Please help us find those missing girls - dead or alive. Happy Gaming! September 19, 2014
PuppetShow Games..... Any and All Are Great! I'm an old gamer and I have purchased every PuppetShow game that has been offered! If you love this particular style of gaming, then like me then you will see the levels of play are consistent. Easy or Hard it will be great fun! Sound and visuals are top notch quality. I play them as a casual first then a week or so later I try the Expert Mode! If you have never played Hidden Object games then these games are a great start for some relaxing fun! October 31, 2014
What Fun Based on the demo, I want to buy this game. Nice pace, nice to look at, somewhat easy puzzles but the HO are new and interesting. September 19, 2014
Lightening Struck! I really enjoyed this game, the HOGS were a little different from the usual type & the graphics were lovely. I've played all of the other puppet show games & this was just as good as those! September 25, 2014
LOVE all the Puppet games, HAD to have this one, bought everyone so far, missed the little head spider guy running around, but I have all of the series, great DIFFERENT challenges September 23, 2014
love this game even with flaws still loving the game series even this one with the flaws its beauty, graphics and even music the hop well integrated with game story the maps were very useful hate going one scene to another further the puzzles were fun and exemplary with game storyline . yeah I know sometimes the flaws of the game is what makes it more of a challenge . Good entry in Puppet Show line, but... Another good Puppet Show game. I particularly enjoy having choices in difficulty to accommodate others in the family who are more casual gamers. The graphics and music are top notch as usual. Some of the "acting" is a bit lame but that's a minor quibble. What was annoying, however, were the misspellings throughout the latter part of the game which indicates to me that the game was probably rushed into release in time for the holiday season. Not the best job from the company's quality control department this time around. However, I feel that overall it's another enjoyable Puppet Show game. December 25, 2014
