Fear for Sale: The House on Black River is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad. My rating is based on playing the entire SE. It meets most of my requirements. It is between 4 and 5 stars, but for 5 stars it should have been longer and without helping texts. - Story: You’re a journalist from the Fear to Sale Magazine. A colleague disappeared. Go to Black River Ranch and investigate what has happened to Jack. It is a kind of a ghost story, quite exciting and consistent. - Difficulty can be customized only slightly. Tutorial, sparkles, map issues, glitter, penalty and hint / skip recharge (very short). - Graphics: nicely done. Detailed. State of the art. - Animation: pretty good. - Music: nice, especially during the HO’S was it enchanting. - Voice-overs: great dialogues. - Tools: you have an interactive map. - HO’s: Interesting HO’S, of course with different types e.g. description, silhouettes, matching pairs… slightly interactive. You can switch to a puzzle. - Mini games: well-crafted. Not too difficult, except the last one. That was for sure challenging. - Adventure part: Not bad. Interesting, tasks were logical, not too easy. - Specials: click and enjoy nice gimmicks along your journey. They are a little bit scary. Dislikes: - Too short, especially because I could have played a lot longer, but I needed only about 3 1/2 hours for completing. - I prefer playing w/o helping texts. They couldn’t been excluded. - Emma is the best. It was overdone. - And again, there was such a dull evil laugh.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nothing really new.... Hate to be the decenter here, but although the game moved along smoothly I became annoyed by the amount of HOS. I like a game with HOS but not so many that every twist and turn has one. Some were really easy and others were tedious. There is an option to put together a puzzle, however that wasn't something I was interested in. Mini games were plenty too and as some were fun, the others were same-o and got tiresome. Storyline was an over-used one so nothing new there. Voice overs were really bad and stilted and there was a lot of dialog, some you could skip, others you had to endure. Color, graphics and animations were good and the transporter map was a great help and efficient. I had custom set the skip and hint to refresh quickly which made the game move along more smoothly. I did "like" the game, but found it getting tedious toward the end and was OK with the length. Just an average game as was worth the $ spent...but nothing to write home about.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The Price of Fear The Fear For Sale series, in my experience, goes for story over looks, and I can appreciate that. You are once again journalist Emma Roberts, handed out the task of locating a colleague who went missing under strange circumstances at a remote house. Ghosts of course will play a part, and as with most of the games in this series, multiple twists are provided as you uncover the real goings on. That to me is what I felt this game lacked most. You meet four or five characters, most of which aren't relevant to the game, and then do the standard job of breaking down the house and the environment around it sorting through decently down HO scenes and average minigames. It moves along okay, and the conclusion makes sense, but I wasn't wowed by any particular factor. Voice acting is fine. Graphics are good but nothing special, and to me took a step back from other games in this series. Music was good. There is unquestionably a very good game lurking here. But it never came to the forefront for me. Exciting enough and worth a try. Not necessarily a buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This game is so-so This game is good with graphics, but I am not impressed. I looked for a deeper concept, like Eipix games, but it just is not there. I will play it because I bought it, but I am disappointed in the game, itself.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not much of a challenge Even on the 'hard' difficulty level this game did not present me with much of a challenge. Finding items and navigating the game, HOPS and other puzzles are far too easy. The game play generally made sense but it did have a few scenes with a poor connection between items and next steps. It was not as good as previous games in the Fear for Sale series.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good game while it lasted Game has locked up on my when I got to the photo album in the first chapter. Well would have been a good game but nothing seems to work. Yes I have cleaned my computer etc. but nothing works. Hopefully will not happen to anyone else.
