Gaming has long been a gateway for mass adoption of new technology. Next up: gaming may lead the world to a future with virtual reality.
While the general public isn’t paying much attention to virtual reality devices—research by media services agency Horizon Media showed that 67% of consumers don’t know what VR is—gamers are amped. On VR-related internet posts, 93% of the discussion is around gaming.
Even though most people aren’t sure what VR is, when prompted, 81% said they think at least a quarter of people in the U.S. will own a VR device in the next five years. There seems to be a sense that virtual reality is the next big thing. Once again, gamers will be the ones leading the way.
