Beyond: Star Descendant Collector's Edition is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from beyond what? I love sci fi and was hoping this game was going to be a favorite. It is if you are a child. This is a cute game; that is for sure. But for me, I want a more adult science fiction game and this is not it. I actually like this one a bit more than the first in the series but again, not purchase worthy. The little robot in a suitcase is cute; wish I had one of my own, but...???

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They made a really good Demo then just gave up!! The Previous Title in this series made it to my Yearly "Must Play" list and while it was going to take something really special to Best "Light Advent" this seemed to be making a worthy attempt. After completing the Demo I immediately bought the CE. And I immediately regretted it!! I cannot stress enough that the Demo is not representative of the finished product so I will base this review where the Demo left off. The good - While Graphics have never been a high priority for Mad Head Games they generally do well with what they have. The style for this is radically different from the previous title and they have gone for a Grimy Steampunk look very much like that of "Tales of Glass and Ink". This is a bit annoying at first but once you get used to it then it's OK. As with Light Advent there is also a strong soundtrack although it is strangely out of place for the darker, grittier scenery. They have also managed to secure the Voice Acting Talents of Kristen Price who is Famous for working with Artifex Mundi so this is naturally of the highest Quality. Sadly this is where the good points end. The Bad - What can I say? This really needed more time, actually a LOT more time. Firstly there is a noticeable reduction in Graphic Quality that is nothing to do with the change in style, just bad graphics. They have that HORRIBLE immersion breaking Thick Black Line that covers the Center of the screen and stays there for absolutely ages whenever you do something. The Story is just silly once the Demo finishes and mostly involves doing pointless stuff that do nothing to move the story along, very much like Thirteenth Skull. Worst of all though, in it's present state this game is PLAGUED with Bugs. I downloaded it to Three different units just to make sure and it is the same in every case. More often than not an area will not activate or an action will not perform forcing the player to use the Hint and Skip button which completely defeats the object of buying a collector's Edition. Why was this released in such an unfinished state? Sorry but in it's present form cannot recommend this as a Collectors Edition although I would almost recommend it as a SE if the Bugs are fixed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow, slow, slow. Based on the demo only: That pretty much sums-up the pace of most everything I've done in this game so far. As an example, there's a point where you use a tongs to remove a cover, for the purpose of getting at whatever's underneath it. You select the tongs from inventory, use them to remove the cover...& the tongs return to inventory. You select the tongs again, retrieve item number one...& the tongs return to inventory again, requiring you to select them a third time to retrieve a second item. Even the most mundane tasks, such as using a key to open a car door, are completed in a manner that gives them more time & attention they merit; yet even so, I completed the demo in just under an hour, w/o skipping anything, including finding the collectibles, which suggests that this game may be on the shorter side. The graphics are excellent, but unfortunately, that's the only aspect of the demo that rated high marks in my book. There's an over-abundance of chatter that you can't skip through, which is a big negative to me where replaying the game is concerned. The mini-games, with one exception, were too easy to be entertaining to me, & I'm a casual gamer who only rates herself as being at the intermediate level (also, there's already been one w/ something annoyingly distracting front & center again, just as in the last game I played by these folks). The HO scenes suffered from a lack of creativity, which I've found to be the case overall w/ this dev, so no points awarded there. I'll forgive a lot in a game, so long as there's some aspect of it (aside from the graphics) that makes a really good impression on me, whether it's a good assortment of mini-games, creative & enjoyable HO scenes, a good story w/ interesting characters, or whatever...this demo just didn't stand out in any of those areas to me. Add to that the unnecessary slowness of the pace overall, & I'm no go for launch on this one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lost in Space and Lost my Mind I hesitated downloading the demo as it didn't look like one I'd be interested in, but thought maybe I'd be surprised. Well, the only thing that surprised me was it was worse than I thought it would be. It was not fun, had to do a puzzle of some kind every time you turned around; in the 30 + minutes I played, I think there was 1 HO game that was so simple a child could do it. The graphics were nice, but the color was so muted, it added nothing to the experience. Challenge was way too boring, nothing new, and definitely nothing challenging, just very uneventful. The story is similar to others, Mother needs to rescue child from bad people, but nothing wrong with redoing a theme as long as you make it exciting and beautiful. I almost didn't leave a review, but then decided I wanted to voice my opinion in hopes that developers don't start down the path of outer space and menotomy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from How did this get 4 stars? Hands down, one of the worst CE games I've ever purchased. There was so many cutaway scenes that you to try to skip your way through to move on in the game that I was completely frustrated after a while. I couldn't even finish it because I was so tired of how slowly the game progressed. I found the info on the puzzles so vague at times that, had it not been for the instructions in the SG, I never would have figured out what I was supposed to be doing. I have never written a really bad review on any BF game before but this game was just a complete waste of money in my opinion. Kudos to all the Fishies who have enjoyed this game. You have a lot more patience than I do.
