The Christmas Spirit: Trouble in Oz Collector's Edition is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 42.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from That's more like it! Well, it seems that the recent sale of BFG to Aristocrat Entertainment is already having good results and I am giving this a rare Five Stars because new companies like this need our support. I'll level with you fishies, if this game had not come out I would have cancelled my subscription at the end of the year as I have become so disillusioned with all the poor quality "Doom and Gloom" cookie cutter product that has come out since Paul Thelan left the company. In fact I only bought Two games this year....and the other one was Chicken Invaders!! So yes this is a satisfying Old School type game that feels and plays like the glory days of a few years ago. Having said that it is not without it's problems, and it is clearly a new company Learning the trade as there are some ropy production issues (the cut-scene animations are, well, not very good) and a few bugs that need a patch. However this is a well crafted and charming story with a real Christmas feel and a well balanced progression that makes you want to turn the page. Sure it gets bogged down towards the middle somewhat but that in no way makes it a deal breaker and on the whole this is an excellent product so well done to them as an introductory offering from this company, I will definitely be watching this space for more. Now if we could only get Adrian Woods back on the team that would be really awesome.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delightful addition to a classic story holiday style! Completed CE: I was hesitant at first to buy this but I'm glad I did. I found another Christmas series to add to my holiday list for next year. I hope next year Domini turns a classic story into a delightful holiday treat! Return to Oz as Dorothy. Help her friends as you search for the missing messenger, find out why Mombi is angry and why the goblins are on the march to take all the Christmas things. Visit beautiful holiday themed scenes, solve a variety of puzzles and have loads of fun in this wonderful game Domini did an excellent job of putting a new spin on a classic story. I recommend this game for the whole family for loads of holiday fun!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kudos to Domini, wonderful game, thank you for including the helper This is a very beautiful, sparkling and enjoyable game. No flaws; mini-games are fun; good music. It has everything we enjoy; especially clicking on items that respond when you are not expecting that to happen. Also, including a cute helper (who, by the way, does NOT consistently make noise throughout the game). The only time the helper makes any noise is to bark to let you know he can be used, which is what you would expect the dog to do in the real world. Until I played the game, I thought the complaints meant that the helper made constant noises for the entire game, which is not the case. Other reviewers need to keep in mind that not everyone dislikes helpers; some people enjoy them in a game. Maybe they could consider less complaints regarding helpers when writing a review. Once again, thank you developers for keeping helpers in the games for those of us who like them. We appreciate all the hard work you put into your games, Domini. May everyone have a Blessed Christmas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Along the yellow brick road to a festive Christmas... I give this a 4.5 - An imaginative offering from Domini. Graphics were colorful and bright, but though the music was festive, it wasn't Christmas music (perhaps my one true complaint). Also, there were times when there was no music at all (in Hidden Object scenes). The map was a bit hard to see the places to go at times, because it was so dazzling with color/images, the thin red exclamation points kind of blended in at times with all the color and I felt they should have stood out more (just something for devs to consider for future games)... the interaction of stationary objects made up for minor flaws mentioned above and all were delightful (clicking on objects that are not part of actual gameplay) - heavy in the first few scenes, diminishing in number toward end of demo. Some of the interaction could be accomplished only once (snow falling off trees, or lights fizzling out, for instance) other times it could be repeated (i.e. -lighting a Christmas tree or wreath). Such fun, these little extra surprises, and one of my favorite parts of this game. :) I also like that they have an "easy"& hard" meter for mini games - if it's too hard, you can switch to "easy"- same for if it's too easy, to make it harder, and able to do it within game (not having to go change difficulty in menu). Nice feature to have. Emeralds collected in pop-ups buy ornaments to decorate tree at end - and the fireworks found in actual scenes can be set off, one at a time, in bonus, for a fun and festive Christmas blast. :) Also loved biting into and fully eating the cupcakes found scattered throughout the game - yummy! :) A fun holiday romp into Oz! Try the demo and see for yourself... And Merry Christmas!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOTE TO SCARECROW – BE SURE TO INVITE THE WITCH NEXT TIME. Your much loved friends from Oz have sent Clutch, the Emerald City’s gate keeper, to invite you to Oz’s inaugural Christmas celebration. Did you happen know that whenever someone leaves Oz and enters our world a star falls? Well, it does happen, and poor Clutch arrives with a crash right into your cornfield after his balloon is hit by a star. Thankfully, Clutch was not injured and delivers the invitation but before you can return to Oz there is a balloon to be repaired. Well, because we are all living in BFG land, what would a game be without a wicked witch? In this case the witch happens to be that Witch of the North who along with her pack of gremlins is bent on destroying Christmas. Hmmm, maybe things would have been better if someone had thought to send her an invitation to the celebration. Well that little