Hungry For Gems I beg to differ with the overall rating because this was a great game to play and it made a change to all the usual stuff that comes on the site May 27, 2015
Want something different? Fun little game. Looks somewhat like Zuma, but you don't shoot the marbles, the marbles shoot you. I loved the fact that I can either relax and just match the marbles or I can put a little bit of thought to it and complete levels by creating combos. I used the keyboard controls for playing because I found them to be more comfortable. Overall, the graphics are fine, the music is nice, and the gameplay is unique. Definitely worth a try! The Gnomes Are On Their Own Too frustrating of a game for me personally, but I cannot fault the game because of my inability to keep up with the pace. I love games that think outside the box, and this game has done just that. I highly recommend that you go into the options section first and adjust the mouse acceleration to slow down the rapid movement of the amulet. You can also choose to do an automatic rotation so you won't have to click and hold the mouse button the entire time. The object of this game took me a few tries to figure out, basically you rotate a stationary amulet located in the center, to "catch" flying gems of different colors. The amulet has an outer ring, a middle ring and an inner ring, you must rotate the amulet to catch the gems so that at least 4 gems of the same color are lined up along the outer ring. You will score more points if you can manage to set up combos so that matches are made on the middle or inner rings as well. Only three gems can fit into each section, if you catch a fourth gem in any section too many times, you will lose a life and have to start over. As you progress, there are more gem colors added, but there are rainbow gems that can match any color, and bonuses that destroy sections of gems with fireballs and even dynamite! If you are fast enough to use strategy, you can earn a higher score with combos, chains, multis, domino's, depths and lengths of gems. There are achievements to earn and you must locate a fragment in each cave in order to bring the spirits back to life. It's a really entertaining game, but I'm just not fast enough to keep up with it, enjoy! May 26, 2015
Nice game! This is a really fun and original game. It really engages all your attention! But while I enjoy it, I recommend it only for the players with good reaction :) May 27, 2015
Catch A Falling Gem Hi fishies! The gnomes need your help! They and the spirits of the caves have been turned into rocks. You are given an amulet in which to catch "flying gems" which will help you to free them. (At least, that's what the opening says.) GRAPHICS: 3.5 out of 5. Pretty. Nothing too small to see. Clear writing in the instructions and intro screen. SOUND: 3.5 out of 5. Nice music, quite relaxing. There are sliders to control music volume as well as sound effects in Options. GAMEPLAY: 3 out of 5. Somewhat Tetris-like. They give you instructions that are clear and concise when you get past the introduction. There is also a help button on the Main Menu in case you need to review. In the Options, you have extra controls for your mouse as well as a fullscreen mode toggle. Mouse action is smooth and fast, and there are some controls in the Options menu to help you set your mouse as you like for speed and rotation. Also, there are Achievements you can pick up along the way. FUN FACTOR: 3 out of 5. Challenging and looks like the speed will ramp up pretty quickly. You have to catch gems by rotating the amulet and matching colours. The longer the string, the higher your score. Not for me, but others will surely find the game exciting. OVERALL: 13 out of 20. Recommended for people who like action/puzzle games. There are two modes of play, the Trial version is unlocked after the normal game is done. Enjoy! :) May 26, 2015
What a pity When I saw the pictures and description I thought, oh cool, a Zenerchi type match3 game, what a nice change. But alas, the implementation is bad and the rotation of the ball/disk is very poorly executed. I tried it with all different settings, even with the keyboard cursors, but no go, it never rotated to where I wanted it or how I wanted it to. Great idea, but near unplayable and I am quite quick and accurate with a mouse or keyboard. Zenerchi is a good example of a game where this was executed beautifully, so it's possible even with a turning disk. Sigh, and here I thought for once something other than the ongoing IHO games. For years getting the daily BFG newsletter was something to look forward to, but at the moment it's depressing because there seems to be nothing else but IHOs. I suppose somebody is buying them and loving it ;) I for one am a bit tired of those and the ever same story lines and mechanics. Where is a decent time management or match3 game?? A last word on "Hungry for Gems", it's also not visually pleasing and rather boring, again, good idea, mediocre execution and let me not even mention the senseless bore of having to find some fragment of something in the scene - superfluous bells that don't add anything in my opinion and increase the tedious factor. Unfortunately only a good idea. May 26, 2015
