December 2015 was the Apple App Store’s biggest month yet for games sales. Revenue reached almost $1 billion (US), up 18% from November’s $847 million. This spike was of course spurred, at least in part, by the holiday rush to purchase new mobile devices, but these stats still show the increasing importance of mobile in the gaming market. In December there were 179 million downloads for the entire US games category (up 26 percent from November) and 614 million downloads worldwide (up from 510 million in the previous month).
Piano Tiles 2 (arcade) and Monument Valley (puzzle) hold the 1st and 3rd spots for sales both in the United States and worldwide. The second place game download for the U.S. was Cut the Rope 2 (puzzle), while the worldwide second place game was Rayman Adventures (adventure).
