Mystery of the Ancients: Mud Water Creek is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE WRATH OF A WOMAN SCORNED Arlene is torn between marrying Bob or continuing to study magic under the town psychic. She seems to have made the wrong choice, or maybe the choice was made for her. Years later, with Bob getting ready to marry Sarah, Arlene returns to take vengeance on everyone. You and your paranormal abilities are here to save the day. This is a good, strong HOG with great graphics and lots of variations in minigames and HOS. I played the demo at the easiest level, so there was an interactive map to move between locations as well as to see where within a location action needed to be taken. The 4 levels of difficulty, including a custom level, make it able for you to set up the game to be exactly how you want to play. My only complaint was it suffered a little with too much back and forth. For instance, you need a screwdriver in the basement of the house. You find it 3 or 4 scenes back at the dock. Too much of that ruins a game for me, but I only noticed it in the extreme this one time. Since there is a CE of this game, I will skip this SE for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO MOVE ON After your success solving several paranormal event cases you seem to have a great reputation so it comes as no surprise when you receive a letter from Bob Price asking for your help to find out why there are so many unusual things happening at his estate. It seems like the Bob’s ex-love, Arlene, is not the least bit happy that he seems to have quickly forgotten about her and moved on to a new woman in his life. Things in Bob’s life are going from bad to worse as Arlene doesn’t understand why Bob has so quickly moved onto someone new and she is pitching a fit that would make a two-year old proud. Will you be able to step in and soothe this unhappy spirit and make things better for the inhabitants of Mud Water Creek. The game offers the custom mode of gameplay that I am happy to see more devs offering in their games. Although there are not too many settings to fiddle with, you can still set the hint and skip times as well as get rid of the dreaded tutorial. You have a map that you acquire early in the game as well as a special token that is provided by a mysterious benefactor. The token is what some call a gimmick as you must first play a mini-game each time you need to use it. The HOPS and the mini-games are very good and I found them to be quite enjoyable. Sometimes the HOPS were a bit different and fall into the category of a mini-HOP since you only need to find a certain number of a specific item to complete the scenes. The mini-games are not difficult but I had to fiddle a bit with the one to rebuild the bridge – a puzzle I loved. I purchased the CE and it was much better than I expected. The gameplay had some challenge for me and I did need to think about what to do since all things were not glaringly obvious. All in all, Mud Water Creek is a good game even though it may not one of the best this year. The one thing that put me off is artistic rendering of the scorned woman who is To all of you who loved the previous Mysteries of the Ancients games, I hope this one will be just as terrific. As always, please try the demo to see if Mud Water Creek is a game you will enjoy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from THE PRICE IS RIGHT FOR ARLENE It's been several years since Bob Price proposed to his girlfriend Arlene who felt the need to consult the spirits to give her guidance before giving him an answer. Bob never saw or heard from Arlene again, so popping the question to Sarah wasn't an easy thing for Bob to do. Bob wanted everything perfect this time, a romantic boat ride with Sarah to set the mood, and a little courage was all it took, (well that and an expensive necklace) Unlike Arlene, Sarah doesn't need spirits to consult to know she wants to spend the rest of her life as Mrs. Price. Unfortunately, Bob and Sarah's bliss doesn't last long because..................SHE'S BACK, and she's not happy! The storyline is a bit cheesy, and certainly isn't a new plot, but the graphics are fantastic and the game is entertaining enough to overlook the "been there, done that" factor. You will receive an Amulet that seems to annoy the spirits more than anything else, and each time it's used, you will play a click and drag Match 3 type game where you make matches of each icon shown with specific amounts for each token, within a specific number of moves. In the Collector's Edition, there are 25 Hidden Bats, which are rather large in size, and there are 9 Hidden Character Figurines that are hidden much better than the Bats. There are also the usual Achievements to earn including an Achievement for answering a few easy questions about the game itself as you progress. The Hidden Object Scenes aren't bad, but not very creative in my opinion. Most are Multiple Finds, or Fragment Finds, but I did enjoy the Interactive List Find where you had to click on items that matched the list as the item were floating down a stream at a fairly fast clip. The Mini Games are very doable, some were way too easy, but most offer a good variety. The following are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo: 1) Pull all rings open by selecting them in the correct order. 2) Arrange boards on a grid so that all boards fit without overlapping. 3) Find Objects shown at the bottom of each page in a storybook. 4) Rearrange the parts so each doll is in front of the appropriate scene. 5) Swap the tokens so each one is hanging from its matching pattern. The Collector's Edition has 6 Music Soundtracks, 18 Wallpapers, 24 Concept Art pictures, Videos, 9 Character Figurines, 25 Hidden Bats, Jigsaw Puzzle to assemble, Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just Average This game is enjoyable to play, with an average level of challenge. The graphics are clear and concise, but this has the disadvantage of making the hidden object games somewhat easy to solve. I can't comment on the music, because I don't care to listen to the music of any game - to repetitive and it becomes annoying. Solving the clues throughout the game makes sense-nothing too bizarre that it takes someone with a muddled mind to solve. One thing that this game should have offered was the option to mute voices. The voice overs are atrocious! Bad theatre all the way. I don't know why developers use people who have no "acting" ability whatsoever. It just makes the whole thing sound rather cheesy. But a good effort nonetheless.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from . Three and a half hours of play time. I would have liked it to lasted a little longer and it would have if it were a little more difficult. Super easy game, very little thinking in the game. 2016

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sweet but Short Tried the CE demo first and thought it was ok but not extrodinary so i purchased the SE version which i just finished playing. What I enjoyed : * Graphics are quite nice * Variety of interesting scenes * Story line, though nothing special, is ok. * HOGs, for the most part, were rather divers and creative What i did not like . * Game much, much to short, * Repitition of goals... finding the beads...all in different areas but nevertheless not really earth shattering creativity in the plot. * Repitition of mini-games : To defeat the characters cursed by evil (so as to retreave the "beads"), one must use the magic token. This action brings on a mini-game of sorts... "connect 3 or more". Over and over, one must replay the same "puzzle" (with little to no variation) throughout the game. I feel that this type of filler puzzle is very disappointing (no real challenge) and even quite annoying. It is also ,for me, one solid reason not to invest in a CE. If a game has this type of repetitious "filler", I feel that its boring activity.... and not what i'm looking for in a good game. So, all in all the game was ok but nothing special (except for the graphics and some of the HOGs.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from SOMEBODY PLEASE SILENCE THE BANSHEE! Purchased CE and left glowing review. Not sure why as in playing Mud Water Creek, I question myself. Can admit my mistake. Will play for another hour or so to give a chance. The banshee, witch or whatever's incessant screaming is positively nerve wracking. There are very, very few games that have sounds I dislike. This is one. Story is disjointed. Also, water pouring out everywhere reminds me of another game as well which made no sense. Another reviewer aptly noted the occult rituals within. Would be great if BFG would apply occult notices to unwary gamers. Call me superstitious. Developers are one of my favorites, though and I still look forward to more of their games. Enjoy! -Mama Mia-

Rated 2 out of 5 by from some may like it I got this when it was on sale because I had played the demo and though some imagery gave me pause I bought it anyway. The story than goes into the occult side really quick. I really dont mind a few ghosts but doing rituals and spells is not what I consider fun . I uninstalled it and will consider it just a waste of money. I liked the other game in this series but this one just went off the deep end into a lot of occult stuff I would rather avoid