detail must have slipped Scarecrow’s attention span and so now when you arrive in Oz, you must rush into damage control and work to save the Christmas celebration. What is there to say except that I love Christmas games? They are so colorful and vibrant (well at least most of the time) and generally bring out my inner child as I sit down to play for a few hours. In this game we have those pesky little gremlins that will do everything to destroy Christmas for those in Oz. Your tools include a map and yes, there is a helper. Toto has tagged along with Dorothy for this game and will help out in some situations. I generally find pet helpers to be okay in a game and as a dog lover I never seem to mind them as much as squawky birds but unfortunately Toto is not very well behaved and seems to make some sort of noise throughout the game. At first I thought there was a kitten stuck somewhere until I realized that the noise was coming from Toto who wanted my attention. I really like the new trend in games where WE can choose to have a helper or to play along without one. If there are helpers maybe the developers should at least train them a bit better and teach them to sit silently in our UI area until needed. There is really nothing different with the HOPS and puzzles in the game except that they are all related in one way or another to Christmas. I happened to enjoy the HOPS but think that the storybook scenes were very easy. If you prefer the CE version of a game this one includes Emeralds to collect that are hidden in each scene and will be used later in the bonus section. There are also Firecrackers and Book Pages scattered around Oz to find. I didn’t spot any morphing objects but I could have missed them. The other extras are standard fare although we can replay the HOPS and Puzzles. As I mentioned earlier, I love Christmas games and manage to collect most of them that are released each year. The Christmas Spirit Trouble in Oz is no exception. I found that I enjoyed the game right from the time that Clutch landed in my yard. There is nothing new or spectacular with the gameplay but that is okay with me. The only thing that I don’t care for in the game is the mix between using real characters and graphics. I much prefer the artistic graphics to the human actors. I always have found them distracting or awkward. Of course, this is only my preference and it isn’t enough to prevent me from enjoying the game. I know that I will enjoy the full game because I happen to love most games from this developer. Since we all have different taste in games, please try the demo to see if The Christmas Spirit Trouble in Oz is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this game.. Game was beautifully done, and got me into the Christmas spirit. Excellent graphics, and whilst Toto is annoying with the barks and whines when you need to use him, it didn't spoil the game. The HOPs were interesting and interactive and the puzzles gave you an 'easy' or 'hard' option. I skipped quite a few, as even on easy they were a bit tricky. Some puzzles a bit boring, but didn't spoil the enjoyment of the game. The bonus chapter (for once) was a good length and took over an hour to complete with puzzle skips. If you like Christmas games, you'll love this. Not enjoyed a game as much for a long while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Wizard of Oz Christmas Story Domini Games did a nice job with this game, During game play you get to collect Fireworks, to play in the extra section, book pages to tell their Wizard of Oz story. You also get to meet the Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman and the Cowardly Lion, and help them to achieve your goal so everyone can have a Happy and Merry Christmas. Many times throughout this game I felt like I was in Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz, playing the role of Dorothy, seeing all the characters along the way on the yellow brick road. I highly recommend this game, because it has a wonderful Christmas feeling with no scary scenes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't forget to invite the witch This is the perfect game to get you in the spirit of Xmas, a la Oz. 90% of the gameplay is logical and intuitive, but gets a little more ambiguous towards the end. The graphics are beautiful and a visual feast. All the usual characters from Oz are back, with the addition of the witch and some villainous munchkins.A few of the video clips are not as sharp as I would like, but most of the game has sharp and high def scenes and videos. The ending is abrupt and could have been better in my opinion. The storyline is easy to follow and in the spirit of Christmas. CE or SE? Definitely the CE is the way to go. Collectibles consist of finding 60 emeralds hidden throughout the main game AND bonus chapter, which allows you to buy hand blown xmas ornaments in the form of characters seen throughout the game, which decorate the xmas tree. There are also firework sparklers hidden throughout main story and bonus chapter, and you can set these fireworks off (they form images like butterflies, xmas stockings, Santa Claus, etc). This is one of the better collectibles IMO. Finally there are book pages scattered through the game, which form a mini book about certain characters encountered. Not so exciting, but it's there. There are also the usual wallpaper, concept art, replayable videos, HOPs and mini games, which don't excite me at all. This is a long game, and the Bonus chapter is separate from the main story, but is a nice chapter on Christmas in Oz.The mini games in the Bonus chapter are more vexing than in the main game, which are mostly easy. However, you do have option of playing Easy or Hard for all mini puzzles. And there is the Strategy Guide if you need help. This is a beautiful game that is easy to recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holiday Fun What an excellent game for the holidays. The storyline with Oz characters is unique for this time of year. I was pleasantly surprised and truly enjoyed playing it. Unlike a few others, I found the graphics in this game are great. I highly recommend it.
