Author Program

Create a Lifeline Story

Greetings from 3 Minute Games, Headquarters of the Lifeline Universe! We’re excited to be embarking on this journey with you.

3 Minute Games is currently accepting submissions to identify authors for new gamebook content (priority given to young adult fiction outside of the science fiction genre) to be published alongside the work of other talented authors and storytellers.

Our standard gamebook is roughly 10-12 chapters long, and if accepted, we’ll provide all the details you need to get writing. Lifeline games should be built around choices that will resonate with players emotionally. Think trust and betrayal, life and death, short vs. long term reward. Send us a sample of what you can do and we’ll use that to evaluate whether we move forward!

Revenue Opportunities:

We take tremendous pride in establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with our partners. Our partners’ success directly correlates to our own success. Whether it turns into a full-time authoring job or a side gig / passion, it's a great opportunity!

I’m Excited! How Do I Get Started?

We are thrilled that you have compelling stories to share with the world! Here's some guidance and the steps to take to see if you have a place as an author in the Lifeline Universe.

What we are looking for:

  • Writing Sample
    • Please provide us with a writing sample using Twine 2 of a branching story including at least one significant player decision (and subsequent results).
    • How you structure this is up to you, so long as the decision paths are clear. Keep in mind that all text must be broken into lines no longer than 140 characters including spaces and punctuation, but that the total length of the writing sample should be 2-3 full pages.
    • When your writing sample is finished, click on "Publish to File" in Twine to download it as an .html file.
  • Story Pitch
    • Along with the writing sample, include up to 3 brief story pitches. Sell us on the world you’d like to create for the Lifeline Universe.
  • Decision Tree / Story Map (Optional)
    • Additionally, it's optional but strongly encouraged to provide a Decision Tree / Story Map to outline the contents of the first chapter of your gamebook idea. This will help us visualize the main story paths, the main endings, and how the choices are flowing.
    • An example of this is below in Exhibit B. If you have 2013+ Excel, the tool called Visio would be ideal. Otherwise a simple Microsoft Word or comparable document would do the trick.
Send your Writing Sample (.html), your Story Pitch (.doc, .docx, or .pdf), and Decision Tree Story Map (optional) to: LifelineSubmission@Bigfishgames.com

    Please Include Your:

    • Full Name
    • Contact Information
    • Any links to previous work and/or a description of your prior experience with creating interactive fiction

Anything you submit must be 100% made by you and not include anything else from existing artwork, people, builds, brands, or other protected material, or include profanity or lewd material. By submitting your writing sample you agree to our terms and conditions, provided in Exhibit A.

What Happens Next?

  • We will review all submissions. Please be patient! We want to give these works the reading time they deserve. We may not be able to provide individualized feedback on each submission.
  • If we wish to pursue a business opportunity with you, we will offer you terms and conditions for a partnership.
